- From the DVD bonus features - the inspiration for the famous Fawlty came from the real Torquay hotel Gleneagles, and its manager Donald Sinclair...

I remember reading one Sinclair story where the hotel advertised a dance ball one night. When the guests went into the ballroom that night, there was no dance ball, and one of the guests asked Sinclair about the alleged dance ball, and Sinclair threw a fit, walks into a closet, hauls out a record player and a collection of record albums, dropped everything on the floor and stormed out of the room.
I'm a little surprised nobody's opened a Fawlty-inspired hotel in Torquay where guests could be given the full Basil treatment. It's maybe a decade or so too late by this point, but I could see that gimmick working back in the day.
There’s some places that do the Fawlty Towers dining experience my aunt and uncle did it once and they said it was so fun
They did!
@@TheRidgeChannel Well that makes me very happy.
Gosh I love the vibe of Britain in the 1970s and 80s. Even though I never lived there, it's an acquired nostalgia for me.
Fawlty Towers is one of my favorite Britcoms.
I’d love to see those scenes live, hahaha.
Don Sinclair had probably gotten mentally screwed up during the war.
The suitcase story seems to be embellished in this telling. Eric idle and Cleese say that Sinclair just put the suitcase behind the wall due to “staff problems”
5:21 lock him in the flat,
Spinetinglingly epic.
Lol 😂 how did he ever get any guests ?! But as we all know comedy is exaggerated
Its not a question of getting guests really, is it? The hotel looked beautiful. Its about getting guests, coming back lol
When was this documentary done?
According to Google it was 2001
Half the people in this are making shit up. John Cleese himself has told the stories about where he got the ideas from.
You thought Basil Fawlty was rough? Wait til shariah law arrives to Britain to all of it's glory.
Haha, you're a lunatic. Thanks for that, I needed it.
.............ok..............
Zionists' martial law first.
Racist fool! Can't even write a proper sentence!
