It's a very nuanced thing. You, and by consequence, your decisions are based on an amalgamation of all of your experiences, all of your spiritual needs and beliefs, and all of your biological desires. We anthropomorphize our DNA because that's our gestalt, but it's not intelligent or caring and there's no part of it that has a singular "I want to survive and propagate" gene. It does have reproduction genes and we do have a lot of genes that associates procreation and sexual satisfaction with a more stable and capable mind. That comes from thousands of generations breeding "families are stable" into the genome. Whether you believe that's a process that was guided by a creator is up to you. I say this because wanting children has a very ancient and biological aspect to it, but also, you're a person capable of making decisions and choices and you're choosing to want to have a child. Which as a father of 2 children I can tell you; that's answering a call to adventure.
Maybe he should stick to psychology, this does not make sense. Sexual reproduction evolved way before multicelular life, I canot see how this would protect singlecellular organisms from parasites, since when they reproduce sexually they literary merge in one... The reason why sexual reproduction evolved was to create diversity, which allows for more targeted natural selection.
Actually the more people differ in their _major histocompatibility complex_ genes, the more sexual attraction they appear to feel for each other. So MHC genes are the one set of genes we look for differences but all other genes we find more attractive for similarity.
@@revcrussellLook at the smart guy in the room! (That sounds condescending or sarcastic. It isn't at all. It's a compliment.) I was going to say it too. I'll add a fun fact. Humans can unknowingly smell those MHC differences in potential mates, and it increases their attraction when it has some diversity, but not TOO much diversity.
The solution also replicates itself in the form of seeking new perspectives with which to meld your own, creating a synthesis of consciousness which better inoculates one against the parasitic elements
