Not to sound obsequious, but Johnny is simply a great DM. He gives the crew space to create the story themselves and then reacts quickly and seamlessly. He definitely doesn't railroad anyone, but he still guides the relatively new players to the action and keeps things moving along. I just wrapped up a two-year stint running a weekly homebrewed 5e campaign with a party of 7 and at times it was a nightmare. More often than not, it was just herding cats. Johnny makes it look easy. Mercer and Perkins are a joy to watch, but in this context, Johnny is brilliant.
My experience with being a DM I like to sum up thusly, "You enter a room that has six exits other than the door you just entered by." player "I search for secret doors!"
Johnny may not be on the same legendary tier as Mercer and Perkins, but he is an amazing DM. I think Johnny is more the standard DMs should be held to instead of Mercer and Perkins
Okay but Ellen is so freaking adorable with elf ears. Andy is rocking that eyepatch & those beads. Jane is supremely gorgeous & evil, as always. And Luke... is still Luke. (Which is great, cos Luke is great.) Then there's Mike, going in all Mike, being all Mike.
Haha especially with what we saw in the Far Cry 5 video. Pigs in Flaming Blankets.... Sausage wrapped in streaky bacon covered in some sort of flaming spicy paste, the more flaming the better. Hmmmm.... That might work
Hang on, luke had green face paint to show he was an orc, jane had red for tieflig, and ellen had elf ears. So is mike just ordinarily a giant lizard man?
-Prudence, do you want to check Lore book in your backpack for something about "Black spot"? -Naaaah, i'm fine. So the journey never begin, and they live happily ever after it this tavern. Only Corazon went missing after 2 weeks.
tbh I was seriously pissed at this. I mean a GM just shouldn't tell players what to do, he can suggest it at best, in this case I probably would've only hinted at it or let all of them roll for, idk, "listening" or something like that? (Not a D&D player obv.) I mean he already did it in the first DnD ("You follow him to the bedroom"), but this was just,... GOD. It's just really bad GMing. You don't do that. You just don't.
CPT Purrfect they’ve literally played once before. They’re trying to make an entertaining video for an audience that isn’t really interested in perfect dnd playing, they want to see the personalities of the hosts.
Dude, occasionally a GM NEEDS to lead the players in the correct direction and explain what happens, especially when playing with relatively new players. DnD is a game about fun and doing more or less what you want but it is also about storytelling and a GM should lead the players to at least attempt to tell the story in some way.
I like how everyone's treating Jane as a mobile beam cannon. Serving both as a deterrence and final solution. Tho, I'm not sure I want to be around if she "accidentally" misses her target.
I almost died laughing when the "spider-tiger", complete with questionable disguise, literally drew attention to himself by speaking up while surrounded by the group looking to kill him. Should've been an Inspiration point right there, Corazon definitely seems the type to need to be the center of attention... even when being hunted by angry pirates. Art and costumes were great, and I'm loving the back-and-forth... thank you to everyone involved for doing this.
Damn, I sure as hell didn't expect you guys to be in costumes! When Dob said "You wanna know what I've heard or not?" I completely lost it. Mostly because Johnny seemed genuinely destroyed with that line. This series is incredibly fun to watch. I haven't laughed like that in a long time
What happened to Andy's pirate character, Corazon? Halfway through the episode, he switches to play a very realistic Spider-Tiger, and Corazon is just gone! Was he eaten by the Spider-Tiger? The Spider-Tiger seems to have put on his clothes...
Zakzahn Wisdom may be my dump stat, but I think I can tell the difference between a Human Pirate and a Spider-Tiger, thank you very much. Now excuse me while I go open this door with the securely suspended piano hanging over it. I really love the welcome mat in front of it, what with the excellently designed big red X and everything.
Wow! You're so lucky! I seem to have the worst luck with money. I'm always losing my wallet. Pretty sure I was cursed by some magical whatsit when I was young. It seems like every time I go to grab my cash, it's been transmogrified into something else, like some spoons, or a rusty helmet, maybe a few iron war-hammers. Once, it was a live grenade! Luckily, I had an explosives expert in my party, she defused it real quick- just tossed it in with her others afterwards. Waste not, want not!
Jonathan Ewing I may have yelled IS IT MIIIKE at the the TV when they said someone was walking over, and then did a fist pump when he walked on screen. *cough* Didn't wake my mom, though, so it's fine.
Merrilywen: "...b-but Jane, they're uncomfortable! And honestly, after a week, they're starting to smell a bit." Prudence: "SILENCE, MERRYLWEN. THIS IS YOUR LIFE NOW!"

The fantastic artwork was done by Emilie Bendix Engmann. There's a link to her work in the description, but who's looking in the description when there's such great D&D action going on!?! I don't know her or anything. In fact, I only just visited her site now, but she does really nice work and IMO she deserves a quick shout on SOTWE or a livestream or something. I would absolutely buy a t-shirt with that character art on it.
Corezon de Leon: Guys, they're not coming to give me a party they're going to kill me! My internal reaction to the game: and have a party afterwards...?

So happy to see more D&D again, it's pure gold (even more than 10)! All your characters are amazing, but Prudence is my favorite (and I'm not just saying that so she doesn't cook me alive).
i love how they did a casual joke about a disguise of a tiger man with 6 arms and having the pirate crew casually accept it witch implies that spider tigers are a actual race/species that exist in geth
Rewatching these, I keep realizing how much of this series inspired me when I finally got to play D&D, without realizing it at the time. My second character was a golden dragonborn. Although, my dragonborn was a CE rogue who, when tasked with capturing and ritualistically sacrificing a princess (an evils campaign), had the idea of asking the pubkeeper of the pub we were at for a keg of the most alcoholic drink they have, then put the keg in our Bag of Holding. When we finally got the princess and restrained her guards, I emptied the keg on them and used my breath power. Crispy guards.
3:56 I don't know if I've ever seen such a strong reaction from a simple prop! Andy's expression is just wonderful! Great job, Johnny, taking something so innocuous and using it to such good effect!
If this campaign doesn't end with the party charging out of a pub, surrounded by dozens of enemies, à la Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, I will be astounded.
In process the pub will end up on fire, the enemies will mostly consist of angry villagers tired of Luke's singing and women Andy's character has slept with
Wouldn't it have been better if he had dusted off the lire, and sung the ballad of the lone pirate of the Bawdy Flamingo, and his plans of setting sail from boathouse No.5?
Got led here from the D&D playlist from Outside Xtra... 4 eps. in and I am genuinely impressed. This is legit stuff here. Not the only D&D stuff I've watched today, but easily the most entertaining of what I've seen today. Good on you all.
I love how they could easily have left Egbert's chair at the far end of the table so it was two on each side, but they deliberately spent the first 8 minutes with us being like "OK so Mike's definitely joining us, right?"
I feel like Jane missed a killer line when she was trying to scare guys away from the table and they thought she was waitstaff and Johnny mentioned she puffed up like Gandalf. "Do not think me some conjuror of cheap drinks!"

Finally, a video where they didn't have to digitally remove Jane's horns.
