I just want to say, that even though they are competing against each other, its always nice to see them also 100% supporting each other in their individual challenges.
Similar to those older men who were football stars in their teens and young adult years, with the only thing preventing them from going pro was a permanent injury? The ones that sit in their living rooms and re-watch old footage of their plays saying things like, "If it weren't for this buggering knee, I would have swept house in the big leagues."?
Me opening this video: "This year I actually understand the offside rule!" Me several offsides into this video: "...So apparently I do not, in fact, understand the offside rule."
The best way I can explain it: If a pass is made to a player further up the pitch than the passer (which excludes things like layoff passes, crosses, and corner kicks), at the time the ball is passed, there needs to be 2 players (the goalkeeper counts as one) between the player receiving the ball and the end line. So 99.95% of the time during the run of play, it's just "make sure there's a defender deeper than the attacker when you pass".
The part that seems to confuse people the most is the fact that it's the players' position when the pass is initiated that matters, not when it's received.
That's the big thing to get used to. Which is why someone could receive the ball 10 yards behind a defender and it's fine, but they could receive it 3 yards in FRONT of a defender and it's offside. It's all due to when the ball is struck for the pass.
