    what's good is, initially he is "a big man" saying I'm going to finish this... then when he realises it's his dad there beside him he returns to the child we all have inside us. we are always our parents children, even when parents ourselves.

    Derek Redmond was badass!!!! He was part of the greatest 4x4 team ever when they beat the Americans in 1991. And then he did this. I felt terrible for him that he pulled his hamstring in one of the biggest races of his life, but this was a great olympic moment. Tom Hammond had a great call on NBC when he said "That is the Olympic spirit."

    This reminds me of when my dad passed away, 1 day before he got sick he saved a woman from a car crash. I never realized how much of a great person my dad was, since he was strict, i only noticed why he was strict after he passed. He had a stroke, and most people die from this type of stroke in about 1-2 weeks. My dad was a fighter and he made it 7 weeks before he passed away. only at his funeral was when i realized how much he actually loved me and my brothers and sister. My mom told us how he left out on bills just to make us happy and get us things, and i feel so dumb to think that wasnt enough and that i needed more. Before he got sick, the morning i was going to school he told me if i wanted to play sports. I told him "i dont know if i will be that good". We had a conversation that I dont say to anyone. But everyday before a game i think of it and now im on the road to being a HOF Dtackle in my league.

    nothing is better than a strong family. for all the dad's who ran out on their kids watch and learn how it's done. I'm 43 my daughter is 10 and I will never leave her side until I die. me and my wife have been together since we where 14 years old we are now 43 and still going strong our daughter is 10. I know how this father felt. he was so proud of his son that day.

      +genericname1 Actually, it's scientifically impossible to not have a father.
      I get what your saying, that you've never seen your father or heard from him, but your choice of words is incorrect.

    • @suiseisekidesu2054
      @suiseisekidesu2054 8 років тому +1

      ***** Well then you're just being more incorrect.. If you have met him, and said you've never had a father, it literally just makes no sense at all. I mean, I was adopted from Russia by a single mother, so I really have no idea who my father is. It doesn't matter if he's a deadbeat dad, you still have a dad. I understand it's just a figure of speech to say you never had a father. But you could've just said you've never had a _real_ father.
      By the way it wasn't really funny. Especially in your predicament, this video and none of it's comments should be considered funny.

      +Miguel Reyes I never had a father like this either. My father never faltered, never cried and did not break down in front of an adulating crowd...he saved his tears for his private moments. He would never have broken down like this...he was the bedrock in my life. I can honestly say the one and only time I EVER saw him wince and shed a single tear was on his deathbed,...and all he asked of me as the eldest son was to take care of my mother, my sisters and brother.

    As a father I can relate to the support that Derek's dad gave him. It's these gestures of human kindness that separate us from robots. A smile, a hug, a gift, a compliment, a silent blessing, some heartfelt thanks, a word of encouragement, a bit more support, a bit more friendship and we can give them every day to everybody that we can meet, we can change the world with these little acts of kindness, these little acts of caring, we can make the world a better place, we have that power within us always. I wish for you all peace, love and harmony. I love you xxx

    Regardless of what one may think, what is important to take from this is the BEST quality that we have as the human race: perseverance and hope.
    One other thing is we tend to focus oftentimes on the love of a mother which is inspiring, BEAUTIFUL and unique. However a fathers love is just as strong and unique in its on way. This here shows the support and strength a GOOD father gives his child when he feels at his most vulnerable point. Very touching video.

    That music broke me into tears and the fact that he wanted to finish the race without giving up just is heart warming plus they did it father and son too!! This is so inspiring for people to never give up and be successful in everything you do! This reminded me about the time e I was racing with my friends and I twisted my ancle turning around. My mom helped me up and my friends came over and we all finished the race together! It made me cry but I didn't give up! It feels nice to success in anything!So never give up!

He would make the biggest deals out of the smallest accomplishments. I'll never forget that. I miss him!

      this is something people train 4 years for (sometimes longer), something that could happen once in your lifetime, people take a lot of time and effort and this is probably what they have dreamt of. trust me, if you were in a situation like this you would be silly to stop just to help someone. I know it's nice and you get respect for it, but they will get help anyway, and you would be putting an opportunity to waste. this isn't just about helping someone, it's much, much bigger than that.
