Yes, I made yet another one of these "Tool Live DVD" things. The audio is my processed matrix of both audio recordings by LeifH and MeddleEarth. Huge thanks goes especially to dickblitzky and Chris Jacobs for their 2 amazing video angles of Tool's Halloween concert, please subscribe to them!

Love when the guy realizes it's opiate and tells "OH SHIT"
Those two clicks of the bass
+Daniel Platt I love the harmonic sound he does
That guy was me. I marked the fuck out when I heard that opening Line.
Jim Crow That just made me feel like a part of the crowd. Be proud. You gave me goosebumps during a tool performance.
Did anyone ever tell you that you look like Steve Harvey?
There you have it, Opiate 2 version released in studio almost 7 years later. Incredible song.
This version of the song is so much better than the normal studio version. These guys are fucking nuts when it comes to extending/reimagining their songs.
I and the good news is, the band stated they will be recording this new version of the song in the studio.
The latest version “what you
Need is someone strong to use you” and “ we both want to divide you” could not be anymore perfect 👌🏼! Best song by best band EVER! Never get tired of seeing Tool Live except for the one shitty part! The end!
Opiate² 3/1/22
@@str1ve305 oh man. I was just supposed to give same update to all these few years old comments ahahah. hell fckn yeah!!! now we will have this “30 years of progressive” updated version of opiate, which was too good to play by 20something year old dudes back in 91st 😱
@@metalkek420we're almost there! I hope they record the extended versions of stinkfist and jerk off as well one day.
I've listened to this live version so many times now that "we both want, to take you to dinner" is just the normal lyric now
"We both want... to take you to dinner."
I thought he was going to say it again.. thought he did bc of censorship reasons.. he did say rape at the end right?
@@donsal.t.1765 listen to it at 9:38.
since it is already one month ago you asked.. listen from 0:00 and wait for it
yes, yes he did
@@andy0815123
Oh when he says rape?
I personally love it from 3:20ish and on
@@donsal.t.1765 yes, that is also what I hear
I find it so interesting how this band has evolved since the opiate album! Their song 7empest from their new album really comes full circle for me, using everything they’ve learned over the years to make a truly epic song. I listen more to their live music, listening to the old songs that have now been reworked.
Probably one of the most underrated TOOL basslines ever. Just watch how Justin has playing every single note of the song.
Those aren't Justin's bass lines
@@haydn995 he never said they were lol we all know Paul wrote em
Yes this bassline is pretty unique but it works with the song very well.
Justin's intro is some real awesome shit!
reminds me of the schism intro
Rex Ross yes that's very true. Two riffs that are the same length and are slightly different, then a final bit to end it with. I agree.
I feel that justin definitely took inspiration from his own riff
Rex Ross It’s not similar to the Schism intro in any way.
@@rexross6808 paul made this riff btw
My 7th Tool show. I rode my bike to it.
The setting of the venue was great but the number of people was a real challenge. They must have over sold it. I normally can manage my way near the front but no way this time. I haven't been that far from the stage since 1988. Monsters of Rock at L.A. Coliseum.
I remember being taken by their performance of Opiate that night.
Super grateful ToolArchive posted this. I was counting the days.
Pete DeLorean should’ve done what I did before primus I walked all the way around the crowd to stage right and got to the front in front of Adam it was easy. After the show it was insane it was like the walking dead could barely move your feet and they only had like one exit so people were knocking down the fence
where’d you park your bike in all that
WTF. You were at the Colisuem in ‘88. God damnnnnn.
@@JohnnyGingy I should have tried that! My favorite costume was a Travelocity Gnome.
@@HBInHD. Van Halen. Kingdom Come. Dokken.
Adam Jones dressed as Tool's guitarist, Adam Jones.
Kyle Woah. Just noticed
Thats who it was supposed to be ohh
@@joshieboi8082 man they were exhibiting celebrating led zeppelin, in fact Danny reminds at John Bonham and Maybard at Robert Plant. If you look on others live performances of this concert, you should find Adam dressed as Page, not completely sure about the double neck guitar though
Despite that, this performance is mindblowing
This is the greatest comment of all time
@@tonymeli8118 they were all dressed as zep, hes making a joke that Adam Jones just looks like Adam Jones, try to keep up
4:38 beautiful synchronization between Justin and someone in the crowd :3
Caleb Kious that was sick. Never caught it until reading this
Lmao what a coincidence
Sick.
I think he was literally saying hello back.
I loved the wave of “oh shit” when the crowd realized the opening of Opiate
5:45-6:33 Adam's solo is probably my favorite part in this whole thing. He's hitting the note, and the pinch harmonic at the same time, creating this really cool feedback effect. Amazing.
That middle breakdown part, and how it builds back up again is God damn amazing
This was the song that opened the door to Tool for me.
I know they always jam in their songs live, but damn this is my favorite jam they've ever done. It's what keeps me coming back to this video. I was there and when they played it I don't think I've ever vibes as hard as I did during that part. Godly.
Todd Webb I FEEL YA BROTHA!!!
Todd Webb this was all made up on the spot?
It was more than likely rehearsed. Idk.
@@toddwebb8196 I think only the stops and starts were rehearsed. Like only the amount of bars they would jam for. Everything in those bars was made up on the spot.
Lmao it's all rehearsed. Tool doesnt improvise, they arent a God damn jam band
Shades of Pneuma in the jam part. Fuckin love this version!
exaaaaactly
same thoughts when I listened to it
that dude at 0:53 knew shit was about to go down
True! I have a compilation of live audio tracks and I love it when I hear "Wait, that's not Opiate. That's new!" or "Yeeeeah! Adaaaam!"
Danny with died hair color and a dark mustache...of course, look at Maynard. always an awesome show from all these guys.
my favorite beyond any doubt. i'm 65 years old and can do some serious bang'n.....since 1991 when they came out to us, i'm
following them til the end. my son(37) and i seen them in biloxi ms. 1/27/24 it was a fuk'n outrageous show that i will never forget !!
continue on guys, i got many more years to appreciate your work. looking forward to the next album.
Usually when older bands cover their oldest songs I always get hesitant the song won’t age well or the singer won’t be able to sing in the same range when they were younger, but Maynard really killed it on this one. I think his voice sounds so beautiful and smooth, I might even like it better than the original recording!
Music will never get this good again, and I'm sticking to that. I'm really glad I was born in the time period that Tool was out. Dunno if I'll ever get to go to a show though.
I NEED THE FULL SHOW OF THIS KIND OF QUALITY ASAP. I LOVE YOU TOOLARCHIVE!
the crowd singing along to the into was the best feeling ive ever had
This version is absolutely amazing. Also great footage and sound!
a year ago today when this video was first posted, i found this video with only twelve views. i was soo fucking excited to see it because the sound and visual quality were sooooo damn fucking good!!!! Immidiately i ate an eighth of golden teachers and turned this four minute jam into a two hour long adventure. What a trip. Great experience. Great song. Great video. Great band. Great Channel. Thank you Tool Archive
Aaaww dude I can't thank you enough for making these awesome videos for us unworthy beings !
You even took the time to line up the cuts with the music at the end ! If I ever meet you in person you will be hugged
3:54 Danny Carey realizes he left his front door unlocked
Lmao
This has always been my favorite TOOL song! Thanks for posting! 🔧
Although these lads have written masterpieces over and over again this is their best song and best version of it. I love it ❤
Ive never heard Maynard talking to his bandmates on stage before 😆
Subeein Suresh true they seem loose on this one ha love it
It happens a little bit but not to this extent
Well he had to introduce Bonzo. Justin intro simply to a badass old song.
First time him saying “Justin”
The former bassist Paul used to have a microphone so MJK and Paul could poke fun at each other. I thought it was cool
Robert Plant has aged well.
+Grocery Bonham's taking his own death pretty well too!
too bad he chickened out on the fry scream
@@Denature1020 he didn't chicken out, he absolutely raked his voice when they recorded ticks and leeches, ever since then he's been exceptionally careful with not pushing his voice
So has bonzo
I really hope they'll release the new studio version of this song they recorded a while back. Hopefully it will sound like this, the intro and the middle extended part are awesome.
Maybe one day
Well well well what do we have here
😮
guess what we have it HAHA
This aged well!
I like how they extend song just by adding Jamming session in the middle
the art in the jam its just fucking amazing
"Oh Shit"
+Brandon C Ahahaha imagine his face when he realized it's Opiate :D
+CrazyLPguy yes
+Brandon C yeah that guy said it all
Man... how amazing sounds this wal bass...
Music will never again be this cool. Well maybe if tool releases another album...
April my friend..... April!
Mr. Fresh I’m so excited. I’m definitely not as excited as the other fans because I have only been a for a little over a year, but that year has consisted of a lot of Tool.
Mr. Fresh august 30th!
Dan Johnson I’d like to inform you that the new album drops in 23 days😌 Fear Inoculum ‼️🤟🏼
You're in luck!
This was such an awesome show. Y'all had to be there :) This song was great too cuz throughout the jam you kinda forgot they were doing opiate right in you face... So its like you got to see it twice :)
Lol right? This concert was just insane.... I've never had my hair stand up when hearing the first few notes of a song, but this set opening with No Quarter for the first time live in 18 years was in-fucking-credible.
What a band. Everyone song they play takes me away to a better place.
Justin's intro just makes me feel all the good feelings in my private places
Something tells me Bonham would have been in awe of Carey. Just sayin.
Can't help but think of Layne Staley every time I hear this
They just announced the new video and extended version of opiate. The teaser has Justin’s goofy intro.
About fucking time.
The drums at the end sound like a goddamn thunderstorm rolling in 🔥🔥🔥 one of my favorite Tool songs of all time 👏
I am just here because they finally released this in studio version. After we all thought that we could only be blessed with this music live, they gave us a gift. I fucking love this band.
RIP Layne Staley
Everytime I listen to opiate,I remember Layne.💗💗💗
what is this about? what am i missing?
@@billyalarie929 type " Layne staley tool" in search bar, Layne played opiate with them in their early years, I believe in Hawaii
@@bugrakocak6792 oh.
Yeah I know about that but...?
We gonna go on an Earth video and say "RIP Kurt cobain" cuz they were bros too?
Just weird to me, that's all.
It was Hawaii! Kualoa Ranch on Oahu. Great show, very visceral! Everytime I hear Opiate i remember that day! Not weird to me, RIP Layne.
Batman it is an absolute honor to meet you sir
talk about a blast from the past! thanks for sharing
The stage looks like a space ship. That landed the music fuels its power .. 🤘🏻 Great video
Tools new album got bass album of the decade !!
you've outdone yourself toolarchive! so well put together! cant wait for the full length :D
We went to see tool. Palooza 1992 we dropped acid early in the morning. Smoked hash with fishbones trumpet player. Tool headlined the second stage outdoors. They played the entire opiate album because that was all they had at that time. That was all we had. I talked with Danny. Maynard was so full of himself
everytime I hear the slow part of opiate I imagine the sky breaking away into vortex and all lost souls floatong imto the air
Oh
Oh
Oh
Ah
Oh
Still waiting for this to see an official release. They've recorded it!
SOON!!! MARCH 1ST OF 2022!! Opiate²!!!!
Hello from 1st March 2022 !!
Such a fucking rad show. The setlist was insane.
What a performance!
Also I just realised Adam actually moved onstage!
yeah its fuckin rick grimes at bass!
+locxha96 No that's Justin. Rick Grime's is always cosplaying Justin.
+locxha96 Hahaha, I gotta play a show, stay in the house Coarl.
+locxha96 THOUGHT THE SAME FUCKING THING!
Who do you think got whacked by neagan lol
Harry Manback...after which: He had his balls smashed.
"you're not gonna do a goofy intro?" says the most goofy dressed Maynard
"Justin... uh, you gonna start it normal?? Or have you got some kind of goofy intro" - MJK rofl dude loved tool since middle school. i think i did a good choice.
And now they've released Justin's goofy intro version. They should have called it goofy intro version though lol.
is it just me or does Justin look like Rick from the walking dead
or is it that rick grimes looks like justin hmm....
Thats the same guy
Truly a post apocalyptic band...
Glad I’m not the only one who seen it
That’s what I thought
Wicked sick!!!! Memories.
You NEVER cease to amaze.....
Wow man you made my day ! Thanks for sharing this pure beauty.
They still got it...
This song is heaven but just when you thought it was great, at 3:24 of the song it’s like more clouds opened up and it was the heaven of heaven 😌
Hey tool, bring back Justin’s awesome hair... thanks.
It was great
I just realized that this song is older than I am and I don't know how to feel about that.
It was EP'd in 1990 and officially released in 1992.
Where's Batman?
I need a 5 hour version of Justin intro!
It would be so amazing if they somehow divulge that into a song, it would be a superb intro to a song.
Awesome video as usual man, I will probably watch this 10 times at work tonight lol.
Fkn masterpiece of a damn album!
My favorite version!
Ya know ... this is of utmost excellency & all, and I just couldn't believe it until I saw it for my own eyes at their St Louis show just three days ago, but what IS it with people? Nobody having full-body experiences because they're too busy holding a phone? How does one simply stand at a Tool concert?? Not I.
God bless you TOOL ... ❤
Justin Chancellor
i hope this beauty part is on the new album - love it!
It is, they have a studio recording of this new version alongside a new video to go with it. Adam stated this would be out before the new album drops.
It's not. Just a regular live opiate
Or after
Can we talk about how mindblowing was 6:56

Danny dressed like the late great John Bonham MUCH respect!!
Justin fucking owns.
My hero.
Just realized I was here 5 days ago. Seems longer....
Tool is my Opiate.
fucking awesome. Great show to see them live for the first time! Round 2 in Nashville:)
rick grimes on bass
The drums man……. The drums… 🥵
I hope this version will be on the new album.
probably not the actual opiate part. that middle interlude is what I would imagine new tool to sound like.
Yeah, I just think it'd be cool if they had a studio version of this on the album.
I feel ya. Right in
On
Heard they just recorded the new version in the studio. 🤘
I hope the new album brings this new recorded version
That was awesome
This still has to be my favorite version of Opiate Extended that Tool has played! They add the synth in the newer performances, but still doesn't have the emotion like this one does when Adam plays the middle section on his Les Paul with distortion fully kicked in! I hope they go with this one when the album comes out!
Unfortunately it isnt which is really dumb
Fully agree, trading the guitar for synth doesn’t have the same feel
Fucking MASTERPIECE !!!!!!!! best Opiate live ever
Who thought that they would play this spectacular fucking jamming right after Opiate!
Sweet!! such a great show.
I love this song!
This is the closest we'll ever see Robert Plant sing TOOL songs
I was there at vip event, guessing u were too. couldn't stay for show, think I was only one... I knew if anyone would post good Quality of this it'd be you.. ty so much
john bonham on drums
i was wondering what a mix of those two recordings together would sound like. guess ill find out in a second or two! thanks for doing this! nice!!! the one is mostly no bass while the other has more bass so its prob good together. hoping so!
This killed the faith I had in christianity at the time. Forever will love this song.
Did it really?
Not me...I love Tool and I love Jesus...this is expressive art at it's finest. I see no problem with loving Tool, but loving Jesus more....
Now you're an "atheist" who unconsciously knows that you're living a lie and still live your life as though you're a god fearing christian.

Call me a simp if you will, but even Justin's random taps at 0:10 sound moody. If bass tone was a game, Justin has won it.
