Drove my E30 325is until 414000 miles and then replaced it with the E36 318ti . Thoroughly enjoy it and the practicality of the hatchback. Been my daily driver for the last 4 years.
Great video! I am daily driving my 323ti for 7 years now and enjoy every aspect of it. The balance of practicality and sheer driving pleasure is awesome!
Very nice, the 323tis are quite difficult to come by these days. The E36/5 really offers a great package, especially with the M52B25 inline-6 like yours. I think it is an underrated BMW model.
I'm on my second because I regretted selling the first. Now daily driving a 1998 318ti 5 speed M Sport in Morea Teal Green. Fantastic peppy little car! Very hard to find these days under 100,000 miles with a manual transmission. Great video, a little bass-boomy on the audio.
Very nice, that is a great spec. it is definitely an underrated BMW model that is likely to become even more appreciated in the future. You are right, low mileage examples in good shape are becoming increasingly more scarce - many have had neglectful owners over the years and the fact that it has been an affordable BMW model did not help either. Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video and I appreciate the feedback! I have been experimenting with the microphone settings in my videos, but I will make sure to lower the bass from now on. I hope that your E36 Compact will treat you well for many years to come!
@@Auto_Lore The only reason I know this is because I had to repair the front end of my E36 sedan after the previous owner drifted it into something. I love these informational videos and they're useful since I'm looking at a Compact for my girlfriend.
@@qers I am sorry to hear that, I hope the front end repair turned out well - many of the E36s are driven quite recklessly, unfortunately. I am happy to hear that the video was useful for you, comments like yours motivate me to make more of this content in the future!
Thank you for the kind words and for watching, I'm glad you liked it! This format is still new to me and a bit experimental, so I really appreciate the positive feedback.
I've had a -99 316i compact for three years or so now. 310k kilometers on it. The body is still in great shape. Such a fun car in the winter... The biggest downside is the amount of shock absorbers, rods, links and assorted suspension parts this car eats through. Part of it is because of our horrible roads, but still it's more than what my previous cars consumed. Naturally, it doesn't help when one hits the bumps sideways.
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you enjoyed the video! You are right that the upgraded 318ti E36 Compact (model years 1995-1998) received the 1.9 L M44 engine, so it should definitely have been mentioned in the video - an oversight on my part. Thank you for pointing this out!
I put a lowered and stiffened suspension on my 95. Also new control arms which are needed at about 100K. Very nice handling car. Not as much fun as my Z3 M roadster, but close.
Very nice, I definitely agree with you. Although it is not the most powerful nor fastest in a straight line, it is still engaging to drive and does not feel sluggish. Thank you for watching!
Hello .. I just discover your channel and I like your style and description about the car and I need really your advice ... I find a bmw 316i compact model 1998 with 84.000 km It's a good car ? And I'm afraid about fuel consummation... what do you think? Please respond me
been driving an e36 compact 316i (1.6 300.000kms engine swapped at 240.000) for about 1.5 years fuel is about 7l/100km (mostly city kms) and if you push the car it can go easily to 10 if you are just cruising on a highway it can go to 5l/100km fun little car with good trunk space not the best for the rear passengers if you like sitting quite back when driving but still comfortable did the headliner just yesterday (cost about 60$ to do it myself) which I think is a common problem if you live in a hot climate other than that not many complaints really
Love the vid !!! I still got my mom's compact E36 316i compact that she bought new in 1994. She has been swapped recently with a m50b20 from a 320i. It's ugly but I have way to many memories with it to let it go xdd I also have a 4door e36 325i kelleners sport
That is seriously impressive and a testament to how durable these engines are if taken care of properly. I hope your E36/5 Compact will treat you well for many more years and kms to come!
That is very interesting, I was not aware that some E36 Compacts had visible antennas. There might be regional differences like you suggested, or perhaps trim levels/options.

Hey how much gas does the 323 need on average?
@@willuum8506 Mine gets around 20mpg (11.5km/l)

The M44B19 engine offered in the 96-99 US models is one of those blocks that just never dies. Mine has 260,000 miles on the odo and it runs amazing.
Great video, don't find much content like this on UA-cam and it's good to see :)
Thank you for watching, I'm glad you liked it! This definitely motivates me to make more of this kind of content.
Just one small correction. The grille panel is actually metal. Aside from that, a very well executed video!
Interesting, I was not aware of this - thank you for pointing this out, I'm glad you liked the video!

Got that Calitop swap M50 5speed almost as fast as my real M🙃
4:00 this amount of trim every bmw had, the E34 just for example
You are right, this is not unique to the E36 as you can find it on other BMW models of this era. Nevertheless, an iconic and neat design feature!

very good video, looking into buying one here in Brazil

I have a e30 BACKKKK!!!! DAMN😍
Fitter, happier
More productive
Comfortable
Not drinking too much
Regular exercise at the gym, three days a week

Easier to oversteer you say? Doesn’t that mean it’s easier to drift the car? If so that’s a plus for me
So basically the german's equivalent to the crx
someone can tell how to change time to fuel gauge on that little monitor ?
I've driven the car for a couple of years now and I had no clue about this. Still don't. I'll see if I can figure it out next time I hop in.
Grödinge represent! Ska plocka upp en e36 316 compact. Skit taggad
i have a 95 with an antenna and a 98 aswell. must be european no antenna feature
