I saw your video from 1993. That exact year my family and myself traveled from Texas to Minnesota as migrant workers. We used to stay at a site camp called Grass Camp. At the time I was 14 yrs old and was already working in the corn fields at 5am. I also worked in the asparagus fields. My mom and sisters worked at the canned corn factory. I’m not going to say I miss working in the field but would like to go back to Owatonna one day to see how much it has changed. And maybe go see if those camps still exist. We also went back in March through September of 1994.
In the 80s and 90s there were a lot of migrant workers from Texas that would weed or thin the sugar beet fields in the area. Some of them decided to stay permanently in the larger town about 25 miles away. I am not sure if migrant workers still come up for that work as herbicides for the weeds may have changed, etc. Corn detasseling is/was also some seasonal work. Used to be done (maybe still is) by local high school kids. I never did that but a cousin did. Thanks for the comment!
