    What I love about watching his videos is not only opening your mind to think deeply about issues, but mostly, reading the comments. JP states in his book that thinking takes 2 people to talk and share ideas, share experiences, and different perspectives. One could think alone, but what new information could one bestow upon oneself? One must speak to others to accomplish best possible thinking process. Unfortunately, we're not (I am not) able to locate someone capable and willing to do so around me much these days. So reading your comments and any discourse that follows is my way to self improve.

      It's a very nuanced thing. You, and by consequence, your decisions are based on an amalgamation of all of your experiences, all of your spiritual needs and beliefs, and all of your biological desires. We anthropomorphize our DNA because that's our gestalt, but it's not intelligent or caring and there's no part of it that has a singular "I want to survive and propagate" gene. It does have reproduction genes and we do have a lot of genes that associates procreation and sexual satisfaction with a more stable and capable mind. That comes from thousands of generations breeding "families are stable" into the genome. Whether you believe that's a process that was guided by a creator is up to you.
      I say this because wanting children has a very ancient and biological aspect to it, but also, you're a person capable of making decisions and choices and you're choosing to want to have a child. Which as a father of 2 children I can tell you; that's answering a call to adventure.

      Maybe he should stick to psychology, this does not make sense. Sexual reproduction evolved way before multicelular life, I canot see how this would protect singlecellular organisms from parasites, since when they reproduce sexually they literary merge in one... The reason why sexual reproduction evolved was to create diversity, which allows for more targeted natural selection.

    Are there any references related to this video? I have never heard of this type of arms race (rather, it being so important) because sexual reproduction occurs in so many vastly different groups of animals, and even with plants, that is hard to believe that it all evolved simply to confer resistance to parasitism. From what I've learned in the past, it is to mix up the genes so that The offspring can be more adaptable to changing conditions such as temperature, salinity, acidity, disease, and other factors that can increase or decrease the organism's chances for survival and reproduction.
    Cool short overall but needs mire context IMHO.

      Take "parasites" less literally. What he's referring to are "useless" people who are a burden on society.
      Sex is necessary for reproduction for humans, and it serves as a two fold filter.
      The first filter is earning the privilege to have sex to begin with; men are forced to perform and prove themselves as worthy of sex
      Even then, half their genes are sacrificed in the process, and in natural selection, only the strong, desirable genes shoukd make it through
      If a "parasite" somehow manipulated his way into having sex and thus a child, his child will be genetically less useless than he is.

      Mutation is less likely through direct replication. You missed the subject matter but tried to critique the point..

      @AsiandOOd Місяць тому +3

      @@dylansullivan569 it is though. if you had a mutated egg / cell it will be around 4x more likely to pass down mutations. when there is sexual reproduction, you first have 2 sets of different chromosomes which already reduce the likelyhood of passing down mutations by half. then you have crossovers which also reduce the likelyhood of passing down genetic mutations by half. in asexual reproduction, if the mother is an albino, the kid will 99% be albino. if the mother is colorblind, the kid will 99% be colorblind. if the mother had polydactyly, hereditary heart disease, type one diabetes, the kid will inherit 100% of that. all that it takes to form a mutation is a change in the singular egg cell that reproduces, and all of its children will inherit that mutation in that one egg cell.

    • @VestaRoleplay
      @VestaRoleplay 28 днів тому

      The risk may decrease but it will always be there, and its healthy to keep a certain risk since your immune system is split into 2 categories; one basic immune defense you get when you are born (neutraphiles are a good example, white blood cells) and the second is adaptative. Think of Memory T Cells and such. It learns based on experience such as new invasions and vaccines.
      If we decrease the risk, that's good. But, they're not gone. They'll never be gone unless you are willing to sacrifice the beauty of natural environments. Which you shouldn't.
      We are forest humans. We not only strive in those environments but we become depressed without them.
      So, no, if the risk decreases, we should always remain vigilant and keep those immune systems. I also don't think there's any benefits to change the way we reproduce. There's too much beauty in love and sexual intercourse with a loved one. The syncronizations of everything within that dance and the romance is of unexplicable beauty.

    This is known as the red queen hypothesis. We know it works to push natural seleftion to select for sexual reproduction. But it requires such high speficity of host-parasite interaction that the modern consensus is that it's most likely not how sexual reproduction evolved. This is just one theory amongst many.

    Keep in mind, it's not exactly half it's just a good approximation, but you have things like recessive genes and dominant genes that affect how much they are expressed. Also there's the aspect that by combining genes we are allowing more opportunities for mutation. The way that asexual creatures keep up with this is simply by reproducing so quickly, yet even then they're vulnerable to things taking advantage of their more uniform genes.
