  • One in a series of short films featuring guest presenter - the acclaimed British Historian and author Neil Barber. In this film WW2TV looks at the parachute and glider landings onto DZ N near Ranville and the actions of the 3rd Parachute Brigade at Le Mesnil crossroads located by the Bois de Bavant.
Neil is without question THE authority on British Airborne and Commando actions in Normandy and we encourage all of our viewers to purchase copies of his marvelous books. For further information about the battles described in this film please read Neil's books. His excellent website can be found here pegasus-bridge.co.uk/.

Thank you for posting this. My father was one of the 13th Battalion who cleared the Rommel’s asparagus with the Engineers.

My grandad was in the 6th airborne division is there a way I can find out if he was there?????? He died when I was 6 and my Nan would never talk about it because she thinks that’s what killed him because he smoke cigars when he was in the war he later died from lung cancer and my Nan through all his army photos, uniform, and most paperwork away once he passed away I would love to find out what he did for us???????? 💙

You'll have to apply for his service records through the MOD. Other than that you can hope his name appears in one of the many books on the Division

Neil Barber is excellent and a good friend, but so too is James Holland. Calling his books nonsense is nonsense

@@WW2TV I didn’t like Holland’s Normandy doc at all, made out that veterans who saw a tiger tank were liars

Most Normandy veterans who thought they saw a Tiger were mistaken. Barely 150 of them in the campaign, and often with up to a third broken down. Most Tigers identified by veterans were Mk IVs

@@WW2TV I find this revisionist - German sources have disputed those numbers . You also wouldn’t ‘mistake’ a Tiger from a Panzer so you are saying the same thing as Holland

      What German sources?
As for Tiger Fear. It was absolutely a real , misidentfication of Axis AFVs was incredibly common. So I agree with James because that's what the overwhelming evidence suggests. There are literally hundreds of oral histories by DUKE veterans talking about sering Tiger Tanks where we know they had to have been Stugs or Mk IVs.
BTW a Tiger is also a Panzer
