I wish he included this verse in the studio version. Its so powerful
Sleeping in the woods, by your fire in the night
Where you fought for my soul and went up against the odds
I was too young to know that you were doing it right
And you did it with strength that belonged to the gods

My wife of 25 years is moving out; she’s leaving. Time after time I’ve heard “Sara” over 37 years of being a Dylan fan. But today, “Sara” blew open the doors to my heart and I can feel Bob Dylan’s agony singing through the song. Amazing how Dylan could put into music and lyrics exactly how he felt. As I write this, in my heart I feel so much love for Bob Dylan and Sara, and grief, which almost certainly follows Loss of any type.

25 years. That's tough man and it will be a huge adjustment. I'm 3.5 years out now. Grieving is a process and you will go through it. We never forget, but the pain does eventually subside. Hang in there*

It's really something when it happens. When I was 20 a girl I loved with all my heart left me...she just said to me to go away....she didn't want me any more after more than 3 years. May be it's not the same thing that happened to you but...I still feel the pain..and the grief. It's absurd , I know, because I'm 63 now. But that's the way it is. Someone said, talking about ex lovers, they are only slightly beneath one's consciousness by day and always behind closed lids in sleep. Be safe, be strong. A big Ciao! from Italy.

I have to add to this sentiment. I’ve been a music lover my whole life, I’m 33. When I was in the first grade my dad I first played Deja Vu by Crosby Stills Nash and Young. I fell in love so much with that album that as a 7 year old I had a LEGIT NIGHTMARE that I’d never be able to hear the song Our House of that album ever again. I too think my biggest fear is losing all the wonderful music.

Jesus Christ, Bob Dylan is the most courageous lover of truth, lover of Gods, lover of humanity, I have ever had the pleasure of listening to and seeing several times in concert.
So naturally, we lovers recognize his Empathic compassion. We appreciate his dignified genius and unchanging integrity. He is a great human guardian. He led the way by example; by faithfully steadfastly personally Serving The Everlasting Cause of Virtue.
Bob helped strengthen my resolve to maintain my faith in the Gods - our kinsmen and colleagues, to trust myself in rejecting the "ethical relativism" forced en mass on the public in ivory tower academics far removed from real life outside those walls.
I love, appreciate, admire and revere Bob's feeling genius mind. His steady manifest strength of character, his persistence in following his own Divine Voice within, sets a great example for all lost children - like I myself was decades ago; lost in a big way and without any memories of my childhood and then my adulthood. I was saved from this awful amnesia plaguing me for much of my life. Bob certainly aided my walk along the Mystyk Initiation Path (oldest Western Spiritual Path forgotten.
I feel grateful Bob trusted himself and did not go into the surgical profession. All best wishes to Bob.

    Lyrics:::::::::::////
I laid on a dune, I looked at the sky
When the children were babies and played on the beach.
You came up behind me, I saw you go by
You were always so close and still within reach.
    Sara, Sara
Whatever made you want to change your mind?
    Sara, Sara
So easy to look at, so hard to define.
I can still see them playin' with their pails in the sand
They run to the water their buckets to fill.
I can still see the shells fallin' out of their hands
As they follow each other back up the hill.
    Sara, Sara
Sweet virgin angel, sweet love of my life
    Sara, Sara
    Radiant jewel, a mystical wife.
Sleepin' in the woods by a fire in the night
Drinkin' white rum in a Portugal bar
Them playin' leapfrog and hearin' about Snow White
You in the marketplace in Savanna-la-Mar.
    Sara, Sara
It's all so clear, I could never forget
    Sara, Sara
Lovin' you is the one thing I'll never regret.
I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells
I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through
Stayin' up for days in the Chelsea Hotel
Writin' "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you.
    Sara, Sara
Wherever we travel we're never apart.
    Sara, oh Sara
Beautiful lady, so dear to my heart.
How did I meet you? I don't know.
A messenger sent me in a tropical storm.
You were there in the winter, moonlight on the snow
And on Lily Pond Lane when the weather was warm.
    Sara, oh Sara
Scorpio Sphinx in a calico dress
    Sara, Sara
Ya must forgive me my unworthiness.
Now the beach is deserted except for some kelp
And a piece of an old ship that lies on the shore.
You always responded when I needed your help
You gave me a map and a key to your door.
    Sara, oh Sara
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow
    Sara, oh Sara
Don't ever leave me, don't ever go.

You always responded when I needed your help
You gave me a map and a key to your door.
    Sara, oh Sara
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow
    Sara, oh Sara
Don't ever leave me, don't ever go.

My favorite period of Bob's career - he had a great voice then and the emotions of his failed marriage - listeners can almost feel his pain. "Spanish is the Loving Tongue" is an uplifting favorite from the same tour. The video of him with Joan Baez is beautiful and touching. Looked like he was trying to renew their relationship. I don't know the timeline for when she wrote "Diamonds and Rust", if was after the Rolling Thunder Revue. Did read that when on Rolling Thunder Revue in Europe, Bob had a falling out again with Joan, after which she left the tour. Joan's performance of her song "Diamonds and Rust" is one of my favorites on UA-cam, and her singing "Sad Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" with photos of hers and Bob's life history is a favorite also.

@Jill Schoenfeld White Joan Baez wrote Diamonds and Rust in November 1974 and it came out on the album in April 1975. The Rolling Thunder tour was October 30, 1975 to May 25, 1976.

I laid on a dune I looked at the sky
When the children were babies and played on the beach
You came up behind me, I saw you go by
You were always so close and still within reach
    Sara, Sara
Whatever made you want to change your mind
    Sara, Sara
So easy to look at, so hard to define
I can still see them playing with their pails in the sand
They run to the water their buckets to fill
I can still see the shells falling out of their hands
As they follow each other back up the hill
    Sara, Sara
Sweet virgin angel, sweet love of my life
    Sara, Sara
    Radiant jewel, mystical wife
Sleeping in the woods by a fire in the night
Drinking white rum in a Portugal bar
Them playing leapfrog and hearing about Snow White
You in the marketplace in Savanna-la-Mar
    Sara, Sara
It's all so clear, I could never forget
    Sara, Sara
Loving you is the one thing I'll never regret
I can still hear the sounds of those Methodist bells
I'd taken the cure and had just gotten through
Staying up for days in the Chelsea Hotel
Writing "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands" for you
    Sara, Sara
Wherever we travel we're never apart
    Sara, Sara
Beautiful lady, so dear to my heart
How did I meet you? I don't know
A messenger sent me in a tropical storm
You were there in the winter, moonlight on the snow
And on Lily Pond Lane when the weather was warm
    Sara, Sara
Scorpio Sphinx in a calico dress
    Sara, Sara
You must forgive me my unworthiness
Now the beach is deserted except for some kelp
And a piece of an old ship that lies on the shore
You always responded when I needed your help
You gimme a map and a key to your door
    Sara, Sara
Glamorous nymph with an arrow and bow
    Sara, Sara
Don't ever leave me, don't ever go
