Great job at this historical story. I never heard it told that way and in that detail. Reminds me of how back when I was in High School my WW2 veteran history teacher (1980s btw) used to teach history. First day he told us to never bring our text book to class ever again. Best history teacher ever! You did not need anything but a notebook. Of course most of us kids had Grandpas that fought in WW2 that were still alive. A lot of us had our grandfathers come to class and talk about what they did in WW2. My Pappy had died just before I had this teacher, but he fought and was wounded in North Africa. Fast forward 50 years and I find out that my biological Grandfather (I was adopted) and his twin brother fought through Normandy and both were wounded twice. I just found my birth Mom this year. Weird thing is that I enlisted in the Infantry, ended up in the 82nd Airborne, but thank god after 26 years... no Purple Heart!

@buddyfett1341 I'm way more concerned with how we treat our elderly. We are currently taking away thier pain medication (saw it with my great grandma) because they are worried about them becoming addicted. Like Jesus Christ they are so old so what if that happens let them have relief from thier pain and suffering.

    • @Azagoreth
      @Azagoreth 5 місяців тому

@@kahlernygard809 Both of my elderly parents are pain pill addicts now because some doctor wanted to give them relief from their pain. They are far worse now then they ever were, those pills are extremely expensive and when they can't afford them they suffer from extreme withdraw which according to them, over shadows their original "pain" 10 fold. Addiction isn't a joke and a elderly addict is a sad sight to see. Restricting pain pills is a good thing, not a weakening of our country, you just haven't got to witness first hand what it does to people.
Our country isn't "nerfed" because we stopped selling opium to just anyone, it was simply the smart thing to do because while we have a staggering amount of talented bad ass americans, they are outnumbered 3-1 by idiots who drink bleach and eat tide pods.. so no, over the counter opium was fucking stupid.
@buddyfett1341 Yes because a few people voicing their need for the same respect you get automatically somehow erodes the strength of our nation...Or you may just be a backwater bigot who's let trans people live in your head rent free for the last few years

One of my Ancestors was in Ipswich. He was in his 20’s with 2 kids, a wife and a farm. He and everyone else was low on ammo because you could only buy ammo from roughly June - End of August when the ships came in. No one wanted to sail in winter weather and though it took the Mayflower 59 days, arriving in November…experience had taught the Captains the safest and fastest route took 1 month. No point risking atrocious weather. Anyway, he could have stayed home in Ipswich and waited to see just how badly things popped off, but instead he went riding through the night arriving before dawn to Concord Green.
Every guy who showed up instantly became a Traitor. They risked Death in the fight or being maimed. If captured on the day there would now be a $50 bounty on their head and they would be shot or hung as Traitors to the Crown, their homes burned and valuables confiscated.
The wealthiest in town had the Houses overlooking the green in Lexington & Concord and could and did write to report who was there to fight. Soon after most Royalists took a ship back to England. British soldiers were given orders to confiscate every man’s weapons which was possibly a death sentence in that without them they could neither hunt nor defend from Indians nor troops. Womenfolk devised stalling techniques to offer Officer’s a beverage while husbands got locked and loaded. The gals also came up with innovative places to hide ammo. In the greater Boston area ( where I am from) this was a life or death personal battle that affected every family.
They all knew they had no shot against the Mightiest Military in the World … but they all decided to stand up to the King and go down fighting with every means possible. I bow to our Forebears.

In other words, modern Brits claiming tea is superior are just hopped up on copeium, because even the Brits that started drinking tea thought bean juice was clearly superior to leaf water.

I love this story so much. I heard it years ago and it instantly became one of my favorite revolutionary stories. I actually named my 4Runner Sam Whittemore after that badass.

    Love your videos.
This guy is like a farmer i met overseas.
Old guy, i don't even think he knew his age, that was part of a group my unit was dealing with.
He never spoke much, but after a few months i found out this guy had fought the Russians, the "Arabs" ( as he called the people brought in to fight the Russians in the 80s), and the verious warlords that tryed to "govern" the hill tribes.
He always carred a shortened saber that his grandfather had taken off a Russian, a Webly revolver taken off the British by his dad, and a old AK47 that he had "recovered" from the soviets.
As a completely unrelated note, his grandson carred a m16.
A warning to all want-to-be tyrants, don't mess with old farmers.

What an absolute legend. I can relate to Samuel. I'm old, grouchy, I've got a bunch of guns, i hate the british and taxes, and the only thing I've ever been really gifted at is plowing. I've never been a farmer though, he's got me beat there. Also never been shot in the face, and ive only been stabbed once, he's got me beat there too.

I count myself fortunate to have HAD history teachers of FE's calibre in my formative years. I actively despise teachers that let their classrooms become bedlam and or do not instill interest in their subject with their passion.

To live to be 96 back in the day was a feat within itself, to do so after being shot in the head and stabbed more than a dozen times?! I think it's safe to say, he WAS the main character.
