The most I'd spend is $1,200. They should have at least made the engine cover open. People who buy this can find better stuff cheaper. At this gigantic scale, I don't understand why they won't put ONE opening part.

this kinda makes me feel how much value for money we used to get when hot wheels were doing their 1/18 ferraris under the hot wheels elite brand until about 7 years ago.
Fully opening diecast, but with fabric seat belts, photoetched belt buckles, carpeting, perforated grille mesh, all the good stuff you see on this Amalgam but smaller and all for 100 dollars per model.
The diecast industry has moved on from those days, today the market is flooded by sealed models in that same price range and even autoart has moved on to plastic instead of metal.
Only bburago and maisto have remained in the budget segment, but you dont get any of the above mentioned in that price range, but at least the models are fully opening and can be picked up at 15 dollar in american costco or sams club stores.

I don't mean to offend anyone, but for 1:8 resin with no any opening parts, no any light function, no rotate wheel, no turning wheel, $7500 is way too much, I don't care if it is handmade in England or very limit production. With $900 I can buy Pocher 1:8 resin or exoto 1:10 diecast model. Or $1300 for Kyosho 1:8 model kit, which in my opinion they all just as good as Amalgam.
Amalgam should as least give a luxury outer box and luxury display case/base, just like when u buy a expensive swiss watch. To me is just like a BBR or spark's 1:18 quality with much bigger scale only. Is way over price.

Newman8881 Want a shocking fact ? Amalgam models gets assembled in China so they probably don't even cost them 1/3rd the prices they sell to produce a model ! I got in touch with them the other day inquiring about where do they craft their models and they confirmed that they have 3 factories in the UK , Hungary and the China assembly takes place , I really appreciate their honesty though .

Yep, Pocher all the way. But let's face it, even that is stupid money. I bought and spent 8 months building a Pocher Alfa 30 years ago. Still have it and respect the detail and quality. By the way, I bought mine in 1978...at Sam's Club for 53.95. No lie. Leather seats and all.

@Pat Garvey - I purchased a Pocher 1907 Fiat GP car in Florida sometime in the mid seventies at a K-Mart for $40.00!! I think the list price was around $150.00 but the importer, Tyco Toys, went bankrupt and unloaded these at a ridiculous price. I actually purchased one in the early seventies for full price and assembled and detailed it before giving it to one of my insurance agents. Then I built the second one for me!

    • @flashchrome640
      @flashchrome640 4 роки тому

No, you have some really great points. Heck, you could go to Wal-Mart and spend around $30 on a diecast model that has all of those features! 😄 Won't look as detailed as this, but it will still look cool.

If it were diecast and had opening parts, engine and suspension detail, it could be worth $3,000. $6,720 is not just over priced.....it's insanely over priced. I can't see this company staying in business long with these resin bodied, non-functional models. I'll take my 20 car CMC Diecast collection, many of which have more than 1,800 hand assembled parts, exquisite stainless steel spoked wheels on machined aluminum rims, working suspension components, incredible engine and suspension detail, leather upholstery, miniature acorn nuts on the cam covers, etc. All that detail and not in big, 1:8 scale, but 1:18 scale! The most expensive one is just over $500. By the way, I have Amalgam's 1:12 scale Lotus 49 and while it is lovely, I was somewhat disappointed when I received it and gave it a good looking at. Sorry, but not worth $1,000.

I appreciate Amalgam models and there are some beautifully detailed outstanding ones out there (The Bentley Blower or the Mercedes W196 ). Sadly this one is not one of them. All details look very mediocre considering the asking price, and to make it worse nothing functions, doors and hood doesn't open. A rip-off in my opinion and should not be costing more than 1000 bucks at the max.

If this thing is so "realistic" with the real leather and seat belts and all that... For that price... Everything better open. Doors, engine cover, trunk, gas cap... And it better have working lights. I saw a model McLaren the other day that had working lights and it was, IIRC in the 700 dollar range. This is a rip-off. But as long as you're happy with it. Just don't be surprised when you show it off and people think you got ripped off.
Edit: just decided to look at other videos and saw an episode of Jay Leno's Garage where they have a representative from Amalgam showing off several models for Jay. They have a Ferrari LaFerrari with all moving parts and carbon fucking fiber in the engine bay and he quotes the price at $6,000.

They could have at least tried to use carbon fiber, or at least photo etch metal parts. Not at all worth $7k. There are professional model builders on eBay selling assembled models, for around $300-$1000, that in a photograph, you can't differentiate between the model and the real thing. The plastic brake rotors on this model look like a Tonka truck. They at least could have tried black plastic to simulate carbon rotors... Not that grey fake steel.

I dont know honestly, it looks nice but not much better than Autoart models, which are 20-30 times cheaper.

To have a Ferrari f40 spider of 7500 dollars that doesn't open is like having a beautiful and expensive wife that never undresses. You will always be missing something...

I have only just discovered the brand of models, I have been building models and have worked for several model company's, this is a terrible model for that amount of money, you can see by the way its packed for starters, I'm sure there good at what they do but this really is a bad advert for them.
