Bruce was in concert in Prague in 2012, friend gave me ticket to see him. He plays this song first, i was simply mesmerized. One of the greatest songs ever written. And what a great man he is❤❤❤
This song is for those also who are working in dead end jobs with managers who put their own bonuses and figures first just that benefits them not their workers . For the working class and homeless. For those working endless hours just to pay rent and put food on the table. A song entirely for the worker class and the low incomers. All those out there listening to this much respect
Truth has been told !! People living off of the hard labor work that they themselves could never do. I pray all is well with everyone these days. Gods love is strong as ever.
Funny old place, the USA. toolk me years of guthrie an dylan and a hot summer on the mother road. Then i read the grapes of wrath. Fantastc book, an a funny ole place
I was supposed to read GoW in high school... I didn’t. A couple years later I read it while in the Army. I discovered this song after reading the book. I wish Steinbeck could’ve heard it.
Did this song for A-level - well almost. Put Woody and Steinbeck in the mixer , press play and the most amazing song comes out. Takes me back 30 years to my first night in London under Charing Cross Bridge. Wow came a long way from there to university doctor but never forget my roots. Thanks Bruce, thanks Woody & thanks John Steinbeck for getting me a Star.
After hearing 20 different versions of this song thousands of times still makes me tear up every time. As for trying to sing along with the lyrics forget about it my voice breaks and I'm just crying
Just shows that nothing ever changes much. We already have the resources and technology that nobody on the planet needs to live a life of need and poverty. But we CHOOSE not to do it. We vote for those who perpetuate a system that concentrates wealth and power, celebrates division and inequality, and promotes selfish behavior. And why? Because we're afraid. Afraid of losing what we have, of losing the chance to "get ahead" in the game. Because we treat life like a game that has an end, with winners and losers, instead of the infinite journey that it is.
Wow what an awesome song honestly Bruce just keeps pulling em out.. Been to a few live performances & man you can pull a crowd & entertain top of his game,, what a great guy health & happiness to you..
Bruce is a musical giant. I wonder if even his most fervent admirers understand how important he is in a time when great artists are disappearing left and right. This masterpiece came after a slight drought in his songwriting (compared to his earlier years), and I always know he has a great song or two left in him. He can never be counted out, and his songbook only deepens as the years go by. He's earned the name Boss, that's for sure.
If there is one constant in life that constant is that Music can rescue us from depths of depression or just a shitty day, Bruce is a go to man when I have a bad day, Down here in Australia we have our very own go to artist that has remained relevant since the mid 70's and his name is Paul Kelly, if anyone is interested check him out...... Respect to the great song writers like Bruce and Paul.
I’ve always thought just about all of his songs could be used to write a film script ….. 3/4 verses , a middle 8 and a few chorus’s … 3 to 5 minutes tops and you have what could make an entire film …. The man is beyond comparison . Simply put ?…There is nobody like him… a multi millionaire who STILL knows and understands what it’s like to have pretty much next to nothing or less … .
I didn't think I could love this song or Bruce any more than I already did - I wans wrong. Amazing, beautiful, tragic, emotive - a wonderful artist and gentle genius.
How can you frighten a man whose hunger is not only in his own cramped stomach but in the wretched bellies of his children? You can't scare him - he has known a fear beyond every other. ” - Chapter 19
@@mikaylabansie9512 Trump has all the characteristic signs of a narcissistic psychopath. A psychopath does not have the capability to learn empathy, is egotistical, remorseless, no inhibition, meanness, and impulsive. Unlike a sociopath, a psychopath does not have the ability to change. For a REAL winner, Mr. Springsteen sure connects by painting lyrical paintings of folk who many fools on this planet seem strangely happy to call losers. ...and yet, STILL folk become homeless. Maybe some folk need to step off this planet for a few minutes to listen to songs like this..then step back on the planet re-newed with thoughts of NEVER leaving those who struggle to live and breathe and put one foot in front of another, behind...and yet there are good human beings out there who are being human... I, FOR ONE, SALUTE YOU ALL...and The Boss for taking time to recognise the struggle and highlight that battle in which some folk try to breathe daily on this place we all refer to as EARTH
How many songs can speak to us like "The ghost of Tom Joad"? A monument of literature (The John Steinbeck's novel, "Grapes of Wrath"), a part of history of the United States while at the great depression, the tragedy the people leaving their farms and homes and running away from the sand storms to try to reach their dream place - California to give hope and future to their children... Eventually “welcomed” as Okies - “people of a lesser importance”. Once again, about 80 years since that chapter of history, things haven’t changed much in the world. We are in awe watching the tragedy of the people fleeing war zones or places without hope, looking for a place amongst the societies that harvest and take advantage most of Earth richness and wealth to give their children a better future. Thank you for uploading and thank you Mr Springsteen for making this song!
its a vicious circle of this economy and class society, capitalism will never, unless people overthrown this system of exploitation... both John Steinbeck and Bruce Springsteen try to illustrate that meaning to the working classes of the globe. Peace and stay strong till the last victory of peoples against the capital *
One of Springsteen's best written songs... America is in a new great depression, except now it is a failure of moral virtue rather than economic failure, far more devastating to the national spirit. See version by Mumford's & Elvis Costello... heart rending.
A mon sens, une des plus touchante chanson de Bruce qui nous raconte le désenchantement, la misère, la solitude, la pauvreté de l'Amérique... Belle à en pleurer cette chanson qui me touche au plus profond de moi.
@Bruce Springsteen🎵 Hi Bruce, I'm very excited having received your message. Yes, I'm looking forward to your new album and I hope to get an update regarding your upcoming tour. Especially I hope you will come to Germany. My friends and me will be there to sing along with you, trust me 😀. Now I need to intensify my guitar learning.😉
Absolutamente sublime.
am a 65 year old man. I remember having eggs for dinner. living in North Philly my mom and dad had 8 kids. we didn't have anything but we had each other. this song is so true
Where does he get these words ? ...he is a writer an amazing singer -....jesus? I'm thinking...yeah good possibility..&...this song reminds me of a difficult time when I was young
This is the best song that has ever been written. It is pure poetry. Bruce, I have loved you since 1980. Never stop.
Don't forget "Never Tire of The Road" by Andy Irvine. Similar inspiration....
+1
One of the absolute best songs ever, may God protect every working class man, woman & child !!!
I prefer Unions.

2021....STILL relevant today. Sadly, it always will be. This is the best version of Bruce playing this song.
This song is as relevant now as it was when Mr Springstreet wrote it..........no it is more relevant now than it ever has been. Thank you for this.
Dude certainly knows how to write and play a song... Deepest respect

That's one of the reasons I always liked Springsteen. He writes mostly about the working class. Holds food drives at every concert.
@@greyeaglem a decent man with a message to tell 👏
Bruce for president sorted 👍

Basically, the working people that can’t afford to go to Bruce’s concerts anymore because of the ticket pricing system he approved.
After hearing this song I ended up reading grapes of wrath its good when a song does that to you

Best recording of this epic story.
Look at all the love and passion etched into that guitar. Battered
Listening to this song in the quarantine of 2020. the song giving me goosebumps!
Feeling the same over here in England
Listen to it live with rage against the machine guitarist
