  • In the novel New Dawn written by John Jackson Miller, Kanan Jarrus comes into contact with Hera Syndulla for the first time. Hera met Kanan on Gorse and its moon Cynda approximately six years prior to the events in Star Wars Rebels where she found him as a drunk. With Hera being very beautiful and Kanan being the young rogue like Han Solo, there was definitely some attraction involved and Kanan first fell in love with Hera by the sound of her voice.

Hera was a young rebel whose goal was to liberate the planet Gorse from a sinister Imperial officer, Count Denetrius Vidian.
During an incident relating to the mining operations on Cynda, Kanan revealed himself to be a Jedi and instructed Hera to not tell.
After working together, Hera was the one who helped Kanan turn his life around and offered him a position on the Ghost crew, which Kanan accepted and together they would start the seeds of rebellion.
When we first meet them in Rebels, their romantic status is very shallow to say the least.
Hera calls Kanan “love” at times and they have this bond that immediately feels like they’re playing the role of mother and father of the crew but the actual details of their relationship with one another is kept very reserved from the audience.
We know they love each other but how far that love extends isn’t exactly clear.
The first time we begin to understand how much Hera cares for Kanan is during the final episodes of the first season.
Kanan sacrifices himself and is captured by The Empire and she is stricken with sorrow but instead of making a reckless decision to rescue him she chooses the Rebellion first.
She eventually helps in rescuing Kanan from his brief captivity aboard a Star Destroyer and the two embrace once he’s back aboard The Ghost but the romantic implications between the two are still subtle.
It continues on this way throughout much of the second season with a few private moments shared between them.
That is, until the third to last episode of Season 2.
Kanan must set out on a dangerous mission with Ezra and Ahsoka Tano, a mission so dangerous in fact that there is the very possible chance that he might not return.
Hera doesn’t want him to go but she can’t come along on this mission, not this time.
Kanan promises that he will return and embraces her in a long, drawn-out hug.
This is the first time the romantic aspect between the two of them has cranked up a notch, providing us a greater understanding of how much they mean to one another.
When he returns, blinded by his encounter with Maul, the relief and joy she feels that he has returned mixed with the pains of sorrow that something horrible happened to him is very emotional.
This is foreshadowing of what will happen to him later on down the road and how much Hera cares for him.
On infiltrating Lothal, the band of rebels had to split into groups while heading through the streets to avoid Imperial activity.
Hera and Kanan, for once, have no one with them, no Chopper, Ezra, Sabine, or Zeb.
It’s just them, all alone in a dark alleyway at night.
Things turned romantic real fast and Kanan takes advantage of the solitude to talk to Hera in an intimate way, telling her how he wishes he could see her.
She responds by removing the mask that covers his damaged eyes to remind him that he would always be able to see her.
They are about to kiss but they are rudely interrupted over the coms!
In the very next episode, the intimacy between the two characters is still there but they keep it together, choosing to return to the task at hand rather than smooching every two seconds. However, just when it seemed like things were going to return somewhat to a subtle romance, Hera lands a whammy on Kanan and the two lovebirds FINALLY kiss.
Kanan and Hera’s relationship embodied this unrushed philosophy, allowing the arrival of the romantic aspect to the story to be rewarding rather than annoying which I greatly appreciated in the writing.
It’s also why Kanan’s sacrifice to save his friends, and most importantly, Hera’s, was so gut-wrenching.
She had just FINALLY told him that she loved him, they had kissed to seal the deal and they would go on to be married and then boom…literally.
When I was watching this for the first time It felt like my heart had been ripped out of my chest and torn in two.
It didn’t help matters with the writers continuously reminding us how Kanan’s death had affected Hera as she dealt with her grief for much of the rest of the season.

@@Pattmore I’m recently rewatching all of Star Wars chronologically and it’s hard to get through rebels. The first season is a real 1/10 and It’s just so boring and pointless. The animation is laughably disgusting and I’m one of the few who actually likes the design but the animation is🤢
Season 2 is an improvement but continues to be garbage with so many more episodes than the first. Ahsoka, rex, Tarkin, and especially vader make it worth watching but that’s only 30% of the show instead we focus on poorly made characters with a few that I like can’t make up for the awful rest. The ending of season 2 was probably the best the show ever got and it didn’t even have the main characters, only our nostalgia.
Season 3 is a mild improvement with a fair share of stinkers. I like kanan a lot more and Hera is good. Sabine and Ezra mature and actually become respectable characters not gonna lie. Not only that but it gave us a god scent with Thrawne
      He’s good and compelling.
The twins suns episode was great and I never thought Ezra would see obiwan. Kenobi vs maul was 🤩gold.
The final two episodes had stakes and I like that.
I’m currently watching season 4 and it’s not so bad but no where near clone wars.

    • @Philipp3022
      @Philipp3022 Рік тому +1

I watched it now for the first time.
      Why it’s not trash?
For many lore aspects like subtle hints for the OT and Rogue One, Mortis Arc with Palpatine, Vader and Ahsoka, Thrawn confirmed canon, Maul and Obi Wans satisfying last fight etc
Why it’s for many trash or often very trashy?
Many filler episodes, it’s very child-cartoonish (which is logical as it’s a even more children cartoon as CW), the empire was made even more comical and less threatening when the rebel group always outplays them especially Thrawn (often with very stereotypical ways based: on Zeb-strong, Chopper-Tech, Hera-Pilot, Sabine-explosives, Kanan and Ezra-Force), Stormtroopers became even bigger memes, sometimes very linear and predictable story telling, Ezra sometimes became a to big driving force for the main plot of the OT a la to much cameos, the finale with these space whales was kinda cringe but ok and most importantly these trash flying inquisitors with their lightsabers (insert Finn: „They fly now?“)
I go with a fellow comment. It has its moments 40-60% which are worth to watch but it also has very stereotypical filler.

Makes sense to me. My natural dialect is the Central Appalachian one, but I have half-consciously changed and suppressed it over the years after being mocked and called things like “stupid hillbilly” while living away from Appalachia. It only comes out occasionally, like when I’m really tired or, yes, angry, and with certain words. E.g. creek is properly pronounced “crick” Thank you very much. For two episodes they try to kiss, just before he dies they kiss for the first time and she gets pregnant? How in the world could that have happened? And if they had had sex before that, the episodes where they tried to kiss and the episode when they kissed would be out of place. After all, it was implied here that it was the first time. The logic behind this is not comprehensible. Sure, you can have sex without kissing, but I assume that most of us kiss and cuddle with our partner before the sexual act.

I think the most we can hope for is that Kanan returns as a force ghost in some way. He did as a lothe wolf and a presence behind Hera when she was grieving. This was my favorite Star Wars couple. The most believable romance of the entire series. Very mature even from the beginning when they were refer to themselves as mom and dad. Clearly they had a relationship of some kind when the series started. They may have put it on hold because of the war but by the end of the show it was heating up.Kanan's death was heartbreaking. I would just like to see a force ghost of him watching over his son and the woman he would have married.

Actually in that scene when they're hiding in the alley and about to kiss it's implied this was something they did many times before when they were alone. Unfortunately they were interrupted by the comms. When you see Hera kissing Kanan it was actually the first time they did it publicly in front of the family. It was a promise that there would be a future for them after the war. Rebels was a kid show so of course they're not going to show the details. But there was plenty of opportunity for Hera and Kanan to be alone and intimate together before her capture and his death.
