This song has riffs inside that are so powerful and perfect that I could listen to them repeatedly, finding in every listen a new picture, a new detail in it.
I liked death metal for what it was when I was a teen but when I saw this music video and song, I said to myself "this... this is what I want more of... slooooow brutal death metal!" None other did it like Obituary.

Obituary & Death were my favourite death metal bands back in the day; perhaps they still are - as they're music is supreme in contrast to the majority (if not all) of modern day death metal music.
I prefer Chuck Schuldiner's style, but this brings back childhood memories. I don't wanna be this old, I still feel like 19-21. And still smiling when something like this pop up :D

Dude that is awesome. I got pushed into the "Stockholm death" scene in the early 90s with bands like "Grave," and very early "Entombed." Specifically the "Left Hand Path," "Clandestine" and "Wolverine Blues" era stuff, because I liked Obituary. Im stoked that a comment on youtube was able to turn you on to another great and often underrated death metal band like Grave. So cheers man, and thanks for the kind words.
Watched this video when it debuted on Headbangers' Ball's Triple Thrash Threat when I was a teenager. Changed my life, and moved me from playing thrash into playing death metal.
The first Obituary song I heard back in the day. "The End Complete" was also my first Obituary tape. Seeing them in Indianapolis in 2005 with Napalm Death was one of the best nights of my life.
Obituary were a perfect combination of death metal meets groove metal. I'm ashamed that it took me two years hear of Frank's passing, been out of touch with the metal community for five years. RIP Frank.

I remember seeing this video on MTV's "Headbangers Ball". I used to record every single Video on VHS Tapes and enjoyed watching it over and over again. But these days are gone :( Today there is youtube, spotify and other stuff and i got the feeling that this is killing "our" music.
A buddy of mine use to do the same thing. He let me borrowed one of his recordings of Headbangers because I didn't have cable. I watched it and discovered Sepultura. Been listening to death metal since.
It might be killing the music, but it's definitely also bringing it to more audiences and making it more easily accessible. Not to say that it's better than the old ways at all, but it has its perks. I was lucky enough to be raised on heavy metal, but for people my age who are less fortunate, UA-cam and other streaming services are very good ways for them to find new and better music.
It's been more than 20 years since I head this from the first time, on a mixtape from a guy in Germany. So many great death metal bands, albums and songs since then, but this is still the National Anthem of Death Metal.
Remember it like yesterday, this video was the first time I ever heard death metal. I had read about it, but never gotten to hear it until I ordered Metal Hammer´s death thrash and speed VHS. Before internet and youtube information super highway I lived in a small village with no record shops. This was a big revelation for me. Thank you Obituary!
Well said. I have been listening to death metal for over 15 years now and can you believe that I have never heard of Grave? I just gave a listen to their "Into the Grave" album and I like what I hear. It is nice to hear another death metal band that executes with a sense of rhythm and melody and alternates between passages with breakneck speed and slow, powerful, grinding riffs instead of trying too hard to be "the fastest and most extreme." Thanks for introducing me to a great band!
