    Your videos have been amazing and I've noticed you've talked quite a bit about Licencing and I was just wondering if you could do a video on how to set that up and how to actually do the contract part of selling your images

    Yes for Patreon! Recently lost my salaried position and going full commission.
    I've been doing freelance photo/video for about 6 months but I don't market it at all, just whatever comes my way. Perfect time to hone in on the business side of freelancing and make it my main income.

    What about doing shoots for mom and pop shops/restaurants? I feel like most people owning small businesses won’t pay that much for an intermediate photographer like me

    Hi Chris! You somehow got onto my recommendations and I was super happy to find you. Similarly to you, I dropped out of college with only a year to go. This was just a month ago. I’m terrified to dive in full time, but I’m doing it. Already had 2 paid gigs! I’d like to know more about invoices. I’ve taken your advice in doing project pricing instead of hourly, but is there an invoice system you use to give the client more understanding with pricing?

    Hey Chris, question:
    -A startup small family bakery opened up that's instagramable, are now looking for a photographer, will that still be considered as commercial work for me as a shooter? or Independent work??

    • @whoschrischu
      @whoschrischu  3 роки тому +4

      this would be considered small-time commercial! Even calling it "commercial" is a reach. I'd charge at least $1000 for digital assets and try to give them images that could be used not only on IG posts, but also on stories and their website (if needed). Give them social media strategies, like posting schedules, and other fun interactive strats. You can even upsell them and offer them video for an additional price. Perhaps TikTok videos or IG reels

    But not all clients will say the truth about what usage they will do to your photo, or maybe they will and "tomorrow" they will use it for more or further usages

    You said to charge on a sliding scale and I agree with this! Would you charge licensing for a start up who is on their first year of business? I decided I wouldn't charge startups licensing at all for 1 year and give them the right to use my images in 3 medias. Is this reasonable or too generous? Also I feel like very people.know about making money with photography off of licensing, especially about the passive income that comes with relicensing. How do you keep up with checking up on relicensing dates? I feel like it would be hard to keep up with which clients are using your images and until which dates unless you add them all to your calendar or something?

    You are mad with those prices 😂. I shoot and edit 5 images for 200. Any images. No matter how much work is involved and what the purpose of the images will be. People get me and my gear for a full day for 200 if they want. Usually it's 2 hours but it can be more no problem. I will also edit the images for 20-30 hours to perfection all for 200. Very simple pricing 200 all included. I don't have to try figure out how much I should charge and my clients know how much it's going to cost.

    • @danporiginal
      @danporiginal Рік тому

      Then you don’t want them as a client. They are properly scummy and won’t pay you. If your doing commercial photography for a big brand, they will be tough but super chill in my experience.

    Why would a photographer making $5,000 to $6,000 a shoot even _need_ a Patreon? 🤔 Why not just do it anyway? 🤨 Are you a Talker and not a Doer? 🧐 (Someone who just sits in front of a camera spewing knowledge that they, too, learned off of UA-cam and is just repeating it because they understand what was said but is not actually doing *and succeeding at it* behind the scenes. There are TONS of you out there! Sounding smart & seeming so sound but are really Imposters. Because being a viewed UA-camr is more important.)
    People who _have_ money don't beg/ask for it. Just sayin'.
