    When I was on my own, I really grew as a person because I was forced to do things my ex- husband had taken care of. But each time you succeed, your confidence really grows! We women do very well at taking care of ourselves! A packing tip is to label your boxes with the room you want them to go to. Watch out for thievery! I usually lose small but valuable items, so keep a separate list for yourself so you know what went into each box. Hugs!🥰

      Thank you Karen! 😍🥰 Labeling boxes according the destination rooms is the one that will go on the list!!
      And I agree about being able to do things for ourselves, I once feared putting some flat packed bookshelves together, but it was not a big deal and wasn't that scary after all. We are capable of taking care of ourselves!! 😍😘

    My heart goes out to you Alisa. Change is hard for everybody no matter why it’s happening. especially changing living places. when you move into your new house you may have both opposing feelings, happy and sad that’s normal because you’re human. Just know you’ll get through it, evolve and grow. You’re doing fantastic today!

      Thank you so much for your lovely words 😍🥰 I know that the sadness is only temporary and it will all get better with time. And you're right that because we're human, even if we've been through sad times before, it still feels like the first time. Thank you for your support ❤️🎀

    You will more than likely swing between being excited and elated and sad. It's a big change Alisa, and time to lean into the friendships you trust. Since you asked, I have a few bits of advice about your move. 1. Don't buy any more food before you actually move in and assess your space. The more you move to the new place, the longer it will take you to unpack. Do a quick run to get the basics for the first 48 hours, then go shopping. 2. Have a 'necessities' box packed with your immediate move-in needs like a bathroom box so you can brush your teeth, shower, etc. without having to dig through boxes (or even just pack a suitcase with these essentials). You will need one for the kitchen with dishwasher tabs so you can run your new dishes and cutlery through while you do other things. And don't forget laundry soap! 3. Definitely repot your flowers before you move. Best way to move them is by placing cardboard boxes in your car and taking the plants out last thing, placing them in the cardboard boxes, and unpacking them at the other end. Less shock and damage. 4. Fabric should be stored in as dry a climate as possible. I am so excited for this new chapter in your life and am cheering you on!

      Ahh thank you Polly!! I love the first night suitcase idea, will definitely be doing that, along with the box of dishwashing necessities to get me going. And I can totally agree how I can then assess the space and go shopping once I'm in the new place. I hope I can arrange for the internet to be available there, otherwise I'll have to go to work and upload my videos on the work WiFi before or after my working day 😅
      And I've done the plants now, will be showing it in the next vlog.. thank you for three plants moving tips, great idea to leave them for last, and the cardboard boxes too.
      I don't even have the moving date yet but I already have the butterflies in my stomach 😘❤️💝

    It was a good idea to buy your kitchen basics before you move. Those dishes are beautiful. Now you will be ready to prepare your first meals and the smells of your own cooking will fill your new space, making it feel like home. And don’t be concerned about the decorating scheme. 😊You will find that when you choose things that you love for your new home, everything will look beautiful as a whole because you bring your personality into each item you choose.

      Octavia, so true! If I'm surrounded by my favourite objects, then they all go together by default because they have me in common 😘🥰
      And I can't wait to prepare my first meal at a new place, maybe I'll even bake banana bread to make the home smell delicious and cozy 💝💖

    Alisa: I’ve organized and gone through so many times. I hope you find a place soon and can make the big transition. Your kitchen stuff will most likely go with anything but you do have to move that now. Whew! And I do understand it! Both times we sold a house and had to transition to storage, stay with relatives, then move into new house! I hated it but that’s just the way it all worked out. So all that grocery stuff, yep! I had to go out and buy all that to stock the fridge. I did it a little at a time as I made weekly trips. After a few trips, you will be stocked. Hang in there!

    Wishing you all the best with your move. Love your dishes! I have been organizing my patterns just because they had gotten out of control and am quite pleased with myself now. I hope there is some good storage in your new place so you can keep your books and fabric in a safe spot. You are really fortunate to have found a place to live and that must be a good sign!

    The happiest time of my life was when I was single and living alone. You'll find that you'll be able to do exactly what you want when you want. The fact that you have your own place doesn't mean you have to be lonely. You'll have the freedom to socialize as much as you want with friends, co-workers, and family. When you come home from work, you'll find your exactly as you left it.

    If you save some of your buying then when you move you will still have things to go out to buy which will keep you busy. Also you will have less stuff to move. I like the idea above of boxing things as a possible sale. Oh also you can get vacuum packs that you could put fabric in so that it takes up a little less space.

    • @Sloths.and.Orchids
      @Sloths.and.Orchids  2 роки тому

      Hi Ann-Marie! I'm saving home electronics and large items for later, like airing stand, hoover, multi cooker and that sort of things. I might just go and get some IKEA storage boxes for moving and storing my patterns and fabrics. Other than that I'll be getting the rest after I move, like you said.
      Vacuum packs sound great, I've had a couple of them before but they were letting the air in, it was ages ago, so probably the quality wasn't the best. Thank you for the great idea!! 💓🎀💝

    Nice kitchen purchases but is there a reason you bought before you moved? Now you have to move all that new stuff to new house. Just more work. Having moved several times have learned a bit. You do owe it to yourself to bring things that bring joy. Who cares if your bedroom is used as a storage unit for a bit. Buy new orchids when you get to your new place. I am a realist. Best of luck oh, and enlist the help from your friends!

    • @Sloths.and.Orchids
      @Sloths.and.Orchids  2 роки тому

      Haha such a fair comment, Frances! I don't know why I'm buying all of this before I even know the moving date... I think I want to feel like I'm in control and that I will have everything I need to feed myself. I'll have lots of stuff to unpack and put away, so at least I'll have the basics to prepare a meal whilst I'm in a middle of that? I will be buying other things, like a vacuum cleaner and ironing board after I move.
      And yes, I thought about getting a congratulatory orchid for the new home, you're reading my mind 💝🎀

    HI Alisa, I have a suggestion on the fabric front. If you still really like those fabrics but are afraid you have too much why not pack them up and label them 'donate ONLY IF I have to. That way if you have room to store them and you'll use them, you're not wasting the money you've paid for them. Also, I'd recommend stop buying stuff. Once you get where you're going, you'll enjoy getting out to pick up a this or that and you don't have to move it. Even groceries, just but when you need ... not a pantry full and have everything expire at the same time. I've moved more times than you can imagine so I advise keep it simple. You'd be surprised at how little you can get buy on and have fun at the same time. If you get sad or bored, let me know (DM me), we can zoom and talk sewing and stuff. Stress and anxiety are not your friends, don't let them in (they are nasty dudes and definitely not pretty 😉) Leann

      I love your idea of boxing the fabric and label it as a possible sale later. I’ve hung on to some pieces for several years and have been happy that I’ve pulled a few out and used them. It’s surprising how styles rotate back around and the amount of fabric needed doesn’t change!

    • @Sloths.and.Orchids
      @Sloths.and.Orchids  2 роки тому +1

      Thank you Leann, such valid points! I hear what you say about buying all foods at once, I haven't thought of it from that point. Even pasta goes out of date, so yes you're right!
      And I love the idea with the fabrics! I will have to record a video or maybe go live and do my fabric sorting on camera! Not sure what day would be best, as I know some live in Canada, like yourself, some in America and in here in the UK. Also I know other vloggers have set dates for their live feeds. I'll have to check the date and time, this is just an idea...
      And it's so very kind of you to offer moral support, thank you 😍🥰 I'll keep it mind for the times I might be feeling down. 💖💗💓

    • @Sloths.and.Orchids
      @Sloths.and.Orchids  2 роки тому

      Omg so true! I'm using fabrics that I've had for over 20 years, some of them I brought from Ukraine.. it all depends on how current the pattern and the lines of the garment are. But also I've noticed that plain fabrics rarely go out of style, it's mainly the prints (that I love so much 🤦) 💖💗

      @@Sloths.and.Orchids For whatever reason, I put off buying an air fryer. Now that I have one, I use it almost exclusively! The name air fryer is a bit of a misnomer I cook a piece of salmon for lunch almost every day and throw in some veggies.400 degrees for about 10 min. Crisp and juicy. Get one when you are in your new home. You do not need a large one

      The other day I was visiting my gkids thousands of miles away and they have both of these. Used it almost exclusively for kids and grown-ups. Made the BEST banana bread in the instantpot and the best burgers, fish, grilled cheese, for kids lunch in the AIRFRYER. I've even used the AIRFRYER to warm up left overs instead of the micro because it gets hot faster and stays hot. I paid $40🇨🇦 got the first one Black Friday sale waiting for my g'son to spend birthday money at Walmart. Bought one for his mom then went back later to buy for myself. Then in March bought one for other daughter other side on country while visiting and bought a second one for myself $70🇨🇦 at Costco. A bigger one. With two I can multitask and I usually only cook for two retirees.

      I've fried onions in it. Once experimented making fried rice in a spring form pan on the rack. It was great. The best sliced mushrooms EVER. Slice, arrange on the rack and don't even need to flip over. Air circulates both sides. They're so good.
