- Following our previous video where I introduced jeweller’s lacquer as a way to protect plated coating, here we experiment to see the results when we place an uncoated pendant and one that is coated with jeweller’s lacquer in a bath of silver blackener. The results are immediate, the one coated with the lacquer remains gold and shiny while the uncoated one turned black and tarnished.

Would you happen to know if the jewelers lacquer would work on a piece that has been patinaed and polished to keep it from dulling ?
I can answer that because I've done it! It will keep it from changing colour. It is like a clear coat of varnish and keeps the wood stain from changing colour.

Quick question! You said the pendants were Copper plated with gold, but you used Silver blackener. So silver blackener can color gold plated copper (or just copper)? I just wanna double check before I buy some. Thanks!
Gold plated over copper is very thin. If it is solid 24k gold, then it will not darken. If it is 10k or 14k, silver blackener will darken it.

You can search online Procraft Jeweler Lacquer - has many vendors who will ship. However, you want them to be within your own country because it's hard to ship flammable liquid across border.

Sorry, I don't know the chemical breakdown of the lacquer. You may want to search PePeTools.com or your local silversmithing supply store to see if they carry a version of this.
Will this prevent rhodium plated brass from tarnishing?
if brass is plated with rhodium, it should not tarnish. You would not need this.
Where i get the jax silver blackner 🧐
Any silversmith company would carry Jax. You can't ship hazardous material across the border, so find a local supplier. In USA Rio Grande carries both. In Canada - Transcontinental Tool Co. carries both. You can also contact Jax Chemicals and find out which stores are closest to you.
Is this lacquer polish available in India which prevents silver from tarnishing?
I don't know, but this brand is for sure not available. I'm sure there is a local maker of a different brand.
