I am so glad you put Maverick on here. one of my favorite moments at a park was doing single rider on it and getting paired a man half my age and listening to him say "holy ****" throughout the ride. He was not expecting much cause of the height but the ride blew him away.

RIP Scorpion: would've been a great honorable mention.

I'm beyond pissed about that one. Such a great little classic coaster, and it nicely filled an intensity gap between "baby's first ride on the Dragon Wagon" and "IRON FUCKING GWAZI MOTHERFUCKER" that's otherwise a bit lacking (and yes I know Phoenix Rising is a thing now, but I feel like it's a zero-G roll or two away from really being a suitable replacement).

    •  4 місяці тому +3

@@RC-hz6bn Also Blue Hawk. It's probably the second most marathonable behind Goliath because people still think it's the rough old Ninja, causing shorter lines than most of the other coasters. Well, it's much better, and it packs a mean bite.

I LOVE zippin pippin. That coaster is an air time monster, and it’s a yearly tradition with my family. You’re right about Batman- I don’t even ride Batman clones anymore because it’s too painful.
I think another to go on this list should be Revenge of the Mummy at Universal Studios. If you know it’s a coaster then sure it’s not as surprising. But think about people visiting universal for the first time. By the time they get to mummy, they’ve gone on about 6 motion simulators in a row and are just expected another. Then BANG it’s a rollercoaster and it feels fast. That was my experience with it, and I loved it.

  • @DougGlendower

The BatClones are neat because they give completely different left and right side rides. If you're on the inside of the rolls, it's snappy-quick but not that intense. If you're on the outside it seems lazy but the forces are way stronger due to the increase in centripetal force.

Maverick and Raven are in my top 30, those coasters are amazing. Batman clones are pretty fun, yeah I see how that’s all bite and no bark. I haven’t worked on my family coaster list yet but I could imagine Flying Turns, Sierra Sidewinder and Reptilian there. 👍

Id definitely put Coaster at Playland on the list as well.
Oldest coaster in Canada, a small woodie, but has the most ridiculously open buzz bar and obscenely intense ejector airtime. It was like being Double-Bounced on a trampoline. Im still shocked they never had a major incident with that thing.

I’d honestly say Maverick is number 1. But to each their own.
It looks like a kids ride but it’s insanely intense.
Batman rides were famous from when it debuted, hence it having a bunch of clones and inverted coasters have always been known to be intense.
    They have bark and bite.

The only B&M invert I’ve been on is Vampire at La Ronde and amongst the 58 credits, this thing is near the top. In the front row, it feels like I’m on an out of control fighter jet. I’m the back, I’m literally fighting the g-forces to stay awake! These Batman clones are so crazy it’s amazing!

I would definitely say Rutschebanen at tivoli gardens. I expected so little, it's the third oldest coaster in the world and has a person manning the brakes, it can't be that intense or that crazy. It is an absolute airtime machine, you spend so much time on every drop getting thrown out of your seat. 100 years old, biggest drop is just over 40 ft and it doesn't hit 38mph, but it is amazingly energetic and wild.

Just came back from a trip to LA and was able to make it to Knott's Berry Farm and I hard agree on Sierra Sidewinder making this list. I'd heard a couple of folks mention that it was better than it looks. Took a couple turns and our cart spun just right, thought I was gonna get flung to the top of Jaguars pyramid. Highly recommend a ride or two on it (Ghostrider best in the park though)

I'm surprised you didn't mention Raptor at Cedar Point. It is one of the most intense coasters at that park, and well on par with any of the Batman clones. That's one I can only ride a couple of times in a row as I get too dizzy. Maverick is in intense, if you enjoy being thrashed around.
For me the ultimate "sleeper" coaster is Skyrush. And that is one reason why it has been my #1 since it opened. When I first saw it I thought it was just a run of the mill out and back hyper. Everything from the color of the track to the serene location over the creek hinted at a fairly mellow ride, perhaps like a taller steel version of the Comet. And then I took my first ride on it at night. I was just totally blown away; I had never felt like I was going to be ripped right out of my seat on any coaster in the way that I had on Skyrush. It hauls (almost launches) riders to the top and once you are thrown over the drop it never lets up. The back seats are insane...

I think Turbulence at Adventureland on Long Island would fit this list. I never expected the spinning to be as intense as it was, especially because it's in such a tiny park. The other coasters there and most of the other rides there in general don't hold the same thrill level at all. It's so tight and close to the ground and the spinning stops abruptly at the end. I'll admit Turbulence tore me up.

Space Mountain at Magic kingdom should have been on this list. It has very modest stats of less than 30 mph, drops less than 30 feet tall and only 90 feet tall but it packs a surprising punch in the back row the drops give shocking pops of ejector airtime that you don’t expect from a Disney coaster. It’s also got very strong laterals.

Put Jet Star 2 indoors, in pitch black with no lighting, and you have Alton Towers' original Black Hole. It was incredible.
