By the way, I completely disagree with the commentator (TheGreatGonzales) on the MU being in Ness's favor. Ness can beat focus but that doesn't define the MU. Ryu simply outranges Ness and is one of the few characters that can punish him hard for aerials on shield because of fast tilts. Objectively he can kill more reliable in a head to head situation and he edge guards Ness better than Ness edge guards him.
it's pretty even, Me and ribs talked about it and they both have a +1. mu may be partially in ness' favor like 51-49 but ryu has great tools. ryu has far more worse mus like pac or mega man. literally ness' back throw kills at a late percent and ryu combos ness' hard. just ness is better at the late percents and getting ryu to approach
also I really disagree with ryu edgeguards harder than ness. tatsumaki inconsistently beats pkthunder and pkthunder is just so good at gimping and pk fire is just destructive vs ryu too. he can force you to recover continously to the point where if ryu uses up b and is right next to the ledge he won't snap it and fall to his doom. all ryu has is down smash back air down air and just trumping. not much
Well I played with Ribs for over 1-2 hours straight at Shots Fired 2 and I believe I brought him to the consensus of it being in Ryu's favor. You're saying ness wins because he's better at late percents? What proof is there for that statement? In fact Ryu has more survivability and easier confirms to land his kill moves over ness than a grab that can be punished hard on whiff. Also, Ryu DOESN'T have to freaking approach....like what? In fact Ryu is the only one with a decent projectile in neutral. Sure shaku can be absorbed with pk magnet....heal 1-2% and then possibly put in a bad position going for that. Neither character is forced to do anything unless percent says otherwise. Onto edge guarding, why the hell would you use tatsumaki to edge guard ness lmao. You're asking to get stage spiked. That's the wrong recovery to do that on. With ness, you cover the ledge from jump which he has a plethora of options to do. When ness is limited to just up b, Ryu just has to go down and body block him which in all honesty isn't too difficult to perform. Ness edge guards Ryu well too but not if Ryu returns with shory. The best Ness can hope for at that point in a pk thunder gimp which Ryu can shoryuken again after, tech (which I did not), and just flat-out avoid. Ness can't yo-yo or shory will hit him out of it through stage and pk fire really only hits if you tatsu parallel to ledge which you shouldn't do. Good edge guarding on both sides if a jump is lost. The main point comes to neutral. 1. Who's neutral wins? Ryu. Why? He outpaces and outranges the crap out of him. Ness is a air character and has some of the safest aerials in the game. Ryu's fair and Bair extend a freaking mile and stuff him out not to mention HUtilt, HJab to flipping counter is SH and FH fair approaches. Ness simply can't get in too reliably and Ryu poses a more threatening presence on stage in his zone then he does.
Hooded man I can't get enough of these vids. I try to pick up on your Ryu tech but I have a long road ahead and my range is 1 fist short... but the journey has just begun.
I was the commentator with the Kirby shirt and the hat and all that, so I guess I should just clarify two things really quick. First, people were telling me all day during the tournament that they thought I was doing a really, really good job at it. So I kept at it. Sorry if it wasn't very good. And second, the other person I commentated with is a good friend of mine. There's no ill will between us! He's got a great Ness and, I enjoyed commentating with him. I'll keep the critique in mind if I ever get back on commentary at The Break again, and for what it's worth, this was a GREAT set to commentate. Great stuff to both Hooded and Tokyo, you two put on a good show!
Bobopatch I think people's issue was the assumption of a mu and also more than likely the tone. It's surprising that tone could be such an issue but people respond to that differently. Personally not a huge issue for me but tone can be interpreted as bias or discrediting a players knowledge or skill. For the most part it was good commentary imo. 👍
+Koolaids...Ow Yeah Hahaha I can tech reliably! PK thunder has it's own special place in my "don't press any button" brain. THAT is my achilles heal :P
+Hooded Hahahaha :} The year is 20SF. Hooded dominated the professional smash bros scene. As a result everyone mains Ness to exploit his only weakness: PK Thunder.
I'd like to post a little clarification. The person I was commentating with, in the blue kirby shirt, is a good friend of mine and any hatred between us was not intentional. I'd also like to clarify that I have faced Hooded 5 or 6 times, so take that how you will.
Nice job dude, man u hav no idea how bad I want to become a ryu like u, he's got so many bad ass moves and combos. I dnt think I could ever do that lolz great match!!
That commentator hatred tho lol... I felt the tense atmosphere between them. Gj tho I tried ryu but I realized I couldn't be as good as u lol so I left
Amazing play! Can I ask how your shoryukens are so consistent? I always end up doing hadouken, and sometimes even tatsu at times in really clutch moments causing me to end up losing... Any tips??
It just takes a lot of practice. I don't have to do it anymore but I would often go into training mode and run up to the CPU and make sure I could input dtilt shoryuken 10 times in a row. If I messed up once I would start over. I wrote down a routine doing the same thing for different combos like utilt shory, jab shory, dair utilt shory, roll behind shoryuken, sour fair jump shory. It's a good way to get everything into muscle memory
as another Ryu main (obviously nowhere near the same level as Hooded), when I was learning how to Shoryuken I made myself fight level 2 and 3 CPUs. I find it slightly more similar to an actual fight than training mode, but it's low stress enough that I can still focus mostly on doing the inputs perfectly. When I could reliably do inputs against level 2's and 3's, I then moved the CPU level up gradually. After a few weeks I could reliably do inputs against level 9's, and then against other players. Also remember the shortcut Shoryuken input is to move the control stick diagonally downwards/forwards twice and then press A
+MrAxelStrider2 Honestly he was talking way too slowly about slightly unrelated stuff. He kinda needed to be shut down cause they should be talking about what's going on.
+Kenji Tomobe Don't think the other commentator needs to point it out like that it was definitely really rude you can look up videos and see well known really good commentators talk straight through a kill, or a combo and their co-commentator does not point it out like that.
Good games sensei! At 0:56 did you not have another jump? You got hit out of the falling animation of a TRSK with a back air from Ness, then you tried to tatsu back to the stage and got PK thundered, finally you went for the up B but you were too low. Did you lose your jump some how in all of this? Beautiful Ryu to watch as always. Thanks for posting. = )
Hey thanks for watching. Yeah I remember jumping into the PK Thunder so I did lose my jump. In that situation, there's no point to jump since pk Thunder will always intercept shory so I should just take the damage and save my jump
+Hooded so it would be best to try and up B into the PK thunder then? That way the shory will be interrupted so you won't fall to your death and you'll have a double jump and another up B! Huzzah!
Hey hooded I wondered if you could help me solve some problems I have with Ryu. I have trouble approaching and I've looked on smash boards and I've seen some people saying that Ryu is not ur regular smash character and you have to play him like he's a unique character. I've been playing Ryu for some months and I've got down a plethora of combos but when it's comes down to a match I struggle immensely getting stage control and taking control of the match. It's frustrating but I don't want to give up playing Ryu as he's such a unique character. Hopefully someone can give me some advice. Would be appreciated thank you.
Ryu really isn't about approaching. If you do, try to make it safe on shield. Space your moves and punish whiff moves.....most punishes can be your combos :D
The commentators on this match absolutely killed this video. No synergy, rude to each other, and talking the most booty i've ever heard. Tell them this please. Great set though, a lot of cool interactions.
lol i know but I saw you die to a no tech zone twice man, clearly you arent cut out to play smash i would recommend something like simpsons wrestling or something more that speed jsjs
Hooded i can just go in a online practice room and spam pk thunder at you while you try to tatsu back to smashvill ledge, the least fun thing to practice fo sho
That was disgusting. Aside from your beautiful Ryu, you probably should work on teching those stage spikes ;) Jk, I know you probably just messed up there. Love you hooded
you stole that dtilt ledge trap from me. :) sad thing is you were spamming it and he got up into it. Tokyo is clearly allergic to winning. I can think of no logical response as to why he would throw a match like that.
By the way, I completely disagree with the commentator (TheGreatGonzales) on the MU being in Ness's favor. Ness can beat focus but that doesn't define the MU. Objectively he can kill more reliable in a head to head situation and he edge guards Ness better than Ness edge guards him.
Lol I was just about to ask u what u thought of that comment
Hooded your better than Trela. And yea Ness just gets outdone by Ryu.
it's pretty even, Me and ribs talked about it and they both have a +1. mu may be partially in ness' favor like 51-49 but ryu has great tools. ryu has far more worse mus like pac or mega man. literally ness' back throw kills at a late percent and ryu combos ness' hard. just ness is better at the late percents and getting ryu to approach

That battlefield game. Me like
Dansih😍😍
Hooded man I can't get enough of these vids. I try to pick up on your Ryu tech but I have a long road ahead and my range is 1 fist short... but the journey has just begun.
Good shit dad! Always great watching you play!

Loved the Match. Loved Hooded. TOTALLY DISLIKED THE COMMENTATORS
Dude ur fuking sick i love you
The ending of this video shows the ultimate edge guarding.
I find it hilarious that Hooded can do amazingful combos reliably, but he can't tech reliably
:)
+Koolaids...Ow Yeah Hahaha I can tech reliably! PK thunder has it's own special place in my "don't press any button" brain. THAT is my achilles heal :P
+Hooded
Hahahaha :}
The year is 20SF.
Hooded dominated the professional smash bros scene. As a result everyone mains Ness to exploit his only weakness: PK Thunder.
I have become a better Ryu main because of you're videos. Ty so much for them. 👌👌👌👌👌
Thank you so much for watching them! :)
+Hooded I just have one question. What do u think of Ryu vs Zero suit Samus MU?
+Henry Miranda it's very even. Fast spaced and fun
Hooded Here is a trick question; Will I be a good Ryu if I try to main him?
+Joshua Telford Depends. If you want to put in a butt ton of effort and practice, then yes. Do it.
Wow, those combos, you really play wonderfully with Ryu, I would like so much to be able to do combos so well with him.
I enjoy watching good Ryu players so much
(stop missing techs tho)
Yeah, such an entertaining player to watch. That pk thunder is so hard to tech sometimes, you never really know where it's going to send you.
I'd like to post a little clarification. The person I was commentating with, in the blue kirby shirt, is a good friend of mine and any hatred between us was not intentional. I'd also like to clarify that I have faced Hooded 5 or 6 times, so take that how you will.
I wish you'd come back out of retirement :(
Nice job dude, man u hav no idea how bad I want to become a ryu like u, he's got so many bad ass moves and combos. I dnt think I could ever do that lolz great match!!
That commentator hatred tho lol... I felt the tense atmosphere between them. Gj tho I tried ryu but I realized I couldn't be as good as u lol so I left
Yeah it sounded like they weren't really fond of each other but they tryed to hide their dislike of each other
Tripping, and any other reset is overpowered af. banana comes to mind and jab locks
5:45
Commentator: "um, Tokyo's gonna have to work on his spacing.."
Ryu: "No! Get out!" (shrouyken, game!)
7:20 "Tokyo has to get him above the platform ..... never mind"
the first stock of the third match was awesome.
Amazing play! Can I ask how your shoryukens are so consistent? I always end up doing hadouken, and sometimes even tatsu at times in really clutch moments causing me to end up losing... Any tips??

+Hooded sounds like a great idea. thanks dude. I would love to play against you online sometime if its possible! let me know.

man, the first kill on the last game. my god
LOL I find it funny that every time I see a ryu die is because of a stage spike like trela (which happens to him most of the time I see his sets)
Sick combos!
Why's no one talking about how the commentator was rude to the other commentator
+MrAxelStrider2 Honestly he was talking way too slowly about slightly unrelated stuff. He kinda needed to be shut down cause they should be talking about what's going on.
+Kenji Tomobe hmm true true
+Kenji Tomobe Don't think the other commentator needs to point it out like that it was definitely really rude you can look up videos and see well known really good commentators talk straight through a kill, or a combo and their co-commentator does not point it out like that.
He was a bit curt, but the other commentator didn't need to me mumbling stuff either.
lmao
Nice set hooded you trela and 9b are my ryu idols haha I'm tryna get better with him
Good games sensei! At 0:56 did you not have another jump? that ness was good , nice man, wanna play u soon
I wonder what soap Ryu uses for his feet
2:12 You can escape that?! SureYouCan!

lol "Don't get up.. uggh waaah"
WHERE'S THE TECHS GUNNAR?? ggs tho nice
There were techs watch again Blake omg lol
lol i know but I saw you die to a no tech zone twice man, clearly you arent cut out to play smash i would recommend something like simpsons wrestling or something more that speed jsjs
hooded you my boy!!
Dat ain't Pasta :(
ya gotta tech man, thats easy tech, if its your 3rd time being hit with pkthunder in a row you need to be ready
Yeah no kidding lol. PK Thunder is just a weird thing for me to think about teching. I'm good at teching though lol
Hooded i can just go in a online practice room and spam pk thunder at you while you try to tatsu back to smashvill ledge, the least fun thing to practice fo sho

I stole it from Venom tbh lol
Flagged for rape
your ryu is hot
Pretty cool match, but those commentators smh
Great match! Worst commentators ever though...

Ugh ness is soooo annoying
True dat
+Matthew Cangelosi I hate kill throws, I find them cheap, like talk.
Nick Clark lol. But it's not just his throws, it's his dumb voice, frame 2 nair, and braindead combos that just aggravate me.
Matthew Cangelosi I feel the same way.
