When replacing the lower control arms always do in pairs and do not tighten the bolts until you have the vehicle weight on the wheels. Do not loctite the bolts either.
This old retired guy loves watching you wrench on those cars! Always wanted a neighbor who works on cars, but this will do! I watch all of your videos but prefer watching you, Lola and Benzo working in your back yard.
Hello Mike,Meyle is a German Car Parts Company.Unluckily they produce their Jun....Stuff in China.I enjoy your S124 Vidoes.Greetings from Germany Frank😜
Great video - and that you mentioned the risks. I have the same chinese (spindle through circular plates) spring compressor, smeared a dab of (Mos2) grease on the spindle and slide areas. Used it with a manual ratchet wrench - just felt better.
Springs... You are a brave man... I would wear a motorbike helmet... just incase... o and once the Wagons are up and running send them down the road and buy some others... they are wonderful cars and deserve to have another lease of life!
I'm glad you bought the right spring compressor tool, Mike. You really don't wanna mess with these beafy Mercedes springs with the conventional type of compressor. I bought one just like yours on Amazon when I was rebuilding the suspension on my W124 (it was around 70 bucks I think), and it was a great investment, even though now it'll sit on the box for years, it's worth it just to do the job once, so you can avoid dying, which would be somewhat inconvenient. Specially for you, always working on different Mercedes, it will pay for itself in no time.
I was cringing when I saw the HF spring compressor poorly fitted to the coil spring and was shouting NO MIKEY, NO, DON'T DO IT. So glad you got the correct tool and prioritised your safety, you're precious and have a yootoobe channel, a duck and a dog to maintain. Re: 'the gearchange flair', could it be a tired or worn front or rear guibo, propshaft flex disc? I think you should keep both of them as they're getting difficult to find in good condition. Would love to see a drive by with your camera set on a static tripod so we get a view of the car in motion.
Have a D2 Audi A8L Quattro I inherited along with a D4 TT version. At 160K, did the bushings & end links on the sway bars (poly bushings), Bilstein struts & mounts as well as a set of sport springs (28 or 30MM drop, German company w/TUV certification!)- it firmed up the ride slightly, but not harsh. Definitely difference in the handling & feel. Also, put a Bergman Auto Craft steering/suspension/brake upgrade combo on my '76 V8 Valiant sedan (it has 12" rotors off a '76 Charger Daytona, yes the Cordoba version) and that thing is hilariously good for a car designed in the 1960's
Hi Mike I like the way the new spring compressor 😊 the spring that’s a new design over the ones I have used I’m very impressed. I love those wagon s wow I’m looking for one you got it smoothed out I would keep her .thanks for the video have a great day 😊
The problem with the first spring compresser that you used is if you don't have one on each side, it doesn't quite compress the spring but rather just bends it in one direction. I have a set of those and learned the hard way.
I love these vid's! Keep 'em coming Mike! Maybe with all your videos on repairing them, I'll find the testicular fortitude to buy one for myself. I'll have you to guide me on all the repairs! LOL!!!
I replaced my struts and spring isolators on my w210 4matic using the same HF compressors. I had to change my shorts on several occasions and will never attempt again.
Mike, if you are planning to stay at your current property which I think you are, you could make your life a whole lot easier by investing in a remote controlled electric side gate opener/closer !!!
IMHO, not so sure viewers have a favorite car to see you work on but would rather see you work on cars than walking around them . I've noticed several channels are spending more time waking around cars than working on them. But that's just my opinion.
Those cheap spring compressors are so dangerous. I had a friend who was working on a front end. Compressed the spring, took it out to put in on the work bench and it broke and the spring shot straight up and tore his jaw off. He was in the hospital for a long time. Could not ever work after that. Had to have many surgeries.
Unfortunately, the OEM engine mounts (Lemforder) are produced in China as well. I think Corteco is made in Hungary. I'm forced to buy from the Mercedes dealer for my 2006 E320 CDI. The Lemforder China mounts didn't last 200 miles.
Had a good laugh on that motor mount. Your were probably thinking the same thing when you saw that "F". I could totally see some Chinese company going dumpster diving in Germany for discarded parts. You know what they say, one man's trash...
It actually says in the instructions not to use power tools on those chinese mercedes spring compressors but to be fair, I'll be using them when I get mine so... 😂
I learned this the hard way! No injuries, thank god, but a lot of drama. Keep the threads of the spring compressor lubricated and use a ratchet and socket! There are some spring compressors that CAN be used with an impact gun, but otherwise assume that you should not use one.
You are supposed to tighten the control arm bolts after the weight is on the car. The bushings are wound up, and that's why the car is sitting high.
It’s only supposed to be your bed that sounds like that 😂🏴👍🏻
Hahahaha beds a rocking don't come a knockin
Well the Mercedes IS a wagon... did you never take a wagon to a drive-in theater? LOL!!!
@@radiodave1 ooooo someone little freaky..had to check the suspension out
@@radiodave1 we don’t have drive in movie theatres in Scotland
@radiodave1 Exactly 💯. Shaggin Wagon!😂😂😂😂😂❤❤❤
When replacing the lower control arms always do in pairs and do not tighten the bolts until you have the vehicle weight on the wheels. Do not loctite the bolts either.
Job well done Mike !! You should sell it when you’re done with it. 💰💰.
Nice new camera! Good luck with the title of the rat wagon. I think the wonder wagon is almost good to go.
That spring compressor is terrifying..
Yes that looks like it could pop any second. Fee ball buster anyone 😮😮😮😮😂😂😂
I'd never point the spring ends near my head or throat...
This old retired guy loves watching you wrench on those cars! Always wanted a neighbor who works on cars, but this will do!
I watch all of your videos but prefer watching you, Lola and Benzo working in your back yard.
Benzo always has awesome timing when to start honking 😂😂😂😂
Spring compression tools are terrifying 😲
Get this one finished up and sell it. Then maybe get the other one perfect, should the title work out. Always good to see you Mike! Take care.
Love the duck!!! Why is the station wagon so popular?
You should use a spring compressor designed for Mercedes, if something goes wrong when using a regular spring compressor it may cause death.
I would definitely keep the better of the 2.
Good work Mike, love it. ☺️👍
This is Why I love ❤watching you you get down to business I wish I was your neighbour now that I’m retired Tony From Australia 🇦🇺

Thanks for doing another working on car video. Lots of hard work but great content for us. Thanks

Don't forget tge athletic cup as well 😮😮😅😅😅
That is a great looking car.

Mike total respect for your hard work and Mercedes knowledge
That wagon keeps on truggonb. Keep it up Mike! Love it ❤
Great job as always Mike. Keep knocking the cars out .
Nice progress, hope you decide to keep this one Mike!

Great job Mike!
Looks like she runs great!
i´d love to take the car out of your hands. BUT I live in Germany... So sadly it´s not possible. :-) But you did a great work ^^ Thx for your videos.

amazing how much work you did alone, great job
The problem with the first spring compresser that you used is if you don't have one on each side, it doesn't quite compress the spring but rather just bends it in one direction. I have a set of those and learned the hard way.
Ooh that just gave me a seriously painful visual 😮😮😮😮😢😢

Good job Mike
Fantastic work Mike, the car is looking really smart
it is much easier to put the bolts on the inside of the control arm first, then the spring, then connect the ball joint
The ball joint was the most difficult part of this repair. I had to spread the wheel hub a ton to get it in.
Hello Mike aka Monkey Wrench Mike. Working on the Mercedes Station Wagon again. Replacing the front struts and engine mounts.
I replaced my struts and spring isolators on my w210 4matic using the same HF compressors. I had to change my shorts on several occasions and will never attempt again.
HF wants this endorsement ...😅
Great video and great job Mike. Love the working on cars videos but I do like all of the other videos too...😅
My buddy benzo always trying to get screen time..mike a bachelor? Just him the dog n duck
Benzo is priceless with his well-timed quacks😂😂😂😂😂😂
When the going gets tough ... i call my crazy friend Phil. 😂 I don't mess with springs, control arms and struts.
Mike, if you are planning to stay at your current property which I think you are, you could make your life a whole lot easier by investing in a remote controlled electric side gate opener/closer !!!
Enjoy your content I would use the one for parts and build up the Tilted station wagon and scrap the other one
Good job buddÿ
Mike keep
It going I wounded when are we going to c the jaguar 🚗🚗🚗🚗
Great work again Mike, also did you remove those awful cupholders yet? You can get leather repair kits for the holes.
Another great video mike,be safe
Love your videos. You and Randy rock
Put the best parts on one wagon and sell the other one. Or keep it for parts. This can be a car for life. Not a lot of other cars that can compete.
IMHO, not so sure viewers have a favorite car to see you work on but would rather see you work on cars than walking around them . I've noticed several channels are spending more time waking around cars than working on them. But that's just my opinion.
Looking good Mike, I'd sell this once you figure out the exhaust leak. Your other one is so much nicer. You'll make good $$.
Yikes!!
Oooh not a fun thing getting French-kissed by a spring 😮😮😮😮😢😢😢😢
Damn... now my fear is double. Sorry to hear this.
Unfortunately, the OEM engine mounts (Lemforder) are produced in China as well. I think Corteco is made in Hungary. I'm forced to buy from the Mercedes dealer for my 2006 E320 CDI. The Lemforder China mounts didn't last 200 miles.
The duck LOL
I like the video 😊

Do a giveaway. Seems to be popular on other UA-cam channels.
It actually says in the instructions not to use power tools on those chinese mercedes spring compressors but to be fair, I'll be using them when I get mine so... 😂
The Benzo wagon at Mikey and Lola Auto repair estimates by Benzo the wonder Drake!
Gotta love rockauto
If you sell it. Make sure to list all new parts. That alone should make it sell.
Keep it Mike, if you do sell it LMK
I had a friend who was using the first style you tried ,it slipped off and broke his hand.
I got a very bad cough and sore throat right now but other than that great video Mike...
Put your vehicle in cars and bids. You will get a good bid
These spring compressors are not meant to be used with an impact tool! Be careful.
I learned this the hard way! No injuries, thank god, but a lot of drama. Keep the threads of the spring compressor lubricated and use a ratchet and socket! There are some spring compressors that CAN be used with an impact gun, but otherwise assume that you should not use one.
What about the trans mount?
Why didn't you loan that tool to Randy when he was fighting hell to do the springs on his mustang?
I just got it
@@MonkeyWrenchMike Well then. That makes sense.
Shoot me a link or tell me how to buy this estate wagon. Thanks Mike!
🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉😊
If you decide to sell, I’m sure the next owner would love it
Mike I was watching Facebook a woman she buy pallet ful of carbs Elderbrock carbs 4high maybe 6wide wide rolls wow
If you want to get rid of the exhaust leak for cheap ? Fill the tailpipe with newspaper easy peasy .
Whoever is watching this video, I hope this day will be a great day.😇
Chinese spring tool.. oh what could go wrong..
Shine the old wagon up and sell her.
There will be someone that could use a wagon like that to haul children, grandchildren, or pets.
Fix the nicer wagon and keep it. Sell this one to fund the work.
Oooooooo I know! Sell it to the guy who helped you find it lol 😀
You used to be a two Duck guy Mike..?
I know a good attorney if you get injured and need to sue yourself
It sounds like a wheel bearing.
Please keep the wagon
What happened to the other Duck?
I believe he said the one before was victim to a predator while he away but not positive. It was awhile back.
Didn't you have 2 ducks?
❤🥰👍🤘
Sale it
sell it
This must be rat mobile Mercedes E320 Estate bought during fall of last year Monkey Wrench Mike
Don’t sell it !!
Hey Mike
