I got all the way through Nacos-Mexico but only got a few eps into Narcos (Colombia) because the DEA and shots of the Reagans and the general stupidity and arrogance of the US towards Colombians was too disgusting to tolerate.

They may have been legendary figures in the lense of a drug war, but they were both child killers at the end of the day. And that's lowest common denominator a human being can reach in my opinion. It'll stop a bullet or two from the right angle, yet still be light enough for movement. But this means that your vest will have certain unprotected areas. The most common areas? Side. In light vests, the front and rear is the most well-protected. The side has barely any, and you can't really protect that well from above either. In an ambush like this, the best armor in the world won't save you.
They would have had a better chance if they dismounted and engaged the ambush on foot, moving around in the dark. Those unarmored trucks were just boxed in deathtraps.
