For anyone reading this that has this airframe(MB 339) One can absolutely use a bigger size turbine than the K85+. In my case a Jetcat P130 RX. Not that I want to speed and show off, I had the engine to begin with and no plane for it so I tried it and it works. With proper throttle management. The diameter should be under 100mm for sure! and make sure the exhaust fits properly into the bellmouth of the thrust tube. Also keep in mind it's wood/balsa so not exactly the sturdiest and a big engine will rip it apart especially with high G maneuvers and tight turns with high thrust will destroy this MB 339, even though it is 2meter wingspan, it's not that tough. So careful with the throttle when using anything bigger than the K86+ G4. Have fun I certainly am with this awesome airplane, flys and looks great IMHO👍

The tail pipe really does like any thing bigger than the 85 , The plane and safety is at risk with a bigger turbine,

Thanks Jeff for the great video. I enjoyed being with you at fall nall. I saw that this is a great everyday flier.

Hello Jeff from Team Horizon. I’ve been flying Jets for several years, using the SPM9574 airspeed sensor. It’s works extremely well, however is now discontinued, due to the supplier, Eagle Tree, now defunct. Can you talk to/convince HH to get a new supplier?, or get with me with contact with the individuals who made this part. The airspeed voice announcement from the radio is extremely valuable for flying turbine jets, especially for landing approach. We very much need this airspeed sensor available again.

I use the GPS or Sky ID for speed now, They will no longer make the sensor now.

I’ve watched all of your videos and they have been very helpful. You seem to know a lot about spektrum radios. This is a radio question for turbines. A friend of mine suggested I set the throttle trim so that it acts like a three position switch. So that if shuts down your turbine faster? He uses a different radio system and didn’t know how do do it with spektrum. Thanks for your help

I might actually take you up on the flap advise. I generally love to land with lots of drag + generous amounts of throttle, but the 339 specifically, tends to build a LOT of ground effect when you get down to the last foot. Lands at a crawl, but it is ironically hard to dictate exactly where you touch down. Which is a bit of an issue if wanting to fly off very short runways.
This is a common 339 quirk though, and not specific for the hangar 9.
As for knife edge mixing, that's something I hate with a passion - for the simple reason that I use my rudder for so much more. In a shallow bank, coordinated turn for example, the aileron KE mix would work against me.
Using UAT as ballast, as tempting as it is, is a good idea until the day the trap actually has a job to do. If having to land a dead stick model, it is good to not be tail heavy at the same time.
Completely agree on a gyro. It is never about whether or not it is strictly needed. Of course it's not. But it is a very good bonus, and makes the model appear and feel even better. Gyros, like everything else, requires tuning though. We see far too many comments like "tried installing one, didn't like it, pulled it out, much better". In short, pilots installing systems without putting in the effort to learn and tune.

Any chance I could get a measurment from you on the exact width of the exhaust outlet without the thrust tube. I'm bulding mine EDF and everything hinges on what the size of the outlet is as to the fan unit I can use.

@@jeffholsinger3356 I'm sorry, what I need is the measurement of the opening of the outlet of the plane, not the pipe.

Do you think the KT102 is too big for this airframe?

  • @irwinwka

At 3:13 you’re discussing the flap elevator mix. I see you are using a spektrum radio. What is the mix% on the radio for 1st and 2nd flap positions. Thanks for the videos

I use flight mode trims for this witch means that I trim the ele. at three different positions so we don't use a mix any longer, I have a vid on this setup on our radios

Physically the same size as a k85 but definitely not needed or recommended in this airplane

What kind of flight times are you getting?

    • @janmb
      @janmb Рік тому +1

I fly mine on an X85 and get a very, very conservative 8. I think a more realistic, still safe margin number might be closer to 10. And easily 15 minutes if I were to deliberately do an endurance flight. I hear the kingtech supposedly is a touch more thirsty though, so don't take my numbers as gospel.

If you fly hard 7 minutes is all I get

Hard flying on a 85 is no longer than 6 mins.
