- This video was a LOT of work. As they say, there's nothing more expensive than a cheap Mercedes and it's TRUE! In this video, I'll show you how to remove Mercedes W163 rear bumper, remove rear tailgate trim, how to replace Mercedes tie rods, how to replace Mercedes hood struts, how to replace Mercedes tailgate struts, how to plastic weld bumpers, how to replace secondary water pump, and more!
Was it worth all the work? Be sure to leave a comment and let me know!

Yes, the patchwork gate panel looks 200% better than it did originally. Towards the end, Benzo wanted up there with you because Lola was up there.
Hi Mike, The repairs do look 100% better it doesn't draw your eyes to the damage. One helpful tip... To make your lift struts last much longer. You need to mount them so the rod end is pointed down in the resting position. How this extends the life of the strut is by keeping the oil inside the lift cylinder in contact with the oil seal that is around the shaft that goes in and out. Keeping that seal well lubricated can make a gas strut last around 7 years longer. I used to be product support for a large marine parts supplier and gas struts was one of the many products we offered. So you may want to take the ones you put on the rear hatch and flip them end for end. Best regards ✌
Thanks!
The ML350 is starting to look like brand new again.😊
Terrific job, car looks great. You actually fix! I've seen other people that just talk the talk, and never fix anything. Outstanding!
Mike you’re my hero, you work so hard to get your cars fixed and still have a lot of patience…
Great video. I know how hard it is working on a car when you live in the plains. I live in Colorado (used to live in Nebraska). Everything is weather dependent. I have two cars in a storage unit (a '70 Mercedes 280S and a '58 Cadillac series 62). Even with a heater going, it still gets darn cold and takes forever to get anything done! Keep doing what you do with the walk arounds, bike reviews, and working when you can. Spring will be here soon. Thanks for the great videos!
Well done on a "working" video instead of aimless wandering around copart. As u know, working on older cars brings issues, such as the tie rods ! Nobody said it was easy, that's why people take their car to a garage.
I recently did that test on my 2008 CLK and there was 2 or 3 mm play, but no issues with any control arm or ball joint. Finally saw that it's play in the steering rack 😮 so will trying to fix that soon.😊
She looks so much better in the back with new bumper. 👍 And the new hood struts will make things better.😊
All the little stuff adds up . The rear hatch looks great ! A few small dents don’t matter, it a buyer says anything.. it shows it wasn’t damaged badly. Can possibly use a puller that you glue on the pulling piece and massage the dents out.. but to be honest it’s not worth the time.. people usually don’t care.
Great work Mike! It's looking way better than before!
Those new tie rod ends should really improve the driving experience! Well done Man!
I think Lola and Benzo approve too!
try putting vice grips on the broken struts to hold them open while you replace them, to save hurting your head :)
100%. There's the hard way (your head) or the easy way (go get a pair of vise grips).
Lola is so funny running around the yard.😂
Jack stands please Mike. The jack can fail without notice, Jack stands won't
You missed the one directly behind the jack.
@@JREwing78You're seeing things. What's behind Mike is the handle of the Jack. Why would Mike have hearted my comment if it were wrong 🤦
@@SirNecro 7:13 - Look immediately behind where the jack makes contact with the vehicle. The jack stand is grey behind a red jack, so it's easy to miss.
@@JREwing78Correct, if you look closely enough it’s there, behind the jack!
The new left front tie rod looks gorgeous and when you get the right one done it will be gorgeous too and she will drive a whole lot better now and no more vibrations.😍
WOW, the ML 350 looks *GREAT!* The 1998-2005 ML series was the best. My sister drives a 2003 ML 350 daily, and it's not difficult to work on (for a Mercedes lol)
Mike always get something anything to hold that car up if slips off that jack no more Mike.
She is so happy with all those new parts.😊
Wow finally! What happened we had to wait so long for fixing vids
You did a good job putting that piece together.😊Woo hoo. It looks like brand new.👍
nice job mike you should use it for towing
Fantastic job Mike, you’ve improved the ML350 a hell of a lot. Looking forward to your next project. 👍
Congratulations dear sir, I like how you repaired the Mercedes, you are a true craftsman.
I give you a 10+
Glad the struts are replaced on rear hatch will be much easier for you to open and close it. 👍
Good to see you again Lola😁
Good morning. Good to see you again.😊👍
Nice job on the back of the truck looks good
That ML is coming along a treat. Nice save.
Mike Great job on the Mercedes. It looks fantastic with all the fixing you did to it.
Fantastic job Mike especially on the body work & tailgate trim it really does look 100 percent better 👍
Awesome video sir.👍
You did a great job Mike. ☺️👍
Great work Mike 👏
Second comment: The MLs are notorious for the plastic connectors of the coolant reservoir cracking from age (had to on my sister's '03 ML 350 3 years ago) as well as the Crankshaft Positioning Sensor (uses a Torx E8 to remove). Also the FM radio going bad (yours is luckily working).
I think the ML 350 was a very good impulse buy. Happy to see a video on it! Maybe it can be your "truck" since it can tow!!
Great video and work, looks good💪🔥
Everything is heavier the older you get 😅
I agree.
@@FIREB4IISo true , years of being the donkey sure does take its toll on a the body .
Mike please show us the junkyard adventures we want to see.
Hi M W Mike you make it look so easy when you fix things your great at fixing cars .
mW
I love the natural boot prop you used while fixing the struts!!!!!
Mike, I have been watching your channel since the early days so thanks for the entertainment. It is great to see you so active in your new career, I just wish I lived close enough to buy one of your refurbished bargains ! On a side note, I think you are spot on when taking a car to - "good enough" rather than aiming for perfect and busting the budget.
Benzo wanted to be in video.😁
I love watching all your videos Mike, there always enjoyable and very helpful about working on cars! Many blessings to you and yours.......Stay Up, Hard, and Freeee......🔥❤️✨️💫💯 and thanks for sharing!!!
I like it when you work on vehicles with your expertise the most!
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. Working on the Mercedes ML350. Replacing the hatch supports, and replacing the grill.
Let's pray she drives straight.🙏
ML350 video yay!
Good job getting tie rod ends. Safety first. I could not see the stand but i hope there was one.
ML looks great. Love the new grill
Am impressed with your pick a part finds. If they let you film there, would make for good content as you peel thru the old cars finding gold.
nice job with this old thing mike 👍👍
Good job mikey. She looks great.
Knew you could fix it Mike good luck buddy
Those older Mercedes get finicky sometimes 😁
Wow Mike. That rear bumper looks so much better
It's been awhile since I've seen a video of you working on cars. This one turned out great!
Would love to see a series where you sell up/trade up to a higher end project, like the Bentley one you did (attempted).
I don't think he ever made it to a Bentley.....wasn't it an Arnage?! 👍
I think it was his dream car. Although I was watching a Car Wizard video today with a lovely Arnage with an irreparable overheated engine caused by a broken radiator.....they are so expensive to work on.
@@Sean006 he had to stop, but I don't remember if he told us why. Still, it was fun to see the progression.
@@KeiNovak I expect he needed to generate income from his channel and it was probably a balance between content & cashflow. A sensible choice because his channel is growing quite nicely.
Personally I don't follow the auction walkarounds or bike merchandise videos. But Mike is such a good presenter that I expect whatever he did people would watch.
Hopefully when he gets a big enough following he can start to do some more interesting projects. 👍
Great job. Perfect doesn't apply to even new cars, so your repair is as good as it can get. Especially compared to repair shop
yes mike use jack stands please and i love to see lola she is happy and good job mike keep it up
The big thing at PYP is you have to tell them no warranty… but still they are expensive.. I have a yard that’s at least 30+ min further away then PYP but so much cheaper is worth the trip.
That is amazing work Mike well done my friend you should be so proud of yourself especially that back bumper and dent removal just fantastic
Dr. Mercedes to the rescue.😊👍
Have you ever used the glue on attachments for doing bodywork Mike 🏴👍🏻
Hey mike you need to ditch the blue bottle your using for the torch . You need to get the yellow bottles 💯💯 they get hotter when your heating up a bolt or whatever. I use to use the blue for a while until I found out about the yellow . BIG DIFFERENCE map gas it is 💯💯😊 I know the crows foot kinda sucks to use for inner tie rods . Get the inner tie rod tool . Works great even for the stubborn tie rods that are stuck
Entertaining and informative as always.
A video from thebparts yard would have been a great video.
Be safe and careful.😊👍🙏
Thanks for the working on the car video that’s honestly what I like to see best. Keep it up when you can. 😊
Always good to see you, Mike! Love to see you working on the cars. So satisfying to get all the bits fitted from a pick apart run. Pretty reasonable in WA where I go to from Vancouver.
Good job Mike..looks damm good
I agree Jack stands Better safe than sorry. keep up the good work loves the show
Good job man
7:20 Axle stand Mike!
you did a great job on the car Mike and I like the duck and the dog 👍
Great work Mikey, car is looking fly. Industrious and creative plastic repair and splicing work, not to mention dent correction. Is there anything this Mercedes technician can't do!
Looking good! A paintless dent removal guy could get those dents out!
Great job
Looks awesome Mike. Lola and Benzo are such cuties! ❤☺️💐💪
Great to see a project progressing. 👍🏻
Almost makes me want to go work on my cars…. almost. 😁
Go mick ❤ love 👍 love it looks boss ❤
That was a good job you did on the bumper.
get well soon mike god bless you
What great finds of parts!! Excellent job Mike!
Great job you did on that trim Mike
You got i the Mercedes looking great and the tie rod stripped off was most likely a bad front end tech doing an alignment good video Mike have a great week Mike looking forward to the next video hi to the duck and Loyola 😊😊
Hi Mike Tony from Australia 🇦🇺 I just love ❤watching you you’re inspiring me your my best friend 😂
Sometimes a 2x4 is the best tool in the bunch
Good video 😀
Its going to be fantastic the best the world has ever seen

Great job on the struts and tie rods.
LKQ. Is not a budget place. When they took over the yards in Houston years ago, prices skyrocketed. And you can't buy something like a whole door for a fixed discount price. They nickel and dime you for every part.
Mike you are so fun to watch,
Great job on the tailgate !
Mike, do yourself a favor. Get some knee pads. They cost about $20 at Lowes or Home Depot. You'd be amazed how kneeling on the cement is with them on!! I'm 66 this year, and have used them since I turned 55. Please, try them out!
Good job Mike. This is coming along great 😎😎😎👍👍👍👍
Mike you could have plastic welded the piece on the back hatch.
Fantastic video as ALWAYS Mike!
Love the video
The car looks great and i have learned that i have same problem with my front end
Will be changing them my self
Thank you
Love the home videos
Since tipping is out of control I TIP NO ONE with exception of servers
