Lancer EVO 1 | Origins of the original Lancer Evolution | JDM Master

- The first Lancer Evolution used the 2.0 L turbocharged DOHC engine and AWD drivetrain from the original Galant VR-4 in a Lancer chassis and was sold in GSR and RS models. This engine was also used in the Mitsubishi RVR with the Hyper Sports Gear trim package, and the Mitsubishi Chariot Resort Runner GT. The RS was a stripped-down version that lacked power windows and seats, anti-lock brakes, a rear wiper, and had steel wheels to weigh approximately 70 kg (154 lb) less than the 1,238 kg (2,729 lb) GSR, ready for racing or tuning. The RS version was released with a mechanical plate type rear limited-slip differential (LSD). The GSR came with all of the conveniences of a typical streetcar, including a digital screen climate control system. It came with Mitsubishi's 4G63 engine producing 247 PS (182 kW; 244 hp) at 6,000 rpm and 309 N⋅m (228 lb-ft) at 3,000 rpm.[5] 5,000 of the first generation Evolutions were sold between 1992 and 1993.[6] Top speed was 228 km/h (142 mph). The GSR version of the Evolution I was the only Evolution Lancer released with a Viscous Limited Slip Rear Differential (VLSD). The subsequent Evolution Lancer models all featured rear mechanical plate type LSD's.

No one does it better! Best information of JDM history on the WEB. Love the vids! Please continue to treat us with this information!
Yes, i Agreed to this one
Honestly this guy is a national treasure
when i see the old lancers i think about jackie chans great movies
Thunderbolt 1995 evo3
@@markc1456 and 'Who Am I' - Evo IV
Man of culture; even that was the 1st movie with JDM cars related I ever watch way before the 1 F&F came in, and the last one to see alongside with my grandfather (RIP).
when i think about mitsubishi gto vr4 1991 i think of jackie chan and shuto kosoku max time trial 1996 one of the street racer drive that car
Nearly Every Polynesian kid in Nz loved Jackie, and he made those Monstabishi's iconic for many of Us lol
The Evo 4 will always be my favorite Evo, but I admit, that Evo wouldn't exist without the original.
Mine is lancer evo 3 and tommi makinen edition evo
@@olavofernandes7286 evo 3 is nice
my fav is the evo 5, since it is just a better evo 4
the Evo 4 is my favorite as well. Dreamed of converting my 97 Mirage into one, but had some sense knocked into me early on. I would have convert to AWD, swap from the 4G15 to 4G63 and convert to manual transmission. At this point, in a few years it might be eaiser to just import an actual Evo IV into the US. I probably never will, but it’s great knowing the possibility is there. I love all generations of the Evo though.
5s my fav
I love your Mitsubishi red jacket!
Thai Lee would of cost a fair bit too
Same! I need it!
Jesus Christ, I feel cold from just watching this video. You earned yourself a subscriber. Nice video btw!
I felt relief in the shots where he was inside the car 😂
@@rudymwaurah LMAO ME TOO
That front end has grown on me over the years. I used to not like these cars before evo 7 maybe 6. But over time they have grown on me and I appreciate them for what they are. I wouldn't mind having one in my collection
@@bwgti ?
Yeah, I used to love the Evo 3 aggressive design but in time I started to love the 1 and 2 for the simplicity.
@@bwgti that's more of where the question lied, more of confusion as to why someone would make a douchebag comment like that. But I saw it was dumb at the beginning so just left it at that. Have a good one ✌
@@MyLifeAsLouis 3 is awesome too
@@popomomo12 - All true. But you are the bro talking about your car collection as if everyone reading is familiar with it.
I am the very proud owner of 2 Evo 2’s and I love them!
You live in JP? I want to get one in the states all the importers really hiked up the prices😬😔
Care to donate one? Lol
Live in the uk, only 13 left registered on the road here, bought the first one at 23 in 2003, then 5 years later I started looking for another clean one, the hunt took me 10 years and over 6k miles travelling to look at 8 others until I found the one, and home she came with me to join the family! 11 days later a Lexus driver got confused between the 2 pedals in her car and rear ended it whilst parking!!!! Unfortunately she has been sat in the workshop since as we piece by piece, panel by panel pull her apart, straighten and and refit as much of her original parts as possible until her former glory is returned, and at the same time she will be treated to a nice fresh engine build and some subtle toys! With the kind of passion involved with owning and maintaining two of these girls, it would probably be easier to give up one of my kids than one of my girls! Lol
Braving the weather is t he sign of a true JDM master.
I owned a completely stock Lancer Evo 2 GSR back in 2010. It only had 63k kms. It was the second car I owned. I loved it!! I bought a set of Sprinthart cp-fs for it too.
I know this comment is a bit old, bought I just bought a Lan Evo II RS as my second car too 😂
Your commitment to keep making these videos during any weather is why you are my favourite channel! the Lancer Evolution is one of my many dream cars, ever since i saw that evolution III in initial d with those gigantic fog lights i knew i wanted one and the evo 5's boxy styling is to die for, thanks for another informative and in-depth video!
Pink Pyro wth how get sign on your name
@@brrrberry5.7s25 I'm subscribed on their membership which you have to pay monthly.
Evo iv for me too love that iconic boxed out shape RS EVO IV.
Same dude. It was the early gran turismo games that put me on to them but the affair continued when I watched initial d. I remember being so excited when they finally announced the evo 8 was coming here but I couldn’t afford that in my late teens. Now over 40, I finally made the dream come true and purchased a legally imported Evo IV.
Sometimes, the UA-cam algorithm gets it right. I was searching for vids on subie history when one of your vids popped up. I subbed on the second vid. Very informative and well laid out. These are awesome!
This guy is born to review these JDM cars on UA-cam. Great voice, great presentations, great attitude and humor. I hope you get to 1 MIL subs
Your car channel is so much better than any Big TV Documentary has to offer!
This is where is all began, the might EVO! I have so much love for these machines!!
Thanks for the video, great job!
Thanks for taking the time to show and mention all of the details, thank you both
I love this channel so much. I get to learn so much from these videos.
Your videos are some of the absolute BEST! I look forward to these when I get off work and they get me motivated to continue building up my Subie
Whenever I watch your vids I always am left wanting more, these are the best car information videos that are out on UA-cam rn, keep it up!!
thank you so much for weathering (no pun intended) the wind and rain to give us such a great video.
I'm such a fan of your informative almost documentary style videos regarding my favorite automotive manufacturers and models...
Thank You so much for your videos. Even in cold conditions... it's clear your passion and your output is so good: a rare combination of entertainment WITH instructive material. Go on! And thanks again for your - very appreciated - efforts!
Even after a year of this video posting, it's still a relevant point of information, and knowledge in regards to classic JDM automobiles. Thank you JDM Masters for presenting this.
I love my EVO IV just as much as your Videos about EVOs❤️
Thank you for the effort guys, what a terrible weather... what a true JDM legend, still in 2020 we adore these machines!!
This channel is pure gold
Great video, thanks 🙏🏻 for putting up with the cold weather and sharing.
I discovered the Evo very late in it's life, but I will NEVER be parted from my GenTen Evo!
Outstanding video!!!
This has got to be the longest UA-cam video I’ve ever watched, but I’m so glad I did. Fantastic. Just so much knowledge
I love this channel. Thanks for all these JDM infos 😍

Lovely episode again, lots going on.
From the steadily growing row of cars next to the R35 GT-R in the background to the cameraman casualy cleaning the lens mid interview and a sh*tload of info on the car.
Keep it up! :-)

JDM Masters, is the only channel i care about when profiling Japanese cars. No fluff,no lame played out car music you hear all the time, just facts and lots of information about the heritage of the companies we all love. Thank you JDM MASTERS 🙇

Best jdm car Chanel
At first I only liked the Evo III and above, but you changed my mind, great video, amazing car
Very informative! Never knew there was a 'base' Lancer 1.8 GS-R! Pretty cool! Would be great if ever you find one and review it!
Ppl go on and on about Group B, but it was Group A that brought us some of the best high volume road cars that were ever made.
My most favorites evo:
Evo 6.5 TME RS
Evo 9 wagon
Not even the weather can stop JDM mastaaaaaa💪
Oh this episode is gonna be good! Already mentions of my car too!
Wow this went in depth Holy cow. Looking at an Evo II in a few days
Fascinating, love the evos.
I love all the detail and history that you explain of JDM cars it almost feels like a history channel show! where are your gloves! You have a hood/hat but I understand it's windy and wouldn't prolly stay on! Be prepared and take care!
Just one word : PASSION...!...👍🏾
I really want to thank you for taking the time to make this type of videos I have been a Mitsubishi Enthusiast since 2000 I am in to DSM style turbocharged layouts you have informed me more than you can understand about how the stuff has evolved I would appreciate if you would do something like this explaining the 180-degree layout what is compatible what is not I have done tons of research myself I have realized that it can be done with the block not the head
the level of detail on these videos are epic! one more sub :)
Everybody and their Aunties in New Zealand knew somebody who owned an Evo Lancer, 1, 2 &3 (being the most Popular besides the VR4 & ZR4) I still like them lol Ppl have done conversions with the 4g63t into the rwd Lancer EX, rwd & fwd Sigmas, Cordia & Tredia. Oh and the Mirages &Cyborgs...even the odd L300 Van 🤣 just shows how popular this Engine has been lol
_And so a legend was born_
Love the performance.. I have 96 here. New fan.. :-)
My fav Evo was the 3rd one, I mean look! IT SMILES AT YOU!
Right now I own a Mitsubishi resort runner gt it has a 4g63 factory but my all time favourite is a evo 4
iconic car from mitsubishi, great & perfect
Watching live from Uganda 🇺🇬
I have an evo x but my dream would be to own the first evo! Must be so raw😍
This EVO1 is currently for sale. 😉
Why don't you guys create a bunch of good quality ralliart jackets and pit shirts, I'd buy one if you ship
can be found for pretty reasonable prices around ebay. Unlike Nismo and for example Mazdaspeed merchandise the Ralliart, STI/PRODRIVE and TRD (nowadays especially toyota Gazoo Racing) stuff got distributed far and wide due to the popularity of rally racing in europe.
i wish mitsubishi company watch his videos and ramake or restock these ralliart jackets. it is really hard to find one now medium sizes or large 😕
Cierto , espero que saquen de nuevo esas chaquetas estas chivas hey!!!
Awesome job👍
This is a wonderful channel.
jay a great guy really loves his cars served in the navy with him humbled to know him
Love your videos. Amazing car.
Excellent video
The Evo 1, A Legend in my eyes to this Day
That gps though lollll!! Thats was very detailed and learnt a lot i didnt know abt these vehicles! Thanks guys
Edit, Japonik needs to pop up on cam for a sec or two! Wave or something loll
That Mitsubishi Jacket is🔥🔥
I dont recognized this before number 5. It was the movies from
Jackie Chan which had taken my attention about the Evo's.
And he made a lot movies since then. In Europe we had at this
time Saab to fill the gap with special cars; Not awd cars but also
very successful in racing and rally. Great footage as usual!
These videos are super informative, love them. Also the documentation and those books are super in-depth, could you put the ISBNs on the description? I doubt they're translated but who knows
Best looking EVO in my opinion
When I look at Mitsubishis actual cars, I don't know if I should lough or cry. They just betrayed their glorious history.
Love the car. Love that jacket even more.
Lancer Evo.3 is my fave by far
That jacket looks soo cool.
that high wind, make this video more interesting :D
I reaaally wish that we would have had access to the great cars like gtrs evos stis etc. I’d love to have a evo5. Any gtr. The Japanese cars of the 90s truly changed the game.
hope you review all 10 series of mitsubishi lancer evolution. a very good information
This thing was part of an era where Mitsubishi made amazing cars that were not only lighter than their competition but had more power too. It's like seeing a Type R with 450hp stock and weights less than 1550kg. If Honda ever makes a "lightweight" hybrid Type R that's also affordable like this EVO of the past.
just a great channel
Damn these videos are sooooooo good
