The Streets of Coventry in 1986

- Filmed a year earlier than the previous trip in 1986 this 'bonus' footage includes a car journey from Kenilworth Road towards 'town', joins the ring road before heading east out of the city via Gulson Rd and Binley Road. Unlike the previous route, there have been many changes here including the closure and disappearance of the eye hospital on Gulson Road together with other changes along the route - most notably Gosford Green area and the removal of the old railway bridge replaced in later years by the construction of 'Sky Blue Way'.

Blimey…a time before Central 6 was built and Gulson Hospital was demolished. Love these videos.
Great to see the old cars , i don't think you could recreate that drive now as the ring road by the rail station has changed a little.

I left Coventry in 1996 and it looked very simlar to this. I havent been back for many years, but I've visiting for a couple of days in the next 2 weeks, so I'm really eager to see how much it has changed.
How was it? I’ve lived in Coventry my whole life, I wasn’t born when this video was filmed but it doesn’t look alien to me, obviously different cars but overall it looks the same, just a few new buildings

Most interesting. Brought up in Coventry but I have never returned since immigrating to the US. For me, the ring road is a mistake, at least have should have kept all portions to the surface. Greetings from Phoenix, Arizona.
Coventry my birth place loved it freedon to play every body new every one living in wood end had nice little shops to get the new paper Gladys the cake shop to buy cakes what a life then 😊

A few old sights there which no longer exist.. horizon house, home of two tone studios.. I mean, fancy tearing that down. The big old house by the railway bridge that became the fantastic Stoker club.. before disappearing under a huge traffic island for the new road. The council knew full well they were going to demolish it, and yet invested a huge amount of money to turn it into a community centre and live music venue. Something very shady went on I reckon 😐
