Sent to Coventry by Alan Van Wijgerden part of the First Cut scheme for Central supported by West Midlands Arts. A picture postcard view of life in Coventry.
I absolutely love this video. Having grown up in Coventry it brought back a lot of memories. Seeing the entrance to the sport centre and the mention of the penny black in particular. Location aside, it was brilliantly put together. Excellent stuff.
im 37 now and i remember going to the dog and trumpet when i was 17 every friday night. and i remember woolworths. my nan and grandad use to take us to a cafe in bellgreen in the square i remember and kwiksave. now coventry is becoming more open space and looking nice but still u dont need like 5 subway restaurants so damn close of 5 min walking distance from each other. wilkos has now gone i take it when i dont see them loosing money and stuff in that store were reasonable price and not like stupid expensive BOOTS that should just go. but people still shop there. also idk if its still there but there was a perfume stall in west orchards that was stupidly high priced. i went body care and found same aftershave for hell of a lot cheaper. also KONG skate shop use to be way better back in the day when the artist from Discharged owned it and when u walked in they had skate decks above ya head all over the place. now its a stupid fashion store more than a skate shop with hardly any skate parts. my mate lyle who i skated with his mum owned nextdoor shop called bubble. which sold gothic stuff.
@@doctorwhoproductions834 i was in year 10 Cresswell. Had to do yr 11 in west cov academy. They didn't give a shit bout our year, they wanted us done and out the way.
@@dentalsurgeon5591 so your a year ahead of me, it pisses me off so much because i was so happy with woodlands, so down to earth and helpful. When i was forced into tile hill i didn’t get any help and hated it there
An Amazon center now occupies the real estate that was Jaguar Cars Ltd. William Lyons must be spinning in his grave!! All PhD's in useless subjects and look down upon anybody with a craft skill. Good luck with that! Greetings from a Brit residing in the USA.
Great historical document. Almost everything shown has gone now.
Glad you captured a fleeting glimpse of good old Hits n Misses.
Such a brilliant time capsule, thanks for going to the lengths to make it.

Great old skool documentary on our city. Thank you for sharing :)
Nice video, I was just a toddler at his time, but it's nice to see things as they were back then.

The worrying thing is the city centre has got even worse now.

Did you have a sister who went to THW? Your name's familiar
I kind of enjoyed that. Could have done with a bit of an edit.
And woodlands isn't open no more, oh well
I was in year 9 when it shut so I had to go tile hill wood for year 10
