    Wow! I’ve been in this Jamaica station coming from JFK on the air train. ! When i lived in Carle Place LI , Jamaica was the main hub in the 70’s , i think still it is ! Good job !

      Thanks for the support! Jamaica is a beautiful station, but as I mentioned, it's not super passenger oriented.

    • @troybellamy4615
      @troybellamy4615 2 роки тому +2

      While Jamaica only has a convenience in the main train hall and a snack shack on the upper level, since it's primary role is as an across platform transfer poin, such amenities aren't needed! That being said the area around the station is surrounded by multiple resteraunts, hotels and stores! It is a far from a non retail oriented community!
      The M7s include standard outlets on the outer seats adjacent to car doors!

      @@troybellamy4615 Thanks for the awesome info! I wasn't at Jamaica for long, so I didn't have time to check out the surrounding area, but I'll be sure to dedicate more time to exploring next time I'm in the area. I also didn't know about the outlets at the door adjacent seats. Seems like a weird choice to have only one spot with outlets.

    • @troybellamy4615
      @troybellamy4615 2 роки тому +2

      @@LonestarTrips The outlets are primarily for employee car maintenance, but the train crews never object if you plan something in! Most commuter rail system seem to have these hookups!
      The area around the Jamaica Station has been designated an airport arrival zone so in recent years has added a lot of tourist based infrastructure! It also happens to be at the very end of the Jamaica Business District! Within walking distance you'll find landmarks going back to the 18th century and a a few museums! It really is a nice area with a very diverse history! Most of the high rises you see sprouting up around the station are aimed at enticing Airport workers to have housing close to the Airport or to offer fair priced accommodations close to the Airport! The area has seen quite the the transformation within the last few years!
      The majority of railroad commuters who've ever stopped at Jamaica Station have never ventured past it's platforms so it would never be able to support a large retail mall or food court found similarly sized stations! It is very good at what it does however! If you ever return there, you'll notice that the bulk of the headhouse serves as company headquarters!

    Recently took the AirTrain from Kennedy Airport to Jamaica station to connect to the LIRR that took me into Penn Station. Painless. And the Moynihan Train Hall is spectacular.

    • @RonGerstein
      @RonGerstein 2 місяці тому

      The Moynihan Train Hall occupies the General Post Office Building and is used solely by AMTRAK. The LIRR uses Penn Station under Madison Square Garden, sharing tracks and platforms with New Jersey Trainsit.

      Lucky! I've been able to catch a glimpse of them hiding in Philly's yard, but never up close. Hopefully I'll be able to make it out to the Northeast for their first revenue runs in 2024.

      I'm glad you enjoyed! I'll be going more in depth on Moynihan in a couple weeks when I take the LIRR back to Jamaica to head to the airport, although I'm not to sure when that will be. I may take a look at the footage I have of Moynihan and if I have what I need, I'm considering making a standalone video touring the station.

      I would recommend taking the LIRR and AirTrain to JFK. The LIRR will guarantee you have plenty of space for luggage without having to deal with the subway. Plus the airtrain to JFK is super easy, so definitely the best option.

      As a New Yorker who grew up there, I will tell you. Get a ticket Woodside station and go upstairs for the Manhattan bound 7 train Get off at Courthouse Square 1 stop after Queensborough Plaza. The Woodside station has been in service for both trains since 1917. And I still remember the wooden escalator from the sidewalk to the token booth below the train tracks. We lived in Woodside from 1957 til 1961.
