Thankyou for this video. My grandfather was Lt-Colonel John Hugh Warwick Pengelly - 2nd in charge of D company 12th Devonshire Regiment. This is fascinating to imagine my own grandfather was a wounded surviving hero of this incredible part of history.

My Grandad was a member of the 9th Parachute Battalion 'A company' great to watch a video detailing the events of D Day onwards

My father was also in 12 bn 6th Airbourne (Yorkshire Reg). He survived DDay but was wounded 10 days after the drop and invalided home only to rejoin for later Battle of the Bulge (Ardennnes) and Crossing of the Rhine. I believe he must have been in the 12th bn attack on Breville although in the very few converstaions he was willing to have with me I cant remember it being mentioned. I would love to know more. I was atleast forunate enough to vsisit Cafe Gondree with him in `91 where he pointed himself out in the bn group picture ... I think it was one the proudest moments of my life. RIP Coporal Michael Hewetson

My Grandpa fought at Breville. He was in the 12th Battalion (Airborne) Devonshire Regiment and was in the company that took the village. My Dad still has a postcard of the church my Grandpa brought home. On the back of it my Grandpa recorded the (high) casualties in his platoon. My Grandpa survived and went on to fight in Belgium and Holland.

Hello! My grandfather was in the same Regiment. My grandfather is Lt-Colonel John Hugh Warwick Pengelly. According to records he was wounded. How magnificent that the internet can bring us together to celebrate our Ancestry.

My Dad was 12th Parachute Battalion, he was at Breville. For many years he wouldn't talk about it, then in his final years he opened up and told me about what he went through, not long before he died after a long fight with Cancer.
Much of what he said was told in secret between Father and Son, but I have to say, I am humbled and honoured to have been his Son..

Any idea if Seaforth Highlanders 5th Bn were involved in this? Trying to track down what happened to a family member that died on 16 June.
