Robert Bittner Not being a Ryu main doesn't mean I don't know what Ryu is capable of. Having a character use the most doesn't mean you know more than someone else who doesn't use that character as much. I know what Ryu is capable of, probably just as much as you, and I'm not a Ryu main.
If you don't use the character then you don't understand what it feels like to fa3>fa2>double nair cancel into shoryu. It's something that gives you more than just a rush.
Robert Bittner I DO know how to do that, I just don't main Ryu. I know what it feels like, I just don't main Ryu. Being a Ryu main has nothing to do with anything.
Why is _fow_ pronounced _foe_ when it looks like it should be pronounced _fow_ like in _pow_? The way I see it: _how_ isn't _hoe_ _now_ isn't _no_ and _ow_ isn't _oh_. But for some reason _bow_ is both _bow_ and _boe_, so is that the reason why _fow_ is pronounced _foe_?
Because Ryu requires a learning curve and correct button inputs. Unlike pre-nerf Diddy where all you needed was one grab to combo into everything and Bayonetta, who all you do is spam special moves. Ryu requires precision and awareness, like Pikachu.
@8:10 i believe trela knew the dair wasn't going to land just from seeing where the up tilt put fow, and was covering every option with the fair, honestly beautiful play from trela there, haven't seen that from other ryu's to date
Thank you for your input guys. I agree with the b reverse TRSK conclusion. B reverse TRSK to protect oneself from attacks after tatsu huh? That is an awesome idea. TRSK is a great shield/counter period.
I know that. What I'm saying is that there are spotlight pointed to where he *should* be, but he's nowhere to be found. If it wasn't a Saturday night, the spotlights wouldn't be on, but they are!
Requiem for a Heart how when all the stages can be changed to a straight platform? Nothing moving. Just a flat surface. I don't get it. I wish Ken got in lol or Cody .
+T SMACKS I'm fairly certain that blast zones are different on different omega versions and that is also important. also with smashville, the moving platform does change the dynamic of match a bit by offering ways out of pressure as well as the ability to mixup your landing(which is helpful for some characters who have difficulty landing on stage.) also if I am not mistaken, smashville's side blast zones are a bit closer to the stage than final d or battlefield, making Ness's back throw kill earlier.
If Ken is in smash. Ken's mobility would be faster than Ryu, he would have a Shoryuken that is stronger than Ryu with fire power like in SF and also his Tatsu won't be strong but damn multi hitting with less knockback enabling opportunities for combos. Also, his Hadoken would be weak but faster. Man we can wish is in smash or just go with Roy, his nearly identical to Ken without a projectile.
+Dan Salazar you have to input the shoryu the original way you're facing, then as soon as it comes out flick to the opposite side of the input veeery hard to do consistently
+Silly Goose Productions its a turnaround not a b-reverse since he didn't change momentum. Don't confuse people man, learn the term before you try to explain it to people who don't know.
I hate how characters like Ness can get rewarded for just chaining the same move over and over again (Example 6:36) and Characters like Ryu have to chain their moves like a normal Smash Bros. fighter. (Example 7:51 or anything that Trela does in any of his matches when killing someone) I love Sm4sh but I can see why people prefer watching Melee over Sm4sh and this video is a prime example of what I'm talking about.
Spat856 Dude thats like all the characters. Ness specializes in grabs, thats where most of his combos are. Ryu has up tilt to death, nobody complains about that.
Joseph Franc I play ryu (as a secondary) and he has utilt/dtilt/jab>true shoryuken. So basically easy kill confirms at under 90% with rage. The only difficult thing is getting the input tight but with some practice (or, you know, actually playing street fighter) it's actually not that difficult to get.
PK NEIN A spammy Ness is very punisheable. You ca really put a hurt on that mother with one whiffed pk fire. Its not like Lucas' where its safe on shield
I gotta say I'm not a big fow fan but I dont hate the guy. Sucks to see him backed into a corner so well. Idk if its a bad match up or just a case of being outplayed
+BROAdWAYexpressN Light utilt, ryu jabs upward with his elbow Strong utilt, ryu fully exerts his arm for an uppercut Upsmash: ryu shrinks his profile and does a rising strike, which is what he does here
He saved his jump. Ryu's Shoryuken cannot reach the ledge from the bottom of the screen. He did dash cancel a Focus but it wasn't necessary to make it back, Trela simply did that to mix up his recovery and get a little closer to avoid being predictable and getting gimped.
+Urasitti He did save his jump. Slow it down to 0.25 speed at the very beginning of 6:05. You can see him use a jump after the cancelled Focus Attack, while he is in the bubble. Even a true shoryu held wouldn't be able to make it from below the blast zone back to stage without scaling the stage.
ShadowLink678 Get used to biased, cause it's never going away. I don't understand why people hate bias, it's a fucking video game and we are all here cheering for our favorite. Let people have fucking fun jesus. They aren't hurting your feelings are they?
ShadowLink678 dude I saw a match of Dragon Twins against Squerk and some other character (I think it was a Samus) and they won and the commentators were being repeatedly rude and saying “Squerk is the only unboring one” and “They’re just doing the same things.” They we’re constantly putting down one half. Like commentators can say oh I hope __ wins! But the other player is super good. But they don’t need to put down the other player like thatz
+BoomerBuddie Ryu is Mewtwo's worst matchup. Abadango lost to a Ryu in Midwest mayhem, despite the Ryu being a mostly regional contender, while Abadango does well on an international scale.
+BoomerBuddie I think you're missing his point. He's saying that the Ryu is terrifying, even though he uses Mewtwo, which basically means he shouldn't be terrified at all, but he basically means that Trela is really skilled as a Ryu main. It was basically a complement to the player.
Bidou on Ryu, or any control setup where you don't have aerial c-stick, is actually very tricky. You might find yourself in a situation where a true input can happen accidentally, and what was meant to be a bair could end up in a tru Tatsumaki offstage. Plus Ryu has a terrible Perfect Pivot. Bidou Ryu just isn't good.
I never said he doesn't. That doesn't mean he's not stupid. Olimar and Snake had a super steep learning curve in Brawl, yet they both still had ridiculously stupid things to them. Of course, not holding a candle to MK, but you get what I mean.
I hate kill throws. Sure they can kill at high percentages like 150 or more, but ness's kill throw sucks. It takes no skill to kill. Same with combo grabs, all I see w/ sheik is down throw to down b wtf
Don't get grabbed lol Ness' back throw requires you to be at a specific percent...it's not like Ding Dong, or these other dumb combos that kill you immediately.
+ATARi and btw ding dong kills around 60 but requires timing. and I just want to say its really easy to rack up damage with ness. im not shitting on him bc hes my secondary but still he throw requires no skill to kill
T Warlock lol it doesn't require skill but you think racking up damage as ness is easy come play me on smash ladder RIGHT NOW as ness lol Ding dong is much easier to get but Dk's neutral is just poor so that's why he needs it because smash 4 doesn't allow air dodging to to the ground like brawl did
+ATARi when i said racking up damage is easy, i meant whenever you get a grab, and yes ik some characters can sometimes get out, but they do tons of damage
That Ryu is beautiful. I could watch it all day.
sameee
+EmblemWarriorz saaaaaame
I do, you can too
I wish they played 3 Stocks. I want to watch more..
That surprise shoryuken to end the set though
As a Ryu main, watching Trela is mesmerizing.
what does being a Ryu main have to do with anything? he's mesmerizing to non Ryu mains as well
Well knowing what Ryu is actually capable of makes this much more impressive.
Robert Bittner Not being a Ryu main doesn't mean I don't know what Ryu is capable of. Having a character use the most doesn't mean you know more than someone else who doesn't use that character as much. I know what Ryu is capable of, probably just as much as you, and I'm not a Ryu main.

Why is _fow_ pronounced _foe_ when it looks like it should be pronounced _fow_ like in _pow_?
The way I see it:
_how_ isn't _hoe_
_now_ isn't _no_
and _ow_ isn't _oh_.
But for some reason _bow_ is both _bow_ and _boe_, so is that the reason why _fow_ is pronounced _foe_?
These things keep me up at night...
That was rather poetic
well perhaps Fow is pronounced like tow as in tow truck which is pronounced as toe. yeah we ponder about the important things in life.
+Edgar Garcia "These things keep me up at night..." We can tell.^^
Ruben Outerbridge Hell yeah! XD
2 of my favorite smashers facing off. I love this.
Ryu is such an amazing character... why is he not ruling the meta?
Because he has weird inputs to use his moves
He takes skill.
Danny Freeman oh yeah, unlike pre-patch Bayonetta ....
Because Ryu requires a learning curve and correct button inputs. Unlike pre-nerf Diddy where all you needed was one grab to combo into everything and Bayonetta, who all you do is spam special moves. Ryu requires precision and awareness, like Pikachu.
Most people don't want to put the effort into maining him since they could just have a pocket Cloud and have better results instantly.
@8:10 i believe trela knew the dair wasn't going to land just from seeing where the up tilt put fow, and was covering every option with the fair, honestly beautiful play from trela there, haven't seen that from other ryu's to date
8:07 Ryu's stance when he parries is my favorite animation in the entirety of Sm4sh.
Oh god Ryu with Bidou! The man could use three of his specials while it's activated.
how does that work? doesn't bidou prevent you from doing any special moves until you let go of the special button?
+ChillTerumi You can input Ryu's specials with the A button.
***** It's still three more specials than any other character.
Bidou has no benefit to Ryu :/
+Alfredo Sauce Bidou is terrible for Ryu, simply because all that advanced tech doesn't help him at all, and you get rid of tilt stick
What is alert upside down...........yup pretty cool
R u cereal lol
LuG This comment needs more likes D;
Trela plays Ryu so beautifully
0:25 B Reverse TRSK or Bair? 15% damage that trade did to Ness so I'm thinking Bair. I think weak TRSK does 15 too though...
+Robi-Wan Shinobi It's a B reverse TRSK. Watch it at 0.25 speed to see. Bair has too many frames to trade; it wouldn't have come out fast enough
5
+Robi-Wan Shinobi Was definitely a B reversed true Shoryuken
Thank you for your input guys. I agree with the b reverse TRSK conclusion. B reverse TRSK to protect oneself from attacks after tatsu huh? That is an awesome idea. TRSK is a great shield/counter period.
+Robi-Wan Shinobi Yeah if it hadn't been Ness's multi-hit fair True Shoryu could've armored through a standard attack
Not armor, it's invincible on startup
Extraordinary match always tough to vote when both are favorites wanted both to win!
Wait a minute... Where's KK Slider? The stage is set up, but he isn't there.
+Nicholas Lozano He only shows up on Saturdays. If this tournament was on a Saturday then the internal clock was set to a different day.
I know that. What I'm saying is that there are spotlight pointed to where he *should* be, but he's nowhere to be found. If it wasn't a Saturday night, the spotlights wouldn't be on, but they are!
+Nicholas Lozano KK has a set time he comes out. The stage is set up before he comes on in the late afternoon and he goes on later in the evening.
Oh. ok.
Did anyone notice that Trela's nametag is JudyHopps?
Trela bodying people with his Ryu. Classic.
ryu is the best thing that happened to smash. and btw whassup wit erbody picking smashville all the time. gosh I hate that stage
+T SMACKS It has pretty much been considered the most neutral stage for a lot of people since Brawl. And agreed. Ryu is so dope.
Requiem for a Heart how when all the stages can be changed to a straight platform? Nothing moving. Just a flat surface. I don't get it. I wish Ken got in lol or Cody .
+T SMACKS because a final destination-like stage would give an advantage to fast or projectile-based characters.
+ChillTerumi then why add them in the first place. that was the point. no interference
Okay this was an amazing set
Trela in his prime was just a fucking monster.
fow is a pretty good ness
4:12
audible gasp from crowd
Can'tness just absorb these fire Hadoukens with PSI Magnet?
Trela is my favorite for true! ryu and ken would be proud!
I prefer Gouki instead.
Shun Goku Satsu as final smash, people.
3:30 how is Trela reversing an input shoryu?
+Dan Salazar you have to input the shoryu the original way you're facing, then as soon as it comes out flick to the opposite side of the input
veeery hard to do consistently
It's officially called a "b reverse". You can do it with any b move. If you want to learn how to do it, I think there's a couple of tutorials.
+Silly Goose Productions its a turnaround not a b-reverse since he didn't change momentum. Don't confuse people man, learn the term before you try to explain it to people who don't know.
+Yusha Da A B reverse is when you use a b move then flick the analog stick, right?
+Yusha Da Because what the Soviet Scientist is describing sounds more like a b reverse than a turn around.
I miss trela
dont sleep on dem tilts
I hate how characters like Ness can get rewarded for just chaining the same move over and over again (Example 6:36) and Characters like Ryu have to chain their moves like a normal Smash Bros. fighter. I don't like to fight Ness but as long as he doesn't spam he's fairly honest
Trela is god damn awesome
1:07 isnt that an uptilt
+BROAdWAYexpressN Light utilt, ryu jabs upward with his elbow
Strong utilt, ryu fully exerts his arm for an uppercut
Upsmash: ryu shrinks his profile and does a rising strike, which is what he does here
Trela is still the best Ryu in my book. Locus may be the the best current Ryu but he can't touch Trela. His movements and conversions are unmatched
he didn't save his jump. He air-dash cancelled with down - B to give him that horizontal movement.
He saved his jump. Ryu's Shoryuken cannot reach the ledge from the bottom of the screen.
He did dash cancel a Focus but it wasn't necessary to make it back, Trela simply did that to mix up his recovery and get a little closer to avoid being predictable and getting gimped.

He did tatsu -> FADC -> 2nd jump (hard to see cuz he's low) then up b return.
-a Ryu main
its bayo banned in this tourney?
No XD
Yay Trela is at it again
SHOORYUKEEN!! Trela is really good if not the best Ryu.
he is widely accepted as the best
*THAT'S A LOTTA DAMAGE*
now thats some biased commentary
ShadowLink678 Get used to biased, cause it's never going away. I don't understand why people hate bias, it's a fucking video game and we are all here cheering for our favorite. Let people have fucking fun jesus. They aren't hurting your feelings are they?
its their job to be unbiased and poor fow
some bias is fine and cool this is just overboard
ShadowLink678 dude I saw a match of Dragon Twins against Squerk and some other character (I think it was a Samus) and they won and the commentators were being repeatedly rude and saying “Squerk is the only unboring one” and “They’re just doing the same things.” They we’re constantly putting down one half. It was some biased gameplay in favor of TRELAAAAA
As a Mewtwo main, this Ryu is truly terrifying.
+Jake Schaafsma How does you being a Mewtwo main have any relevance to his Ryu being terrifying
+BoomerBuddie Ryu is Mewtwo's worst matchup. Abadango lost to a Ryu in Midwest mayhem, despite the Ryu being a mostly regional contender, while Abadango does well on an international scale.
Yeah but my point is that this is Ness and Ryu. Mewtwo is irrelevant to Trela's Ryu in this set, let alone that you main him. js
+BoomerBuddie xD
+BoomerBuddie I think you're missing his point. He's saying that the Ryu is terrifying, even though he uses Mewtwo, which basically means he shouldn't be terrified at all, but he basically means that Trela is really skilled as a Ryu main. It was basically a complement to the player.
lol when pink fresh could get his own saga
Bidou on Ryu, or any control setup where you don't have aerial c-stick, is actually very tricky. this commentary felt kinda Trela Biased
Trela is a beast!
17% off a fair (or nair)??!!! SAKURAI WHAT IS THIS??
+DK Switzs Bullshit, p much. I'm just waiting for people to realize how stupid Ryu is ahahaha.
+Fern Cano (Fernosaur) ?
I never said he doesn't. That doesn't mean he's not stupid. Olimar and Snake had a super steep learning curve in Brawl, yet they both still had ridiculously stupid things to them. Of course, not holding a candle to MK, but you get what I mean.
they need to tone down ryu's damage holy freakin crap.
In The Beginning He’s a buff martial artist who moves somewhat slow and even hits hard in his own game. It makes sense.
Hmmmmmm... smol kid vs martial arts master.... hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
His name is Judy Hopps, lol
Said the jaggi.
+Thekirbhunter231 “The mosasaur hater” Kelbidrome will haunt you.
+Trevor Mccord And that's kirin.
Fuck off only Rathalos haunt me lol.

I love ryu
Ha why is his tag Judy Hopps? Furry confirmed?
OMG Ryu is so fucking broken ._.
This is child abuse
such a broken ass character
since the street fighter games hes the most basic...hes kinda well rounded but cheap in a sense
Lol... ryu is hard to master my friend...
okay....elbow elbow elbow SHORYUKEN! (instant stock)
+Alejandro Santiago you'd have a case except there are 0 Ryu's dominating the meta besides Trela
because they know hes cheap, one combo can kill anyone, the character speaks for itself
+ATARi ness's back throw is just get above 100, die from side stage
+ATARi and btw ding dong kills around 60 but requires timing. and I just want to say its really easy to rack up damage with ness. im not shitting on him bc hes my secondary but still he throw requires no skill to kill
