We stayed in Chamberi, and it was the perfect mix. We mostly walked into the centre, 25 minutes, and it was a cheap Uber home when we got out of a play late.

Once again, wonderful advice and editing! One thing I want to mention (maybe you have covered this before) is not a place to stay but to visit in Madrid: The Museum of the Americas. Most people don't know about this nor is it much advertised. I think everyone (yes, I think as in my personal opinion) should visit, especially if one is from any area of "The Americas". Five floors of plunder and bizzare/humerous juxtaposition/curation. I spent 4 hours there. Background, I am from California and the Conquistador Missionary presence is all over the place here on the entire coast. It was amazing to see this and also see how incredible these guys were at hand measure and drawing pretty acurate cartography. Most people have no idea that they explored this entire side of the Pacific Rim, all the way up to Alaska (it's there in the museum). Love you guys!

Good to know that someone makes the effort to look at the 'not-all-negative' side of Spain's exploration & cultural legacy in The America's. I believe even in Spain very few people have visited that museum, neither from the ones that claim Spain's conquista was all positives (conservative parties), and even less from the side which are most self-critical about our past history with the original native people's over there (left).

We love Madrid. As New Yorkers, it always feels like home. One barrio that I've come to like is Pacifico. It is a bit off the beaten path, but not touristy at all and very quiet. We love to walk and are metro savvy, so it's easy to get around. Of course, one pro tip, if you are renting an apt, be sure it's not near the trash/recycling bins. The glass bins, when picked up make a lot of noise. Thanks for the video.

Amazing video! As one that have lived in many of these barrios for everything from a day to 9 months, and been in all them multiple times, over my a little more than 9 months living in Madrid, I would say that every single thing you said here was spot on!
after seeing this video, with a clean mind, just listening to what you said, I would choose to live in Chamberi, and in real life, that's what I did!
I would add a single thing though, that Chamberi is in fact walking distance to the center, especially if you're talking about the southern 1/3 specifically.
I lived close to quevedo station, and from there it's 35min walking to Puerta del Sol, accoirding to Google Maps, and I could do it in 27min, if I was in a hurry / late as usual.
But the city already starts in Malasaña, which is less than 15min walking away.
So especially after talking about walking 45min from the center of Salamanca. Then you could at least have mentioned the 35min walk to Sol, just to not make it sound like it was even further away.

Great video you two! It brought back so many happy memories of the many years I spent in Madrid! I spent most of time in Chamberi but my favorite barrio was La Latina where I cut my teeth learning the catering trade in a restaurant called El Malandrin on calle Cava Alta. I then opened my own Indian tapas restaurant" in Chueca and I also really love that barrio. I think you've chosen the best parts of Madrid and you've really captured the feel of the city. The thing I loved best about Madrid was that it is really two cities in one, day time and night time Madrid and it is without a doubt one the best cities in the world for night life. How about La Candela flamenco bar in Lavapies is that still going?I used to love the warm atmosphere there on cold winter nights, listening to brilliant flamenco! Te echo de menos Madrid, gracias!

Hello! First of all, thank you for all you're doing, it's very useful for us, tourists from abroad. :)
Second, I have an suggestion for you: Can you make a video dedicated to accessibility in Madrid (or other cities as well)? I am a wheelchair user and it would be very helpful if people like me would have an overview of which metro stops are accessible, how to book accessibility public transport tickets, which hotels are best equipped for people with disabilities, if there are any discounts in museums or other sites for people with reduced mobility, etc.
I know that this might not be the area that you're primarly focusing on, but maybe if there was somebody who can help you with such content, it would be very nice and helpful, indeed.
Keep up the good work, greetings from Slovakia. :)

Me astuto mucho. De hoteles, recomiendo tambien el Atlantico en la Gran Via. Me alojaba alli varias veces y mis sobrinas estuvieron alli tambien.

All wonderful places. One area not mentioned was Pacifico. Just south of Retiro, a quick walk to Centro and close to Atocha. Not touristy - a wonderful, working neighborhood. Good value restaurants and bars (shoutout to Micasita Buvette wine bar, Bodegas Casas), museums Panteón de España and the Fundación Real Fábrica de Tapices. The Metro line 1 gets you fast access into all of Centro (and even up to Chamartin train station if Atocha isn't your stop) and the Circulo does what it does best. My impression is that this barrio is a bit cooler and breezier (wind coming down the hill from Retiro), which might be great if you're here during the warm months (which might be anytime; January and February had even locals commenting on the crazy warmth).

This vid is a bit late for us, we were in Madrid last month, we stayed at the Hostal Central Palace with a room overlooking the royal palace, one of the best outlooks ever.

I just got back from Spain and I stayed at Latroupe Prado near Atocha. The location was really ideal for being so close to the station. It was still close to alot of attractions just to the north. I made a youtube video showing my experience staying and walking from the Hostel!!

I lived in Lavapiés from mid 2014 to mid 2015, never felt any danger. If you don't already know this, nobody messes with the police in Spain. They are tough. Also, El Corte Inglés refers to English (cut) fashion; La Corte Inglés would then refer to the English Royal Court.

We always stay at Hotel Preciados(steps away from Santo Domingo metro) which has the fabulous Cafe Varela. It's not the cheapest and we stay there in part because of the location and because hubby insists on staying there when we're in Madrid. And for the GREAT customer service all around!! The last time we were there they had a fantastic breakfast buffet in the restaurant.

As usual a great, informative video. However you didn't mention La Prosperidad. It's where I am from. I know it's a administrative area, but is it a good area to visit nowadays.

During one of my visits to Madrid (2018), I stayed at the Marriott AC Avenida de America in the adjacent La Guindarela neighborhood. Loved walking around Prosperidad. Great older buildings. It felt like being a local in a bygone era.

Does the season matter in your recommendations? We've visited Madrid before, but this will be our first time in December. We've seen all the major tourist things (museums, palace, etc). Mostly just looking for Christmas light displays, walkable neighborhoods and parks, and a more relaxing (car-free) few days. What do you think?

Agree with the Chamberi recommendations. Was there in April/May. Fabulous neighbourhood, fabulous food, fabulous people. No offence but I find Lavapies downright scary. Was there a few years ago and I felt very unsafe. And during the day. Sorry.

A lot of people watch videos with subtitles for a variety of reasons, especially on a semi dual language channel I think its important to get them right. @3:13 the subtitles are " it's a fun start to get your ( speaks Spanish) ". I would say this channel generally does well, just an obvious error there.
