Watching Chris work his excavator always reminds me of seeing Fred Flintstone on his dinosaur at the rock quarry sitting atop the dinosaur in his cab with his rope control where the the Volvo excavator has the same look with the boom and bucket/thumb being the dinosaurs neck and jaws. Love the dedication Chris puts into his work. John, Perth Western Australia.
Next to taking down trees and clearing, I would have to say that my next favorite thing to do is burn. I spent two days tending a burn pile (not quite as big as yours). In between feeding the fire I can sit in my machine (just a skid steer) and watch the pile burn while I reflect on losing my oldest son (probably about your age). I find it amusing when I talk to my co-workers at my "regular job" which is mostly in front of a computer keyboard about taking trees down and burning. They tell me that "it sounds like a lot of work"! I tell them yes it is, but it's my "therapy". I could spend each and every day on a machine doing "work" on my property in the woods and be content.
Mulching that would not be a good idea. The rental place doesn't like rocks being sent through a chipper. Also fine branches don't chip. I used a chipper to chip willow branches and clogged the chipper, two hours later after disassembling and assembling the chipper after unclogging the chipper box learned my lesson. UA-cam has a lot of watchers but when you become a doer you know the answers. Because you made the mistakes. Trust me this man knows what he is doing.
What we use around here, Central Texas, where we can’t burn for “environmental reasons”, are big tub grinders. These are big machines driven by a couple hundred horsepower diesel that grind whatever you put in them not try and chip it. So it will anything from trees, shrubs, vines, and just about any vegetable matter. Probably animal too but we don’t want to think about that. It’s not mulch material but rather ground up small enough for composting. They put it in giant piles, throw in all kinds of stuff, let it ferment and in a couple of years they sell it to the Karens to put on the yard. Not as cheap or easy as burning, but what you going to do?
@@Bill_N_ATX we ground up 10 condos with one of them tub grinders in Hawaii,, nails,, walls, gates, shingles. 16x60 building gone in a hour. lol... Big chippers will fill a 60 foot box tractor trailer in 45 minutes,, take 2- 24 inch full trees pull the libs & all with out cutting anything.. Fast as you feed it it's gone..
Thanks for the drone footage Chris, it’s really a cool view! 👍🏻 dang, you made some progress my friend! Looks great chris, thanks for sharing another great video! Stay safe brother, Winston is waiting for his dad to get home! lol 🙋🏼
Chris I welded a brush shield on top of my dozer blade and a lug to swing my rake upwards and pin it so I don't have to remove it just for an hour of blading mud off.
You are doing a great job on the burning as usual Chris I haven’t been watching your videos lately but I admit that you don’t play when you start burning up trees and brush
Got the notification for this video when I was grocery shopping, couldn't wait to get home and watch it. Love hearing the crackling of wood burning, another great video as usual Chris
That's how we got rid of out houses, pour on 5 gallons of gasoline and place a teepee of cedar logs around it and THEN burn the crap out of it, after that no one could tell we used gasoline.
50 gal of diesel followed by 20 gal of gas will get that pile visible from the space shuttle without you having to move it :-)....less than you will burn in the Volvo and no worries of cracking the windshield as a bonus ;-)
i like the way you explain the mechanics of fire so uncle Michael could understand (he is pure city boy) we once were starting a fire and just got the birds nest going and throws a good size log on it!
An excellent learning/teaching video about the many considerations to be mindful of when creating and successfully burning clearing residue. Even as an old timer I learned a great deal today while still being entertained. The definition of excellent teaching. Thank you.
Young Man,it is Saturday and even toasty af in Michigan, got 95F* on my tempermometer up here,,I do believe its time for an ice cold adult beverage!,,go ahead and take the weekend off Bud. ;)
chris is always busy busy busy even 7 o clock at night when theres still light in the sky, busy person right there , your the man for the job. awesome burn pile there, the burnpile looks bigger than the excavator lol,the excavator looks small against the burnpile lol.lots of working getting done right there man, way kool. stay safe chris.
Chris, do yourself a favor. Don't risk another windshield. McMaster Carr high heat warning sticker. Little inconspicuous black dot. They watch the windshield for you. No need to reach out and constantly check for heat with your hand. 2 bucks apiece. Sell in a pack of 10. 1.5 inch black sticker. Put on the inside window of all your machines. Temp goes to 122 degrees, the sticker changes from black to a red warning message. When it cools, back to black.
Yeah. Unlike a chipper. A fire 🔥 never gets stuck in the mud, runs out of fuel ⛽️ bogs out or breaks down. And you don’t have to tow it everywhere and pay for tags etc. :)
Yeah, you definitely don’t want the paint to bubble on the machine! That’s not cool! Years of burning experience Chris, every time you burn I watch how you stack it and it’s on then brother! Always a hot fire! 👌🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Thanks for explaining your thought process for not chipping the slash. I've heard the reasoning for burning talked about before, but considering the growth of the channel at least someone is here for their first rodeo. That stump trick was pretty slick too.
Ive started using a fan I made to speed it up. It’ll flat incinerate a green ringing wet pile in no time. Make an air tunnel under ya pile and let it blow up in the pile. It’s an old grain bin fan so it moves lots of air.
You should use milk jugs to start your fires. Half used oil half fuel. Set 2 half gallon jugs 3 feet apart. Set them on top of the pile 3 feet apart. It never fails. Green wood rain it don't matter. Just A little safer way to get it going.
Nice fire Chris. It's amazing how fast that stuff disappears with a huge inferno at work. Like you said, it was eating it up as fast as you could stack it. Thanks for explaining what you are doing as you work. Great video once again.
That drone really hangs right with you. I started last July Ended up with a mini. Its a sweet heart. Little bugger is solid as a rock out to a half mile. Sometimes a mile. 25 minutes..
Why aren't you giving the bigger logs to a mill? Thank you for letting us know that the fire companies were notified, kind of thought so. We cut a tree and gave them the logs for mill. As I listen to you, I get the answers to other questions, and find I had a good idea of the answers. Thanks.
Hard to a imagine just how much ash comes from one fire. Cool wet night is prefect to consume all those stumps. Chris you really used the day and evening.
For this kind of thing, have you ever considered getting a grapple instead of a digging bucket? Something that's more tines, to let you sort out the dirt and crud a bit more easily when you're working with the thumb? You do a lot of burning and stacking like this.
The BURN MASTER! Great explanation of chipping vs burning Chris. Can't imagine how else to get rid of it economically. 😉🤔 You know it's bad when you're burning cut logs! 😳
We could only wish that people would understand that you don't need to second guess the professionals. I feel in my opinion that with the amount of clearing you have done you do know which is the best way for the situation that you are dealing with.
That looked toasty cooking right along... remember that time Karen called the fire department three times then got told to stop or she would be charged - Karens of the World.

Watching the way you use each piece of equipment is interesting. Kind of like the Volvo for land clearing and burning. Really nice work.
That music during the drone footage had me feeling like I was watching Fantasia; burning excavator edition.
"Give that stump a courtesy drop" I love it. Chris you have this fire pit stuff down to an artform! 34:17 'Black and White' Max Surla. Nice choice!!
That fire is giving that Iceland volcano a run for it's money. :)

*"A crap-ton load of brush". Now that's some straight talk. lol*
Karen is talking to the manager of the authorities to report a major out of control invasion of smoke into her personal airspace.
She doesn't care that there was a huge burn pile when her place was built, the only thing that matters to people like that is their own self.

Hey Chris it brought me back when you started dropping stumps on stumps like rocks on boulders

Chris with some tension filled movie music as he chews thru the wood feeding the fire!
