This is part 3 of our carving lessons in the intermediate playlist. this time we go over sgraffito work, something that usually comes naturally when you mix any carving technique together with underglaze and a contrasting color palette.
and this video will give a very small history lesson on what sgraffito is, where it came from, and how it was used.

( as a side note the entirety of The Grecian artwork you see on a regular basis is not entirely made with solely sgraffito but instead the images are outlined, coloured in ( with slip / underglaze or a different color) and the sgraffito technique is used to add most details)

Yo! Watching these videos are satisfying as heck, dude. And, as always, I'm really honored to hear my music featured in your video.
The music is top-notch for my channel. I seriously have a folder full of music in my computer that I use on a regular basis. You're actually my intro music.
I love how Hsinchuen Lin has gone hard on sgraffito lately
Love your demonstrations! Your previous ones and these! Thank you so much for doing this work, I do pottery as well, and I look at your videos for inspiration!
One of my favorite techniques! I love do this all the time💕
Thanks for all the tips and tricks you provide
I love the information about underglazes. Thanks so much and keep the wonderful content coming!
Thanks Donte! Great video! I appreciate that pic inserted, so we could see what the pot grew up to be!
Greatly appreciate your fun tutoring. Thanks.
I have really enjoyed watching all your videos! I might get to try your techniques in another week or two!
You give me confidence!
Thanks for such great videos!!!!
That is so cool and awesome to do Dante 😀
These are the underglazes I use, I love them!
THANK YOU FOR THIS POTTER'S TIP!!!
I love your videos but really wished you had shown what the second cup with the 2 colors of underglaze looked like after firing. I have a very tough time visualizing this and "final product" examples are very much appreciated.
This is awesome! I'll be doing this in class next time
Thats cool
I'm a total newbie who has always wanted to do pottery. I would love to see a video of a pot taken from throwing to taking out of the glazing kiln. So many show various techniques in stages, but I would love to see the whole process. Thanks for sharing! I'm a new subscriber.
Thank you! Im new to pottery- I'm assuming your greenware is leather hard at this time? How many days dry time did it take to get to this point?
Can we also paint the top of the cup with the underglaze?
What did the last cup look like finished?
was your cup bone dry or more leather hard🤔?
Just for clarification, use the fundamentals (Mayco) on unfired work... I can still glaze and fire to cone 6 after it has been bisqued with no loss of color?
Yup. I use it on bisque all the time. Technically it says not to but it still works. It makes it easier to because I don't have to worry about damaging the product
@@EarthNationCeramics Sorry, I mean, if I use the fundamentals before I bisque, bisque as normal, then I glaze and fire to cone 6, will the original color of the fundamentals remain?
My underglaze cracked😟whhhhyyy???
Hey Dante.....I LOVE your videos. Going forward would you consider using PG language so I can share with my high school students? Or put a rating on your vids so I know ahead of time?
I know. Lame. But I always use your videos when possible. The only time I cant is when you make somewhat inappropriate jokes or swear. :)
No dude, if the hot people are worrying about their bodies and you're worrying about your body; by process of elimination, you're hot
Bloody lumberjacks!*TM... or wait... is it possibly the beavers?... damn it's confusing being Canadian...
too fast!
