I started of watching something about aliens, which lead me to a Smokey and the Bandit replica. Now I'm watching wood turning. Go figure.

It can save you a lot of money on woodwork project if you have the in depth woodwork system. I have written all of my experience & expensive mistakes I've made in my very first days on wood working. You should discover more about it: *TopFineWoodworking .Com* '''

Awesome! I must admit, if I ever did one of those for an actual piece of furniture, I'd want to use a machine like this. Carving them by hand is fun and relaxing. . .in small numbers. And short pieces.

looks like some kind of molding cutter mounted to a metal lathe. The lathe would allow for keeping the interval even and repetition.

Sure it is a nice job. We must understand that it is done on a machinist's lathe. It is not a wood lathe. It is called screw cutting mixed with some modified grinding where the stone has been replaced by a knife. None the less, nice work!

It´s an old lathe adapted with a CNC commander. We can see the circular rails where the old tool turret was attached.
someone asked above: the rotating and axial movement are sincronized probably by an encoder.
    keep going

There will always be jobs that no robot can replace a human. Robots just allow for more efficient "mindless' tasks to be done. Humans can move on to the stuff that takes our brain to accomplish. And even if robots eventually ARE capable of doing everything we can....well then we wouldn't need to work and robots could get us our food, shelter, etc... Humans could just enjoy life :)

It's true the employeer now has more money and spends part of it on things multiplying the men needed to provide him goods and services. Unemployed workers have to manage to fill those spots and it's not easy.

Have a machine that does the work of 5 men, operated by a man and part of a maintenance cycle that employs another man. The machine also works twice faster. It would be good to gain 2x from it and still pay 5 people, and the owner will get a better revenue (let's suppose this revenue is enough to pay for the machine). But no, most employeers want to gain even more. And since that work can be done by two men they only pay two man. That's when it starts. (continues)

People have been making this argument for 1000s of years but the reality is that the more productive people become, that is to say, the more work you can do with fewer people, the more prosperous people become. They said it when farms go tractors. At the time 50% of Americans worked on farms. Now about 4%. Where will people work if they aren't farming? Where will coal shoveler work when the steamship engine is replaced by bunker fuel? Blacksmith/steel mill, Scribes/printing press.

Yes, but you don't need a programmer constantly working on a machine. He does is job and then goes away. A single programmer can do the work of millions of artisans (depending on how many times his program is used). If everybody who was an artisan learned programming as the result of being unemplyed, the programmer's market would oversaturate.
