Hi, I'm a retired railwayman living in Devon whose major interests lie in transport, particularly old railway locos and aircraft, world travel and have a particular fondness for all things Spanish. I've been hosting UA-cam shorts of late with an interest in growing the channel by entertaining (hopefully), other enthusiasts. Take a dib in and view some of the videos, it all helps.

RARE video clip of the Gosford Green Line in Coventry
Переглядів 1,8 тис.2 години тому
A very early and rare video clip taken in 1980 of a car train having left the yard at Gosford Green and heading north towards Three Spires Junction. The location of the shot at Barras Heath is now unrecognisable. The train was about to pass the old Morris Engines plant, one of several automotive factories to be found in Coventry at that time. The line sadly closed the following year in 1981.
1960s Snow Hill and the Southern Approaches to Birmingham New Street
Переглядів 2,1 тис.7 годин тому
Back in Birmingham we witness more scenes of workings at Snow Hill Station including a warship on freight traffic before moving to the southern approach to New Street Station from a view point no longer there. Work is seen taking place prior to electrification and a Pullman service is seen on the Snow Hill line from the same vantage point.
Metropolitan Line locos
Переглядів 56912 годин тому
One oddity of the London Underground rail system was the use of these electric locomotives hauling standard rolling stock on the Metropolitan Lines. The trains were hauled as far as Rickmansworth where they would be replaced by steam engines. The practice however ended in 1962 and all the locomotives, except numbers 5 and 12, were withdrawn and scrapped. Please note that this film has been tran...
Claydon Crossing in the 1970s & 80s
Переглядів 2 тис.16 годин тому
Situated to the south of Leamington Spa and north of Banbury is Claydon Crossing. Now little more than a foot crossing, the original gated crossing was controlled from the signalbox which closed in the mid-eighties. Pictured here are various shots taken during the 1970s and 1980s at this once rural but busy location. Please note that this footage is taken directly from 8mm cine film and therefo...
Early Diesels in Scotland - 1960s
Переглядів 2,3 тис.21 годину тому
Although Scotland's railways became some of the first lines to oust steam locomotives from their trains, the changeover process was slow. Lots of new diesel designs in the late 1950s and early 1960s were tried out in Scotland so the variety of different types was extensive. Some were more successful than others. Some went on for decades but others, like the North British locos and the diesel ra...

Great clip, Wow' that engine was working to the Max. What a sound. Forget relaxation tapes, play me this anytime. 😊
Glad you enjoyed it
Brush 2, NOT class 31. I loved the look of them the 26’s as well.
Great footage, I was over a decade too late in getting to Coventry to see this line in use. I did explore some of the disused railway lines in my student days, but (as is often the case) I wish I'd done a lot more.
Is that chimney the whitley tip ?
Brings back great memories. Regards, John
I was employed by BR in Coventry TOPS office at the time,so it brings back memories. Class 25 real workhorses,we had a loading of over 1500 tonnes to Bescot! It could still be heard passing Tile Hill. They were replacement by class 31s which couldn't pull the skin off a rice pudding.
Working as follows.Gosford Green to Coventry yard with loaded cartics and loaded containers, then a Class 47 to Linwood in Scotland. Return working Class 47 will cartics loaded with Hillman Imps and empty containers.Local trip next morning back to Gosford Green.2 sets of vehicles in circuit.
Oops from Gosford green to Three Spires Jct,l think it is actually not on the Gosford branch but en route on the main Nuneaton line en route to Three Spires.
Great video. Miss the sound of the classic sulzer type engine locomotives.
This was the local trip working from Coventry to three spires junction where it would run round and take the train to Coventry Yard.
Not quite sure that is 100% correct, as the train used to come down from Scotland fully loaded with cars...Hillman Imps, and were all unloaded at Gosford Green Goods yard on the Binley Road. By first job on leaving school was working for British Rail and based at the Gosford Green depot, around 1961/62 ish.
Another cracking little gem there John thank you
Glad you enjoyed it
I think it was the coventry avoiding line between gosford green and three spires junction. It's now the A444
Coventry Loop Line
That little sulzer is working flat out, amazing sound..............
I don't think I'm too far away from this being the view today: www.google.com/maps/@52.4167949,-1.4870432,3a,75y,0.01h,86.67t/data=!3m6!1e1!3m4!1sfGEQ2T6RyQOvPSSQQmu4nw!2e0!7i16384!8i8192?coh=205409&entry=ttu
A well loaded Car Train for that 25. Where does this line run too, from?.
It's the Cov avoiding line. It's now the A444.
The other end of Three Spires I believe connected with Keresley Colliery off the line to Nuneaton.
That's correct. It still runs along what was the Colliery branch to Prologis. Been mothballed for several years though now.
AWESOME
Thank you! Cheers!
Bro it looked like things were open then like, the crown was open?
Wonderful film! First day of the summer holidays in 1967, my dad took me trainspotting at Hayes & Harlington Station to watch the Westerns roar through at speed. He said they sounded like Spitfires taking off! Just dad and me, a lovely sunny morning and still recalled as one of the best days of my life . ❤
Glad you enjoyed it
Awesome 👍
Thank you! Cheers!
Great footage
Thank you kindly
Love the Warships. Used to seem them regularly on the Waterloo to Exeter service back in the late 60's early 70's
I wonder how many of those Vauxhalls had rusted out by time the train got to where it was going!
Great footage, some of those Diesels look older than they are.
Excellent film again ❤
Many thanks
Another gem!
Back to my childhood - I used to live in the Amersham/Chesham area. Always loved those locos, and was also enamored with the Met "Dreadnought" rolling stock. Used to hang out of the window in the tunnel between Finchley Road and Baker Street - the trains would invariably grind to a halt somewhere within. Spent hours at Ricky, watching the changeovers. I was later at school/college in Devon, in the days of transition from steam to diesel. so was hooked on the diesel hydraulics too - I very much like your series of 'Western' videos. Thank you.
Many thanks. Glad you enjoyed them,
nice to finally see a video with more of the old locos in action!
More to come!
I can remember these great locomotive s as I watched the end of steam and still the big 4 carriage s great memories both of my grandparents dad's worked on the railway and followed in there foot steps working at lime street Liverpool
You have an absolute gold mine of videos. Where are these all coming from?
A friend and I have been accumulating these over the years. Many have been used in some of our older projects but now has come the time for clips to be released through our UA-cam channel.
Great video. Like me !
A Warship at Crewe! That can't have been common?
Great video. I have some truly wonderful memories of Crewe in the 80's. It's a reminder of how much variety of loco's you had then, unlike today where it's all very repetitive
Glad you enjoyed it
Beautiful locos ❤
Thanks for watching
Great vid. The train at 0:55 is a really strange looking thing.
Incredible footage from a bygone era. Thanks for sharing
Glad you enjoyed it
I suppose the line was linked
I was thinking of Steeple Claydon there for a minute on the old Brain line
488's were the mark 2 "F" coaches hauled by the 73's & 489's were the driving luggage vans at the other end of the coaches in your film.
Makes me feel old watching this😢 loved the warship and western, great video.
Thanks
Thanks for sharing. Great to see.
Glad you enjoyed it
Wow! Some absolutely fantastic footage here, wonder if any of the locations featured are Speyside or Moray Coast as well as Elgin and Lossiemouth?
Superb a pity no sound as the last scene with the 25 ,she was working like a dog !
Excellent coverage, particularly liked the class 25 clips, thanks for uploading
Glad you liked it
Some rare footage there!! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it
I watched trains not far north of here in Wigston Leicester, just in a short stretch were 3 signal boxes still working. Wonderful memories of a very labour intensive living railway
Brilliant stuff!!! Thanks for sharing !
My pleasure!
Looks very different there now. Great film again. This is affectionately known as ‘Big T.ts’ crossing after the lady that always used to wave there 😂
Indeed it is!
The frame from the signal box is now at Gotherington on the Gloucestershire & Warwickshire Railway
