If u couldn't afford amalgam just buy 1:18th Autoart. Some of them have 500 parts in it with price of 250. Btw: I'm just a car die cast model collector not work for any brands mentioned.
+YuanGS GS I completely agree and I came here to post the same thing. AutoArt models are extremely nice, on a UA-cam video you'd hardly notice the difference between those and these "1%er" models. If you ask me, these Amalgam models are simply "look how much money I have to p*** away."
Considering the hours worked and material costs to make one of those, it actually is a fair price. That's the annoying thing about being an artist of any kind... good art takes so long to make that even if you charge a fortune for each piece, you're still only making just enough money to live on.
I used to build the 1/12th Tamiya F1 kits and those took over 100 hours with all the detailing. I remember the Italian Piocher were art work for their time. Nice piece Jay, thanks.
+Dave Caldwell hehe still bloody raining 1 day later, loved the comment about rain and the uk having nothing better to do but make models because its always raining lol jay wasn't lying :) greets from wet and miserable Yorkshire
"Who would possibly buy these?!" Dude, I'll be straight with you. If I had the money to buy a LaFerrari or even a goddamn BMW M4, I would probably spend an extra grand or two to make a wonderful replica and put it on my display shelf. Why? Because when the actual car is in the garage, I cannot see it. So the solution to that is simply turn my head and look at the stunning replica. Then it might lure me into driving the actual car for leisure purposes. But you got to admit, these things look wonderful.
Amazing Craftsmanship! I mean it's just amazing to look at them.. all the hardwork and energy put in them it's just incredible. They totally worth every penny if you can afford them.
If people are upset about the price, it's important to remember that these are not Hot Wheels; these are pieces of art. Artists often sell their works at a price point that reflects the time or energy put into the piece. 7-12 grand seems steep if you compare it to a 300 dollar remote-control car at your local hobby shop, but these are completely different. As an artist who has had to worry about pricing multiple times (people -- especially younger people -- seem to think everything is or should be free these days) so I can see the amount of work that goes into these. The only missing from these is a miniature human to drive them.
Tim Dev Next time you're at an art show or taking a professional photo with your family, just tell them you're only willing to pay for the materials used.
+Beau Handyman I get your point these cars are worth the money just based on the time spent making them and the craft but its certainly better than actual art. Especially modern art which has had no time, effort of thought put into it especially not material cosy as there usually scrap parts and odds and ends so they are actually worthless. You have to be a special kind of moron to spend millions on art. Even the old Art that took days if not weeks to paint are not worth $100million in any time and materials its just a painting but people pay obscene amounts for it. Your comparison to a photographer is also silly as they don't spend anytime doing it, once the lighting rigs are setup which isn't hard you just take the picture. I have an SLA camera and just messing with shutter speed and light balance and things have taken better photos than any family photographer I've seen.
I miss the old Pocher models, I bought the Ferrari Testarossa Convertible and the Porsche 911 for $300 each back in the 1990's from Model Expo in Florida and I was just about to order the Ferrari F40 and they said they were no longer available due to a fire at the Pocher factory in Italy . I still have the ones I built
Thats what they use for fillings, or atleast used to. Cool to see you here btw Edit: Well i should watch the video and then comment, because he said it derp
I also make paper models with just card-boards, art-papers, rexin since my childhood...and his models has just became my inspiration, after I saw ur comment...He's the maestro...Thank you for mentioning his name...
The detail is INSANE!!! 😍 I would love to own all of my dream cars in that scale...but that would cost me a fortune...not as much as the real ones, but still more than I could ever afford. Amazing work.
Fantastic models. Laughed when Jay said there were drops of oil under the Miura model. I always had problems with my Miura models leaking oil. Just lovely to see.
I used to spend silly amounts of money on Car models 8-10 years ago. On 1:18 Hot Wheels Elite models of Ferrari's and supercars alike. This makes Me feel a young teenage again. Inner geek :)
It is amazing how quickly can manual labour and custom parts add up in price, even when building tiny models. And consider that the craftsmen who build these are not even getting paid that much more than your average worker, even though the product is 6-10 thousand dollars! Truly magnificent.
I bought a Welly Chevy Tahoe and a Motormax CHP Ford Explorer at a yard sale for $18 for both. My Maisto Ferrari cost me $20 at a truck stop in Nevada, but I would like to own an Amalgam model car.
Hey guys. I'm from India. Looking to buy some good diecast from the US. You guys have some great stuff. Can you suggest some good websites? Would be very helpful.
It is NOT the question that the models do not have labor and material costs that justify the price, it is the question that people can afford to spend that much money on something that has no real use.
I was following Schmee150 on UA-cam and he was at one of the Amalgam plants where he is getting a model of his car built. They had a couple of tables with all the parts laid out before assembly. It was mind boggling.👍👍
Awesome model cars. I build plastic kits of cars and bikes and I can appreciate what goes into making them. Even if those models were offered as kits they would still be pretty expensive too, at least $1000 +.
AMAZING! I love model cars and have a pretty good collection of 1:18 scale cars. Simply put you are paying for quality and these model cars here are very, very impressive. It is easier to look at them as works of art rather than toy models. Wow!
Blown away! Such beautiful workmanship. I'm with Jay, I don't see the intrinsic value of many collectibles in this price range, but I do see it in these fine creations. Maybe someday I can afford one. At least it doesn't take up as much space as the real thing. :)
Very impressive model cars. I myself present high-quality model cars from my collection on my channel. I would be interested in whether and if so Jay also has a large model car collection. Or has he already announced something in that direction? Greetings from Germany!
Nothing will give you more pride ,satisfaction , or sense of accomplishment than completely assembling a model kit on your own. Hence the popular saying.....Built, not bought.

+Adam K ...or 2 or 3 million..... If you can afford to pay 3 million for a car, $7K is like you or me buying a coffee..... Not to be all social justice or anything and I applaud these guys for their workmanship, but when people will spend what amounts to a year's salary for some people, on a static model....then there's something wrong in the world.....
Adam K and they'll do it every time a new one comes out, and not only that, line up for days to do it..... Not saying it is JUST the wealthy......I was talking with a marketing guy recently and he told me about a pair of gloves he sold in his store.....it cost $18.00 to make...he could sell them for $36 and make 100% ROI. But in order to sell them in his store, at his target customers, he's going to list them at $150 a pair....because his customers would RUN from them at $36.00.
+Michael C people moan about rich people wasting money, but look at it like this, is that 7k better in the rich guys bank account, or better paying the wages of the guys building these cars. It's the same with everything, the money does no one any good, just sat in the bank. Spent it and help keep the economy going. Doesnt matter what it is it helps.
+michael C There are lots of stories about people who couldn't sell products until they increased the price. Some may be apocryphal but some must be true. After all, humans are pretty silly creatures.
danmar007 there is an old saying, if your going to make a watch, make the most expensive one on offer. You can swap watch for almost anything. If it's cheap, you'll sell millions if it'd good enough, but margins will be next to nill, if your middle of the road on price, you'll never be seen, so make the most expensive, make then a limited run, and you'll sell out before you even start building the first one. Ferrari do this every year.
Guys, over the years, may it be great restaurants or cool gadgets or anything, I found that many of them will go down if people who likes them don't buy. Granted, the price is steep. For those who can afford and interested, I would encourage you to go get one, just to keep yourself happy and them in business. It is great that something like this exists.
If I had money, yeah. Honestly, I like jada toys of all the inexpensive diecasts. I do have the autoart hennessey venom gt, and it's in a display case. I'll probably invest in a few more AutoArt diecasts!! But these cars look amazing!!
Why thumb down the video just because you can't afford it? I can't afford one of these either, but they are clearly high quality and a labor of love.
+MetalJesusRocks Well said. And nice to see you commenting on yet another channel I follow. Heh. :)
If u couldn't afford amalgam just buy 1:18th Autoart. Some of them have 500 parts in it with price of 250. Btw: I'm just a car die cast model collector not work for any brands mentioned.

+MetalJesusRocks see my comment to the video... I love Amalgam and I had some of their models but these three are the worst I've ever seen.
When I started the video, I was thinking, "he's finally showcasing a car I can afford!". NOPE.....
anything Leno showcasing can't afford imagine him doing a toothbrush advertorial only then perhaps, but maybe still not!
Not true, he showcased Volga Gaz 21 it costs like....nothing , maybe 1k Max in Ukraine
My actual car cost less
@@g60force Dude, I know this comment is 4 years old, but learn what punctuation is!

+Kragatar finally someone who get it.
+Kragatar one hundred percent accurate..
Imam Dwi Septiadi with hanging mirrors... :-(
Kragatar yes it is a lot of work not easy but it's a passion
the price is really fair
A $7000 "Father's Day Present". Wow. I do not live in that stratosphere.
Why didn't Jay go for a test ride?
+Knights2theEnd "What! No Burn-out!"
Because he didn't want to mess up his hair.
+Knights2theEnd Hammond my be able to take one for a test ride... Not sure about Jay
I think it's because he's from America.
Knights2theEnd his ego wouldn't fit. His talent was already in the glove box.
AutoArt, Minichamps, Sunstar and Kyosho: "We make the best and most authentic automobile scale models!"
Amalgam: "Hold my resin."
Anyone else disappointed they didn't take them out on the freeway?
Me. I wanted to see Jay leave his blinker on while driving one of the lighted versions.
+Amesie's Automotive Corner i wanna see jay pushing one along making vroom noises
+antsolja but will it do a burn out?

Sitting here in England, in the rain, thinking I could be doing something other than watching UA-cam ;) Great video of some gorgeous models, cheers !

It's a lot of money for a model, but I can appreciate the extraordinary detail and laborious intricate work that goes into making them.
"Who would possibly buy these?!" Dude, I'll be straight with you. Surely if you had that kind of money, you would just park the LaFerrari in the living room.
You're both Idiots!😂😂😂😂

The LaFerrari from Amalgam is really great! 100% worth the money!
"How cool is that?" A looooooong shot from my AMT, Revell, Monogram plastic model cars days !!
This work is just beautiful !

$10,000 For a model lamborghini? ? wtf imagine how many shotguns you could get for that.
+Rusty Nutzz Double that, and you could almost afford a Perazzi. .
+TheRipler I was referring to something more affordable like a stoeger or something which retails for around $600 in Australia.
Jay Leno's Garage that's why we love so much because you make great shows with great information, Thank you!!
jay you are the man for this, A true car guy through and through
Jay you should look up Milan Paulas the guy builds 1/5th scale F1 Ferraris out of Paper and all the pieces work it's truly amazing

The one episode where Jay actually keeps his hands off the car(s) 😂
2:37 GEEEZ that looks incredibly realistic!

I want a mini Jay Leno's garage full of these :) how cool would that be :)
