  • Join me on a journey as I share the story of Brian's Pond - a massive backyard oasis that my dad built by hand 34 years ago. This quarter-acre pond is home to a thriving ecosystem of goldfish, complete with a beautiful waterfall and stream. Since my father's passing, I have taken on the responsibility of keeping his pond running smoothly. Watch as I clean, maintain, and nurture this special place that holds so many memories. I feel him with me every time I'm there. Explore the wonders of Brian's Pond and learn how I ensure its longevity and health in loving memory of my dad.
    The backstory...
My parents had gone for a vacation to see family in England in the 80's. My mother loved that they had these small Koi ponds. When they came home she asked my dad, because he was so handy and was a civil engineer, to make one for her. My father was not the type to do anything small. This man staked out a giant waterfall, winding streaming and a huge pond one day while my mom was out. She came home to posts in the ground that marked the outline of his creation. The conversation went something like this:
Mom: Brian what the hell is all of this??
Dad: It's the pond you asked for.
Mom: I asked for a small koi pond!
I can only guess that my dad shrugged or made some sort of smart ass comment. LOL! I don't remember his reply.
My dad proceeded to build this pond by himself. No pond "how to books", no internet, just a smart man with an engineering degree and colleagues to ask about things he needed to double check.
I plan on sharing short monthly updates of my personal time with you.
You will see the pond clear, the fish up and playful, the backyard turn into the jungle that my father loved so much.

The pond is absolutely beautiful - but it looks like a lot of work!! You’re a good daughter to help your mother with the pond. I can’t wait to see the pond when it clears up😊

Technically yes, although Wikipedia does say the terms can be used interchangeably.
Thank you for watching the whole video!
Depending on the context, the terms "pergola", "bower", and "arbor" are often used interchangeably. An "arbor" is also regarded as being a wooden bench seat with a roof, usually enclosed by lattice panels forming a framework for climbing plants. A pergola, on the other hand, is a much larger and more open structure. Normally, a pergola does not include integral seating.
