I’d like to see a shop review and description of all your shop machines, how old they are, where you got them from and how you keep them in working condition. Also maybe some machines you want/need or want to upgrade. Maybe a collaboration with Jimmy Diresta?
I don't know about the collaboration since the interest is in Potter & Sons. I'd love the workshop and machines tour. Some of the machines are amazing. I remember Heath trained with an old guy who sold him his old workshop stuff. I may have misremembered so an update would be great.
They look great. I was a bit surprised you didn't add a shank as they now have a heel and the arch is not supported by the wedge shape of the original sole?
I noticed the piece of leather on the edge of the cutting blade on the 5in1 - that’s brilliant. I’m gonna do that to mine as well to keep the upper from contacting the blade.
I have owned a pair of these shoes for several years now and wear them almost daily. Absolutely love them! I really like the look of the new soles you put on them.
I'm guessing that there have been more than one pair of shoes/boots that did not turn out like you expected because they were further gone than even you could save them. Any chances we will ever see a video on some of these? A lot of learning goes on by watching the mistakes others make or when things just don't go as planned. Thanks as always for taking us all along on this journey.
Personally i doubt it. It looks like most of their clients are loaded or have money to burn. And im sure tons of people cancel the work when they realize they are being called for more money to fix the shoe than initially discussed. Because i doubt they lock in the price that was first discussed and eat the risk.
. With due respect, prices of sole, heel and any other material used is already known to ths repairer. If some unknown / unforseen extra is needed to be done --which was not apparent at time of presenting for repair-- hence could not ve quoted in initial quote stage, then itvis reasonable that say, 10-15% extra would be additional cost.
I’ve never seen a pair of shoes or boots that y’all couldn’t make look brand new! Your craftsmanship is absolutely amazing! If you find a pair of shoes or boots that are comfortable it’s like loosing a good friend when you have to throw them away. I love the idea of taking some really used up shoes and boots and working on them to bring them back to life. Thank y’all for sharing your artistry with all of us!

But, then again, I like pretty much everything you do.

Thrifted a pair of Florshein Imperials for my husband. The shoes still have their well loved original soles. I have been saving up to have them restored with all the nails. Hammer time?
After watching you and Stridewise I have too many boots and shoes for them to wearing down! I have a pair of Helm boots from their earlier days right when they started making them in Maine by Rancourt. They have a white rubber midsole as their signature look and the heels and toes are starting to wear into it.
In my humble opinion, boots and shoes are basically the same when it comes to repair. I enjoy the artistic flair you add to the shoes but watching you guys breathe life into an old pair of boots is much more satisfying.
"Let's get some new oatmeal in here"...reality is, you have to give your audience what they want. New cork is mandatory! Not sure what is so satisfying about that stuff, but the masses have spoken. A close second for me is the hand crank sole trimmer. The sound is pure magic to the ears.
No idea if you’ll read this or not, but when I was about 15 or so I was on a luge board and going down big hills around where I lived. I was using my heels to slow down and they looked almost exactly the same as those shoes did with the little lip and all.
Not sure why, but boot videos are more interesting to watch. Either way though, they are all nice to see. I like when the videos are either sounds of the shop and the work, or like brian the bootmaker does and have acoustic guitar playing. I have an anxiety disorder, and these videos are calming for some reason
Thanks to watching your videos I now have a new hobby. I now check every thrift store looking for a pair of shoes worth sending in to be resoled and me ending up with a real piece of nashville.
I was looking up redwing derbies and considering buying them. Suddenly wonderful resole video pops out. Now I am want them more, beat them up, and get them resoled by you guys!
I wear a women's 15 and as a result I've been nursing a couple very tired sets of ballet flats along for YEARS. I'd love to send them to you guys for a resole if you do women's shoes at all. They're canvas upper Blowfish by Malibu flats.
These shoes, like a lot of RW’s, have a shank within the insole. It had one...just couldn’t see it. We probably should have pointed this out, as we’ve been asked this numerous times.
Love your videos guys. I have an older (late 80s I think) pair of Hanover wingtip bluchers that I am fairly sure are cordovan. They are not in terrible condition and at first glance don’t look destroyed but need some attention so I wasn’t sure I wanted to make the commitment. There is some sentimental value in these but on the downside they need a full resole (they have been half soled) and I didn’t know how to take care of the cordovan as opposed to calfskin leather so hopefully the uppers aren’t beyond repair. One other issue is that they aren’t that comfortable compared to my other dress shoes probably because my feet have aged lol-I wear Allen Edmonds to work most days and do fine with those. I would be interested in investing a little money into these but not sure that the amount that could replace them with new Allen Edmonds would be worth it to me unless they could become way more comfortable and there was something really neat about them as far as American dress shoe heritage goes. (Sorry for the really long run-on sentence). What do you guys think? Keep up the good work!!
Boots a n d shoes, keep up the excellent work! I've got a pair of Danners in need of new Christy wedges and a pair of derby dress casuals I'd love a double stacked leather sole on.
Wish you guys were a bit closer to Australia. I have a pair of expensive Ecco boots that I got about 14 years ago in Sweden. They had the crepe style soles and within 6 months the soles had died. I went to my local cobbler who put new soles on and completely changed the size of the boot and I never wore them again until 6 months ago and I found that the rubber had cracked. The cobbler had since moved on but his shop was taken over by another cobbler. It took 6 weeks for him to find the right type of soles but I am still not happy at all. But at least they are wearable. If you were closer I would send them to you to see what you could do.
"Sry for the audio issues." "Also, we're orange af." 😅 Love your vids! Such great handcrafting skills. Happy to get my first pair of nice leather shoes (sneaker) soon.
I just got a pair of Allen Edmonds Strands in walnut for my sisters wedding in a couple months. They're in good condition but the imprint the last guy left doesn't match mine in the slightest and if I'm gonna replace the sole I was gonna go with JR with a new stacked leather block instead of just sending them to AE to get recrafted, both of which are out of my price range at the moment. If you want to go crazy on a pair of shoes for a good cause let me know haha
I have a pair of Johnston and Murphy shearling lined winter boots that I got when I was first getting into shoes, and let me tell ya they might be the most anomalous foot enclosures that I’ve ever seen. The salesman told me that they were Goodyear welted, and they have a sticker welt, but it doesn’t actually go into the sole. Because of my wide feet, they have morphed into a really misshapen piece of suede which could be fun to try to put on a wider sole, as they would need to be relasted anyway. Also the shearling has some tears in it, and was attached to the leather lining by melting I think? I could be wrong though. An embarrassing mistake which I made was trying to gorilla glue the insoles back in because they were starting to fall out. Still I can not for the life of me tell if they are Blake, Blake rapid, or merely cemented construction. It would be a shoe detective project for sure, but it could make for an interesting video.
I wore these pots until there were holes in both soles. The shoemaker I brought to our on half soles that eventually leaked. Even with the questionably sole repair, I STILL wore them until the uppers developed holes where they flexed. Nothing better than a good pair of boots
I can honestly tell you I enjoy the shoe repairs and any content you put out .... but I really really like the boot repair videos more ... much love bros !! Keep up the great content videos

Oooo new technique to build stacked leather heels! You guys are improving along the way.... and you can really tell from your earlier videos. New methods are cool!
I don’t have an extensive shoe collection but after having some insole problems with my Thursday boots that I’ve had for years, I figured a cool video idea could be to do like an upgrade to a pair of Thursday boots given how popular they are. Maybe replace the insole with a leather insole and the outsole with real dainite outsoles, or something along those lines. Would be cool to see a 200 dollar boot be upgraded to like a 300+ boot. Great video as always gentlemen!
Yeah, my big issue with Thursday is their paperboard insole. I think they do it to hit that price and because a lot of people who buy Thursdays are coming from sneakers. Leather insoles just fit this heritage style footwear idea a lot more in my opinion. If you invest in a good leather upper that ages well, it would stand to reason that the internals should be just as durable.
@@patrickli9077 100% agreed, that’s why I stopped buying Thursday, and their constant last changes which ended up causing me to give my second pair away to my brother. Their sneakers are good though, I’ve been throughly enjoying my pair.
@@xxflamezxx1able Yep, it's kinda funny that they actually use a vegetable tanned leather insole(or lasting board to be precise) on their sneakers but not on their boots.
Every one of your resole videos makes me want the shoe/ boot. This shoe is a Red Wing Postman in copper color, rough and tough leather. Its basically the same shoe as the Postman 101 but without the green tag and black color. I’m keeping an eye out for my size
I thoroughly enjoyed watching your craft being done. I ordered two pairs of derby oxford shoes, online. Had I been able to try them on, I wouldn't have bought them. They fit great, look great but both have very heavy soles and heels. I have bought several pairs in the last year and a half and I have really taken a liking to the derby look and feel but with lightweight soles. My local cobbler doesn't seem to understand how to take the heavy soles off and replace them with lightweight soles. He said that the original soles were "molded". Another cobbler I went to barely speaks English so I'm stuck with these heavy shoes. Any help???? thanks!
I absolutely love watching your vids, very good craftsmanship is always displayed. But, I’m always left wondering how much each repair costs. This vid is a good example. Would it not be better for business to let your viewers know the cost of each job? Curious in Cali.

There are hard arch supports one can buy to take care of that issue.

My 6-year old daughter, 'Dad This is so satisfying to watch...' 😂😂 She's right y'know.
That’s awesome! 😀
Any help????
thanks!
I have some absolutely tarnished red wing chukkas that need some reviving. I would be happy to send em in lol
I absolutely love watching your vids, very good craftsmanship is always displayed. But, I’m always left wondering how much each repair costs. This vid is a good example. Would it not be better for business to let your viewers know the cost of each job? Curious in Cali.
