Man do I love me a Glittering Wish deck. I feel like Rhythm of the Wild is better than Temur Ascendancy as a source of haste. Making your creatures uncounterable is a real thing.
You know you've been burned by Omnath, Locus of Creation one too many times when you forget he doesn't just make 4 mana, draw a card, make breakfast, and put a land into play as an ETB.
So, Merc, you want to play with cards, but see that man over there? He has more money than you. That means that he gets to play with them and no one else does. Why? Because long ago, a man who's now old but wasn't back then decided that even though he likes you and thinks you're cute, you don't deserve this card. Ever. Now, you could get a fake, but then you wouldn't be allowed in official play. Because you lack money. Do you see the problem? Well there isn't one. Money makes the world go round so if you want to have fun, no matter the circumstance, you're gonna have to fork over some dough because nothing in life is free. Everything in Magic. Do you get what I'm getting at? It's that WotC wants what's best for society and that's for people to work for a living and so we do in our foolish pursuits of getting cards. Godspeed on your journey, Merc, and if you'll excuse me, I have to explain to some kid that though he has been bullied all through school, that maybe he's been the bully this whole time.
@@regirayquaza wotc doesn't profit from the reserved list though. @Seth You always tell Richard that with enough broken cards to back them up, any card can be good. I feel like you evened the odds this week in just such a way.
This video proves a point - turns out the best part of Garth is just being able to kill someone by attacking with it 3 or 4 times. Great example is in the game vs GW Heliod, Seth was upset about the opponent scooping to Omnath + Temur Ascendancy + Garth in play. The fact was, you didn't need to combo from there. With an empty hand, you still untap, cast Terror [or Regrowth Deafening Clarion] off Garth to kill their Skyclave Apparition, draw a card off the 4/4 token entering play, then attack for 8, putting them on a two turn clock even if they trade with the Omnath. The combo just made it so even if they drew Heliod they would lose to an infinite Braingeyser. Edit: The second game makes it even more obvious. You untap with Garth and either kill Apparition and make a 3/3, make a Shivan Dragon, or attack for 5. GW Heliod has trouble with any of those things.
Casting the cards off garth has to be done at the correct timing however. If you don't have a flash outlet, you can't cast anything other than disenchant or terror at end step.
@@JoaoCameloN no they don't, you cast them as a part of the ability's resolution so you can ignore timing restrictions. you can see seth cast a black lotus in response to a temur ascendancy trigger at 36:40

I would say do whatever it takes to make sweet things happen, if that means you have to play busted and overpowered cards sometimes to make the sweet things happen, oh well, go for it as long as it's sweet. It's better to have the broken cards to enable what you're trying to do and then just occasionally winning due to an opponent scooping instead of just getting beaten down into a loss with no chance of winning or pulling off the combo.
garth actually looked like a reasonable card in modern. not with the combo but just playing a 5/5 for 5 that is the mostest of flexable, you could put in like a 5c omnath or niv mizzit deck
12:01 The fact that they didn’t code the Alpha art of the cards for when you activate Garth on MODO is a bit disappointing. Being original frame is a nice touch, but still.
see the only thing i dont like about omnath is it just kind of feels like you win off of omnath and the garth combo is basically taking a mulligan to 5 every game lol. wrenn and six is support, omnath is a wincon
5c niv only get the dual colored pairs, so no Garth, no Dead-eye, no Ascendancy. There are actually only four card that you can get with niv, since all the removal are orzhov. There's a high chance to miss, it is absolutely out of place.
Actually, a series about playing tier decks without their namesake cards could be pretty cool. Can you make amulet titan work without the amulet or the titan? Can you make the stoneforge shell work without the mystic and equipment? Death's shadow without death's shadow? Usually you'll need to put something flashy in to replace them... though good luck playing humans without any actual humans.
The amount of times people just scooped to an unanswered omnath made me sad. They don’t realize the rest of the deck is a jank combo that they should sit through for the fun of it
