- If you are looking to restore your Singer 99 then this series is for you. In this final video we test sew and make the final adjustments for a perfect stitch. We will spend some time examining our stitch and working to adjust the tensions, especially the bobbin tension. This video is part of a series for the early model Singer 99, showing you how to disassemble, clean and reinstall all the parts. Once we are finished this 99 will be sewing beautifully! Follow along for an in-depth understanding of how your 99 works and learn how you can service and restore your machine on your own!

Love the sound of the older machines. You did a great job, Jen. Thank you for this.
Thanks so much! I love the sound too! 😊
Thank you so much I was able to get my bosses up and working again! Easiest series to follow with such a great instructor
Great job! So glad it helped you get a machine working again. 😊
Thank you so much and now she is ready to work for another life time!!🙏🇺🇸👍
You are so very welcome and yes she is! These beauties just keep sewing!
❤ love your program
Thank you!
She is gorgeous!!!! WOW. Someone will be very happy. Thanks so much for all your hard work creating this series. Perseverance paid off.
Yes, some helpful tips would be awesome. My 201 is on my new mini quilt frame. She is a dream. So maybe take that on later this year. Everyone who loves vintage loves a 201!!!
Can't thank you enough Be well. Be safe and be happy.
Thank you! She is so much fun to sew on! Excited for the 201 but yes, just a little "Series break" 😊 Lots of other videos I need to make. Take care!
Absolutely fantastic lessons! My Mum was a professional dressmaker in Dundee when I was a child in the 1950's and I grew up in her sewing room, getting to know all her customers with time and watching her sewing and tuning up her machine. When I was in my twenties I bought an old Singer Jack-in-the box machine, and luckily for me it ran well from the start and i used it often until I was in my sixties. A year ago I bought a 1944 Singer 99K early model but it never ran well and I didn't succeed in trying to get it working properly. Two weeks ago I decided to see if I could get help via UA-cam and I saw your first video. I have now watched them all - many congratulations, you really deserve them and not only because they are extremely educational! For the first time I now know how a sewing machine actually works, thank you! I have stripped and cleaned and reassembled my 99K and it sings and flies like a bird. Thank you, thank you, thank you!
This comment made my day! I enjoyed reading it so much and even shared it with my husband. Congratulations on your restoration and I am humbled to have been a part of it. Wishing you the best with your 99!
@@SewingMachineRehab It was a real pleasure reading your reply, you are very kind. I'm a retired Prof. and HOD Microbiology - hypothetically, if I was not retired and was in charge of a Sewing Machine Department instead, I'd definitely send out the head-hunters to tempt you with a Senior Lecturer position! Thank you again for all your help, please keep up your excellent explanatory work, and I may also say that I'm certainly looking forward to seeing any future 201K videos that you may present.
"I'm gonna put my foot down" and tackle these tension issues 😊 congrats on finishing this project so well! I can hear Barry singing 😂
Thanks Marie! Feels so good to wrap this one up!
Woohoo - she's done! I'm very keen to see a 201 series - but also like the idea of some videos on questions you're frequently asked. Chances are good that if you're getting questions about something there will be lots of other people who will find it handy too. I know I will - anytime you post a video I hit the button to watch and like it before I even start watching, every one is always a winner regardless!!
Thanks Megan! I am itching to start a 201 series but I know it would do me some good to pause for a little bit. I have a couple machines (Pfaff's and Kenmore's) that I would like to do at least a couple videos on. Lot's of 221 hook timing questions as well. Thanks for always watching, I dream of us one day having a coffee and talking about sewing machines!
I love it! Great job Jen!
Thanks Bob! You were my go to in sorting out the electrical, couldn't have done it without you!
Yay!! Thank you so much for finishing this series! I've been so looking forward to this 💜
You are so very welcome! I have been looking forward to this last video on the early 99 as well!
I needed this to make sure I had it threaded right! I was pretty sure because the stitches were beautiful
Yay! So glad it helped! Enjoy!
Thank you! I have an early and a late model 99 and they are both up and running and stitching beautifully! Great series and gave me plenty of time to meld into life as well
I am so happy for you! Enjoy sewing with them!
Thank you so much. You are such an inspiration! I can’t wait to see what you have to teach us next! She is beautiful!!!!!
Great job! Thanks!
Thank you! What a journey!
❤❤❤
Hi Jen, love what you accomplished. I am working on my Singer 99 as we speak. I am concerned about my main shaft installation that I had to replace and now ready for installation. I did install it but since I have never done this before. Alignment is my concern???
Your machine is now totally done and wow what a great job done by you!!
Congratulation!!👍🎉😍 CR NY
Hi! Yes, if you removed the main shaft you will have to worry about a few clearance issues. Mostly around the feed regulator I believe. I haven't had to take on out of a 99 so I would maybe reach out to Bob Fowler, I think he has and may have some good advice for you. Good luck with everything, I am rooting for you!
@ Hi Jen I am working on my 99 as we speak and as most rookies I am having trouble figuring a few locations for screws and I feel like a dummy!
I just noticed your reply and about contacting Bob. Sorry for the late reply by I did not see it until now 1/15/25 4:00 P M !!
@@Manmanandcompany Good luck! So many screws! Email me if you get stuck, jen@sewingmachinerehab.com
@ Thank you Jenn, I have installed most of the parts underside of my 99, but it does not turn as free as yours. Also the main shaft move se back
and forward ?? Play in the main shaft , so not sure if I have done something wrong?? If
Possible let me know if you can help me??
I have enjoyed the series. I have a 1956 99K and am having trouble finding good bobbins. Can you share some sites where I can look? Thanks!
Hi! They take a class 66 bobbin, you can find them a lot of places. Both metal and plastic. They still make them new so it shouldn't be a problem to find them, if you shop Amazon they have quite a few!
The white light you have clipped to the sewing machine table.?? Where might I purchase one please?
I think I answered your other comment but just in case you need it again, amzn.to/4g8prti that is where I got it!
I am new to your channel. Please tell me where you get your light bar table clamped light. Thanks Ellen
Hi! I love my Neatfi light! My husband had to rig my bench so I could clamp it. They sell one with a base as well but the surface of my bench is prime real estate and I didn’t want to give up space for a base. This is where I got it off of amazon: amzn.to/4g8prti I am thinking of doing a review of the light, it has been a game changer and really great for filming, it doesn’t strobe on the camera. A little pricey but really saves my eyes and lights up my workspace!
@ 👍❤️
I just put it into my cart. Thank you ❤
I thought I finished building my 99 early model it runs good for a few seconds and then it sounds like heavy friction on the underside of the sewing machine and it quits working or it freezes up. The motor just isn’t powerful enough. Also I’m having trouble with the bobbin winder adjusting the gear wheel. Do you have any ideas where I can go to get very specific help
Hi! I think I just responded to your email. Also, Bob Fowler has a lot of videos on the bobbin winders if you are looking for more explanation. Sounds like something isn't installed right underneath. I'll help if I can!
