Every week Nate and Justin come together to talk about mainly Star Wars the Black Series. Reviews, news, rumors, announcements, lists, vlogs, small topics, and more!
#starwarsblackseries #starwars #blackseries #blackseries6inch #hasbro
For the record, I hope we're wrong. Prove us wrong, Hasbro!
Scale is the biggest problem here... I just recently 3d-printed my first Landspeeder Luke design, the Hoth Turret... damn, that thing is crazy big. You look at a photo and just don't realize how big it is until you have it physically in hand. I thought I printed a power plant cooling tower.
Scale is why 3.75 figures started.
FYI as a GI Joe Classified collector that bought the Rattler...WE DEFINITELY didn't "accept" the patches as a tier. That was BS. We just wanted the Rattler
I'd hang an X-Wing Haslab from my ceiling because as a grown man who's 50, I can both easily and skillfully use tools and my engineering knowledge (screw into ceiling beam) to hang it properly. It also helps that I'm not a moron, so it wouldn't fall on the floor.
I believe in you David. You're not a typical black series collector living in mommy's basement or garage and has mommy vacuum his room once a week you've got your own place, a man's man 👍
@@theperceptor9287 Tom!! If I'm being honest, I'd love Mom to hoover anywhere here! I'm basically too bone idle! People ask me how I dust my collection and I tell them.... I don't!!!
@@DavidEdge69 Yeah it's pretty rare for myself to dust my figures on my shelves, maybe twice in in 17 years at the house. Still waiting to move back home. Made the down payment last week, waiting for someone to do something 😕
@@theperceptor9287 Fingers crossed it is soon my Friend.
@@DavidEdge69 Thanks David 👍
I'll keep you updated
Lukes x-wing should have been the first Haslab. Then you do Vaders Tie Fighter, you get the hype going for Black Series vehicles then you start branching out from there. The G.i. Joe team did it right starting with the H.I.S.S., and doing smaller vehicles at retail. The Rattler is huge and at this point I believe they could go even bigger and get backing.
Amen. Nonesense that it wasnt' the first out the gate.
Great video guys. I'm a TVC collector and have come to the belief that the TVC line is still around (maybe solely) because of the successful HasLabs over the past few years. But even the 3.75" scale is quickly approaching limits to how many more large vehicles/playsets that can be supported. Your graphic showing the ~7k drop in each subsequent HasLab is telling. Maybe the excitement for some of those offerings wasn't as high as the Razor Crest...or maybe folks are maxed out on display/storage space also. I think we have 2 more larger HasLabs and the last one being a Death Star display-set for the 50th anniversary which would most likely break that mythical $500 price point ceiling. I love your take on shifting from large dream items to smaller and more realistic approaches for Pulse exclusives/HasLabs for Black Series. If that approach were to be successful, it's a model TVC could use as well.
An accurate, to scale version of pretty much most fighters would be a big ask for most collectors, especially after bringing inflation into the question. Even if we got the Interceptor, I think both Anakin and Obi-Wan's would have to be included to make it worthwhile.
I do think exclusive/made to order character packs would be a good option for a Black Series "Haslab" equivalent. What comes to mind are the Evolutions packs Hasbro did in the mid 2000s. Lets see something like that - all modern tooling, alternate heads, paint apps, accessories galore. Basically a 3 pack of the Spiderman Maximum figure but make it Star Wars.
Yeah it's either both Jedi Interceptors or I wouldn't want either! It's both or nothing for me. -Justin
I suggested a few years ago that they could bring back Battle Packs and Comic Packs as potential Haslabs. I'd love to see them put out more fan votes to see what are some characters fans would like.
Fan votes would be welcome! -Justin
If they keep it in the $200-$250 range.I want Vader in the Bacta Tank.Removable limbs, light up tank and base,a couple Royal guards and his servant.
I'd take that! -Justin
They have my money if they do a Max Rebo Band!
Obviously same! lol -Nate
Maybe this has been suggested but I think I have an idea for the perfect TBS Haslab, that would actually sell AND be budget friendly: Suitless Vader in the Bacta Tank on pedestal with armor and nurses/guards
Wow, this video gave me some well needed perspective. On one of the recent streams I typed up a chat saying that I hope we get a HasLab X-Wing. Now that I have the proper perception of what the scale would actually be in real life, I hope we get character themed HasLabs. My dream one would be the Jedi Council Room with let’s say 6 Jedi and all of the seats with the cool floor 🦘
Made to order figures and 4-6 figure packs are probably the way to go. Go all in on accessories as a selling point. Although it would be interesting to see if cloners would back a $1000+ LAAT because "clones." Great video, as always!
Thanks for checking out the video! I think you're right about the made-to-order stuff. I'd love to see that! -Justin
It's interesting listening to this, since my perspective on Haslabs is almost entirely from the Transformers side of things, where we're getting just very cool figures with all the bells and whistles, especially as Liokaiser started right when you posted the video.
Also, there was a Haslab over $500 - the original Unicron which inaugurated the service cost $575 back in 2019 and managed to fund. They're unlikely to do something so expensive again anytime soon though.
I completely agree you guys. I passed on the vintage collection ghost vehicle for precisely this reason. Especially after nearly 50 years of collecting Star Wars even if I wanted it, I don’t have any room for it now.
In the age of 3_D printing perhaps Hasbro should offer design plans that could be purchased. Fans could then decide whether they want to print these huge items. It would save on shipping, materials, labor, factory costs and still turn a profit. Just a thought
I want a HASLAB badly in the line, but I am never expecting one going forward collecting this line. All the reasons you guys covered, i think, are pretty valid.
Great discussion topic, fellas
Appreciate you as always, Fig! -Justin
I think you guys are completely right about made to order figures, we could get so much more stuff from that line that haslab wouldn't give us
I'm still salty about the Rancor not funding. When I look at my RotJ display I always think about what it would look like with the Rancor in it. The timing was terrible and the tiers left something to be desired, but some UA-camrs actively campaigning against it is what really sunk it. Yakface's "No Oola, No Moola" for example definitely played a big part. He'll never admit it, but he knows what he did.
Hasbro, if you're reading this, please for the love of God give us another shot at the Rancor. You already have the prototype. Reworks the tiers, don't run it concurrent with other Haslabs during the Holiday Season and it will fund.
I also revoked my backing when the tiers were announced. Remember how the backing number fell after the reveal? I'm proud to say I was part of that. I still want a Rancor but I'm not gonna reward Hasbro's egregious greed like that. They already invested in the design and tooling. They should swallow their pride and re-do the campaign with a reasonable price this time and recoup their investment.
Excluding Oola was the problem, not Yakface coming up with a funny succinct way to express how annoying it is. From a young age, her scene was the most terrifying and heartbreaking in SW, and that's important! Idk what their demotivation was, whether it's Hasbro or LF, but it's tragically stupid to me. There's a way to frame it tastefully and sympathetically - which I'd argue the movie does a damn good job of - and that should be the approach to collectibles as well. Include some literature about the character, or an interview with the actress about the role.
For a collector brain, she's 1 of 4 essential characters to pair with a Rancor. Instead of making the 2 that were needed - Oola and Malakili - they offered a pointless Gam Guard repack and updated Luke, which cool but in no universe should he be a Haslab tier.
From a collectibility standpoint, the Malakili hail mary made Oola's exclusion even worse, as you go from 2/4 to 3/4 of a set you'll never complete. Hasbro knows collector brains work like this, so if LF wouldn't even let them mention Oola, they should wait for LF to get over itself before making a Rancor. You simply can't have this much misalignment with collectors and expect them to put up an interest free loan. It's gotta be damn near exactly what they want.
Very true on scaling. I couldn’t realistically fit a 1/12 scale Slave 1 in the room. The 1/18 scale vehicle is as bit as it can get. I’d love for them to attempt the Ranchor again but with better pricing or at least tiers that justify the pricing. Give the people what they want, we know you have good profit margins with labs!!
I think that the Black Series Rancor Haslab would have 100% funded if the Tier Levels would have been more appropriate (for the Collector): Rancor w/Rancor Keeper + Gamorrean Guard (Tier 1) + Oola (Dancer) (Tier 2) + Slave (or Prisoner) Leia (Tier 3). Haslab price @ $400 ($350 - $500). They could add a fourth Tier (possibly change the order) with a Jedi Knight Luke Skywalker!
I still want a Black Series Rancor!
Bring back the Rancor with a Rancor Keeper and Oola as part of the base and then add some various characters as tiers. I did not back the first one, but with the right added characters I totally would. I have backed the Barge, the Razor Crest and the Cantina. Had the Rancor funded, I would have jumped on, but I waited to see how it would do. I think a Black Series Haslab needs to be OTC and include some figures that we haven't gotten yet - maybe an AT-ST with driver and the bunker with another Rebel Commando or two and some more Ewoks - take my money Hasbro!
Agree with everything you said, boys! HasLabs don’t need to be a thing; massive vehicles don’t need to be in TBS. Smaller vehicles, yes, but even those, I’d only want ATRT, BARC and maybe Jedi Interceptor. Beyond that, I don’t NEED any other vehicles.
MTO large figures and creatures are musts. Ninth Sister, Pong Krell, Durge, etc should be the MTO $50-$60 figures. Creatures too. Give me a $200 set of the Geo beasts. Give me a Bantha. Still would like to see a Rancor somehow. That stuff and bigger “figures” are the way to go.
I also like Nate’s idea of MTO figure packs. Do $150 and give us 5 Cantina Patrons. 5 Jabba Denizens. Rebo Band. Better yet, say it’ll be a $150-$200 pack of 5 or 6 Cantina aliens and then let us VOTE for which 5-6 we want to see made.
Vehicles could die, I’m good after the few smaller ones.
The tiers tie directly to the price, people feel like if the value of the base offering is borderline, the tiers should make up for it. But if we are being realistic, Hasbro has been increasing price on all their products and collectors at large are not happy about it, but it’s clear Hasbro will not be restructuring their prices any time soon.
How have TBS prices gone up? 🤔
I think most people just don't want toys that are this large, mostly because they don't have room for them. I agree that not buying the vehicles sends the message that people don't want vehicles at all, even if they weren't buying it because of the execution of a certain release, as opposed to not wanting the vehicle at all. As long as we're not recommending that people buy a vehicle that they don't want now in the hopes of Hasbro making one they do want in the future, because that's not how it should work at all. I guess it's just up to Hasbro to make vehicles that people actually want and I think Nate's idea of a Jedi Starfighter Haslab is a good one because they're small and could sell them as a 2 pack to save on mould-cost. It's one of the more realistic 1/12 Haslab ideas, I think.
Natey's just hit the nail on the head!!! No cheap barstard BS Collectors want anything above 30 quid...
I have 8 ships hanging from my ceiling. Including my ghost. It wasn't easy, but it's doable. I use picture frame cables. Its designed to hold 100lbs each. I have 4 holding my speeders, I have 6 holding my ghost. I have printed jedi fighters. I have an at-st that I'm building now. All in 1/12.
I have tvc ships that I hang higher to make them scale better. 12ft ceilings in one area, 20 in others. When i hung everything I put up scaffolding and had a friend in the attic. We put in conduit. I backed 3 rancors. Today, I'd do 2 or 3. I backed 6 cantina, 3 of each. I always buy an extra to donate to charities. One year it was make a wish, one time it was children's hospital. I also bought 6 staps, 3 initially, my wife bought 3. We donated 3. I bought 4 of the maul bloodfin. On average I spend 10 to 15k a year on figs. I have 3 warehouse spaces that are ac and humidity controlled. I will say I spent less this last month and started collecting the smaller galaxy squadron stuff. I bought a few to mount high to make the scale look right.
Id buy a laat. Maybe 2 for 2k. It would be rough but I could. Max Rebo band, id buy all i can.
Coming from the perspective of a European collector who gave up on Hasbro and moved on to Hot Toys…
Quite frankly, the only feasible 1/12 scale HasLabs I can think of would be the AT-ST (tall, relatively small footprint, iconic ROTJ vehicle), Darth Vader’s TIE Advanced X1 and the Eta-2 Actis Jedi Interceptor from ROTS.
Anything else would be absolutely massive and impractical. The X-Wing and Republic Gunship are absolute nightmares due tu their wingspans.
Now there’s pricing vs. perceived quality/value for money.
In that sense the Rancor was a joke. They were charging Hot Toys prices (especially outside the USA) for a plastic Black Series toy, complete with ugly visible articulation points and no display base. And no, the paint did not scream high quality.
As for the Cantina, I’m just baffled to this day to see how many people backed what was a barely painted plastic diorama set, with no floor, ceiling, lighting or even an outside wall, sold at extortionate prices. Yeah yeah Tonnika sisters, blah blah… Come on, not at that price point!
I’m not anti HasLab. I was super enthusiastic with the Ghostbusters cosplay gear (skipped the Ecto 1 though, no regrets), Deathsaurus was a banger and Omega Prime is very promising. Not sure about Liokaiser though.
The funny thing is, as much as I'd want clone wars / rots starfighters in TVC. We don't have the modern characters for that sort of diorama even. Getting them in Black Series I can easily recreate a few scenes from the movies / shows. Beyond that I wouldn't want something in black series.
Edit: if we want to scale up the accessories then buzzdroids are cool but the anakin and obi-wan included need to be the top value. Tier unlocks should have 1 be a special count dooku and Palpatine. Light up afterbuners would be cool alongside sounds. Then they can sell a grievous and magnaguard pack on the side (like Sabine x Chopper).
One issue is the main reason for me being into TVC is vehicles and playsets, so adding more of that to Black series can be confusing for what to add in to my collection
I agree about the most viable idea being a collection of figgies. You could spruce it up with diorama pieces. I’m thinking something like the Jedi Council Chamber or a staging area on a Venator with holo projector. Etc.
Speaking about prizes: Lego, since having found the collectors' marketplace, shows sucessfully, how brazen your demand can be as a producer. And even they got much more problems with alternatives according to the nature of their product, they keep pulling the prices higher in accordance with lowering quality. I could believe that Haslab is watching carefully.
GREAT,GR8 NEWS FROM THE WORLD OF BLACK SERIES!!
The "Mighty David Edge" has just took delivery of Red Squadron Astromech pac-a-trois!! Those undersized robots ROCK!! I now have Jek Tono Porkins Astromech!!! ❤❤❤ I'm presuming that little fella is also dead like Jek? I managed to ebay it for £43 shipped, which appears to be at least 50% cheaper than I've ever seen them go for in Englandlandlandshire. Also arrived this morning is my 3d print 6-inch scale Hoth Turret, but I haven't looked at that. Painted another Mando Green Squad member a few minutes ago and got a second minty tvc GG Lando Elvis outfit for £3 earlier. My previous display Lando's card was creased, so I'll open that to remind myself how shit and tiny those McDonald's toys really are!! What a time to be Alive!!!
Congrats on getting that R2 and R5 3 pack. I managed to get both of them years ago because I was obsessed with the astro droids, still am. We still need to scale new versions of these droids. 👍
@theperceptor9287 Absolutely. This is a lovely little pack and came with a cheap acrylic case as well. I desperately want the other 3-pac now. They are on my "Big Ticket" items list, not so much for size, but for their stupid UK prices, so I was thrilled with £40.
@theperceptor9287 I would love a load more larger Astro's. Why we only have 4, with 2x R5's is a mystery. I've bought that "Griff Cargo" R4? five times now and have enjoyed making 4 different Robots from the base. Two are quite good!
I'd love a rancor but if you compare the price to the haslab giantman, the rancor pricing shot up because of the tiers. They should have sold it 200 without tiers.
Mattel makes the Barbie doll house. Hasbro makes the…
Make it make sense.
It really is a matter of dedication to the fans buying their products.
I think part of the problem with vehicles like the Jedi Starfighter/ Interceptor is that I don't think there's one design that the community wants, there's lots of variants of both of them. Could they do one as a Haslab? Yes. Say if it was Obi-Wan's second Interceptor from Revenge of the Sith, with Obi-Wan, a Hyper Drive ring, astromech (who's name escapes me at time of writing) and customizable flight stand that can display the fighter alone or in the ring. Maybe even some Blast effects thrown in for good measure. Easy Haslab... that now locks the ship to that one Haslab campaign so they can't do (at least for the time being) Anakin's, Obi-Wan's red one, Ahsoka's Yoda's, ect.
I agree with most of what you guys said in this video and think the most viable path forward with HasLab-type products in the BS line would be “made-to-order” XL figures (9th Sister, Durge, Pong Krell, Rayvis, etc.) and creatures. I did have one outside of the box idea. I’m sure someone else has thought of/mentioned this, but HasLab could do iconic scene dioramas/landscapes instead of complete ships or rooms (i.e. TVC Cantina). For example, the Millennium Falcon is obviously way too big, but maybe HasLab can do the cockpit and/or main hold. The cantina would be too big, but maybe they can do the cantina bar, bar hood, and one booth with chairs. Shit like that. Outside of the Millennium Falcon rooms, which I’m sure would easily be funded and sell like hot cakes, I’m not too sure if the same could be said for any other projects that fit the mold I’m proposing.
My current ideas are more like battle packs:
A wookie Katamaran with a crab droid and Kashyyyk trooper.
A Bantha.
Clone vs droids walkers, speeders, and other niche tanks.
The clone swamp speeder battle pack.
Key here is including unique characters people will be pissed are tied behind a pay wall. Like rare aliens, jedi, and troopers.
(gasp!) No more Black Series Has-Labs? Say it ain't so, Nate! Justin! Justin, this is just a joke, right? Ha ha ha. You're just fooling. All I want is a lousy bantha for my Tusken Raiders! 😭😭😭😭😭
I wonder if they'd ever consider a Bantha. -Justin
I generally agree with your points here - ESPECIALLY with the point about the failure of most community to show up for anything over 25. It’s frustrating to me beyond belief but it is what it is.
That is why I have been advocating for a black series haslab to be packs of figures rather than a vehicle. Figures is what the 6” scale is all about. That’s what the “haslab” should be based around.
High deco, high piece count, fan favorite characters that come in logical groups: cantina aliens, jabbas goons, prequel alien army builders (geonosians, gungans, Kaminoans, Nemoidians, etc), ot and prequel droids …
I’d envision packs of 6. $35/$40 each for a total of $210-$240. Could be all 6 from ot or pt OR could do mix of 3 and 3 from OT and PT together.
Call it a haslab or call it made to order fan packs, I don’t care. Point is, create special releases that are embellishments on what makes the black series great, which is the sculpted detail and paint detail that the 6” scale affords to the figures themselves.
All that said, I’ve seen folks 3d print 6” scale / slightly downscaled xwings and I’d buy one in a second if hasbro did that as a haslab. That is a true dream product. the size is in the same ballpark as the length of the sail barge, but granted is wider. I’d buy it in a second. I’m waiting to see how big the Gi joe rattler and what price point that is going to be at as It feels like that would be pretty close to xwing scale plus or minus
The scale is the big thing. Not only because it makes making vehicles and stuff hard, but also because a lot of hardcore Star Wars with loads of disposable income collect 3.75". Because that's what they grew up with, and Vintage Collection has a lot better character selection, while _also_ being better for vehicles and the like.
I remember watching a video where someone compared the average Black Series and TVC collector. Don't know how accurate it is, but it sounds right to me: most people who by Black Series buy other action figure lines too and have _some_ Star Wars figures. Whereas most TVC collectors are usually dedicated _entirely_ to TVC and have _a ton_ of figures.
I think you're right that the audience simply isn't there for a TBS Haslab. People didn't buy the Blood fin or STAP. They didn't buy the Starkiller set. All under $100. And at a higher level, why are people even advocating for more Haslabs? Hasbro is a billion dollar corporation. They know what works and what doesn't. There's zero reason for them to have crowdfunding campaigns. At worst, the more expensive/experimental items should be made to order. I'm okay with that model. Hasbro already offers Star Wars vehicles in TVC. If people want vehicles they should just buy those.
I get your points but IMO They absolutely can do a X wing. The rattler is almost three feet long and yes the xwing would be a bit longer, but Galactus is 32”tall. Luke’s x wing is too iconic not to make it. It would fit as a haslab. Stretch goals could be Biggs on a new body, Jon Bandar gold leader, and a nice nod to the EU would be corran horn. Wishful thinking. I like the idea of multi figure EU packs and larger figures also. It would be nice if we also got a second shot at a rancor. It damn near funded. They just needed better stretch goals. Also smaller players could work. Like a falcon cockpit, barracks, or a Jedi counsel area.
I wanted the Stap to be £3.55... with 2 Battle Robots.
Yes It needs to have a regular version and a battle damaged version of the droid pilot. And maybe every tenth STAP has a dead Gungin instead of the damaged droid. More collectable 🤔
@theperceptor9287 Tom!! You know the score!! If they were £3.55, they'd sell at least 50 more of them. People would still complain though...
@@DavidEdge69 I'm just trying to help the Has-Bros sell their products just like you my friend 👍
A twin pod cloud car from bespin would be pretty sick, could even include all new figures for the pilots
Personally i would back any Black Series Haslab project, i did back the doomed Rancor. The problem is with large Vehicles like an X Wing, the plastic they use is far too flimsy, the TVC X Wing suffers the same issues, flimsy plastic making the wings flap and warp very easily. I do hope we do get at least a sniff of a Black Series Haslab soon. Great episode and talking points my friends.
You guys really have a point. I for myself don't buy many things because I don't have a lot of money. And so naturally I really just pick up my favorites or cheap figures and leave out anything else. Like I didn't give a damn about Momaw Nadon but I was THERE for Malgus or the Clone Wars Ahsoka. And I think the majority of Black series collectors are just like that. They don't wanna spend THAT much money on what is basically a toy. People that collect as many figures as they can, like you, are, after all, the exception.
I agree with you guys. Getting full scale 1/12 figures of some of the larger and/or more obscure characters would probably be the best case scenario for Black Series Haslab going forward.
I agree completely with your thoughts. I think TBS should focus on premium figure formats with the occasional diorama piece thrown in.
I still cry at night because of Rancor. I can’t believe it’s been almost 4 years.
With the Stap sales being lower than expected, I feel like the only options we have are jedi intercepters (with buzz droids or clones as tiers), or doing a figure pack, like Pong Krell and some 501st Exclusive clones as a haslab pack. Gotta throw in the clones for all the Gen Z cloner fans 🙄
In before the "That's not true, that's impossible" moment about TBS Haslab
Edit: After watching I overall agree with the point of TBS haslabs not being plausible due to scale and cost. The only ones I could hope for are ones you guys mentioned for the most part with the arena beasts and for me a AAT (it'd be chonky but that's my dream haslab)
When it comes to the rancor I was disappointed with the tiers mostly because I grew up with 3.75 rancor that had most of that stuff (the rocks and cardboard backdrop) by default. While I didn't like the tiers I did back it but even with that I was kinda rooting for it to flop.
I feel like the limited run made to order figure packs would be great especially if they do what they did with the last command pack. Hopefully we get that max rebo pack one day
The AAT would be awesome! 'swmasterplaster' did make that one as well, but obviously they had to mess with the scale. -Justin
@OutOfTheBasement I wouldn't mind if it wasn't true to scale since I just want a separatist tank. It's one that doesn't feel too out of the realm of possibility while also being a relatively iconic vehicle from the phantom menace/clone wars
The space really is the biggest thing for me. I backed the cantina and I'm like "well I'm gonna get it, but I have no where to put it" soooo a 1/12 Gunship or AT-AT would be awesome, they are simply just way too big lol
IMO, the big mistake Hasbro made to not wait until the BOBF, when the Rancor (and I do not think that people cared whether this one was a baby Rancor or not), did awesome things. Then it would probably have sold like hot cakes (I would have bought one, too).
But as it was? No, not really. And it should have come with the Rancor keeper. A deluxe BOBF Boba Fett as the next tier. Also, Hasbro could have included the riding tack of Boba's Rancor. But no...such a missed chance.
Haslab make a "general shelf size" display. Like a docking bay from the Death Star, walk way outside Bespin, Carbonite freeezing display
Or even a modular one with removable pieces, though maybe thats asking for too much
The only real options here are Luke's X-Wing, Anakin and Obi-Wan's ROTS Starfighters, and yeah, Gunship, or AT-ST, all of which you've mentioned in this video. It's gotta tie into something though.. it's gotta show back up in "entertainment" or an anniversary that people actually care about. At least with the Starfighter, it's essentially the same sculpt so, yeah..
If doing the Jedi Interceptors, it could be a two pack of Obi Wan and Anakin's. Or a two pack of the Interceptor and a Droid Tri-Fighter.
The big advantage over doing any of the fighters (X-Wing, Jedi Interceptor) is there are repaint opportunities galore, especially for the Jedi Interceptor. I think the Micro Galaxy line has at least 6 versions of the Interceptor out. So if you make the first one the Haslab, then you can release the others down the line as stand alone releases.
I think that big vehicles are impossible for a Black Series HasLab. It’ll be like buying a dinner table or a small fridge. What could be the future for the line? Worldbuilding accessories.
I think it’s just a bunch of excuses from them. There’s no way an XWing is impossible. Mcfarlane dropped a $200 batwing with a wingspan of about 3ft and the dragonfly was $275 which is more expensive but you can feel the difference in quality. Then the rattler, if that’s possible I don’t see how the XWing is out of the question. Also, the ATST should also be good to go, especially with it being an army builder while they made a 2ft giantman for $200. Even at $250 or $300, I can definitely see the ATST being a Haslab. Idk it seems like they fumbled the rancor and now think that any other idea is not worth it.
💯
@flamingosauce Great comments! I have no idea why they can't do an X-Wing either? If they scaled up the newer tvc versions, I'd be happy with that. It doesn't need to be 48 feet wide. Also, make the wings removable. That way it would fit on a relatively normal shelf, with one wing removed, sideways. Also, if they are too cheap to shove any prototype money into it, I'd order one or two from digital images. They produce great stuff. I've had the Skystriker and Hiss Haslabs and they were really nice, so I'd trust them to make something worthwhile.
Thank you for injecting some common sense into this, people need to stop licking Hasbro's butthole for a second, stand up, look around and see the reality around them for a second. Plenty of companies are doing big things for big price tags and they work because the value is there.
I think a x wing or tie fighter can totally be done (gi joe classified just did the has lab rattler) I do think ships larger then that would be to big and too expensive
@George-de6hd I do appreciate they won't make an At-At, a Falcon, the Lat and other vehicles of that magnitude, but I'm not having this nonsense that an X-Wing, Tie Vader, A-wing, Y-wing or AT-ST is pushing it too far. The Snowspeeder and First Order Tie which have already been produced, is enough evidence that they are possible to make. Not to mention the Hiss, the Dragonfly and now the Rattler.
I’d love a falcon cockpit haslab. Give it lights and sounds and as much detail as possible and a stand. I works with OT, ST, and solo figures and is the most popular ship in the series
I’ve been on this train for awhile. I do not expect a BS Haslab ever. I do like the idea of an obscure figure pack. That actually fits the basic idea behind Haslab when it was launched as ‘dream projects’.
Also if the big haslabs are out of the picture I’d gladly do a smaller scale one for more speeder bike varieties… like the BARC or Mando’s speeder, etc.
If the AT-ST came with a Snowspeeder as a premium option, I'd be all in.
The LAAT is something I argue with people all the time. I've always said I think it would cost £1200 as base, which would never sell, even if people could fit it in their display.

The made to order figs is a good idea, but I think the problem with demand still persists. For Hasbro to put in the time and effort and resources to create prototypes of these figures they would want to be selling a decent amount. The wider black series community don't seem to be interested in obscure background characters particularly from the OT and PT.
You're right on the money guys, seems like with TBS, made-to-order items are the way to go. I will say that I wouldn't back a Haslab due to budgetary and space issues, and I also just want the figures, but it would be nice to for us to get a 2nd chance.
I think Hasbro should just go with everything in one package and slap 14k to back on it. Just hit a middle ground between the 10k to 16k or whatever you need to fund and let it stand on its own merits and not take the chance you need to push it with fomo items. And patches are spitting in the face, just don't even put that there, just have your figures. If it's a common weapon and a stand, that should be just in the main offering, Hasbro needs to stop with the really trash tiers, if it's figures or an increase in doubling items fine but not stands or weapons or patches and swag that most collector communities that are not GB give a damn about. They are out pricing dream collectors, 250 to 300 is about the sweet spot, because otherwise you may as well be self-printing or buying KO's.
When it comes to vehicles and world-building 3.75" is the one true scale.
I think as long as they keep it around $200-250 like the Marvel Legends Giant-Man, then there’s a chance. And I say that because the Rancor almost funded at $350 even with a bunch of negativity around the campaign. I think if they presented a good offering at a lower price, they could definitely get enough people to at least fund the base tier.
Must admit I think you are right on the Rancor. I didn't like the initial unlocks, and found them a bit baffling, but NOT making that Rancor happen has probably screwed any real interest in Haslab doing anything cool for us. And we don't have a 1/12 Rancor, which would have been AWESOME, who knows what other amazing projects they shitcanned in the wake of that failure.
Love how all this video is a campaign for made to order items lol
I remember checking on chat gpt how big a Black Series Death star would be and it said the size of a football stadium, that is crazy
You guys are sharing the sad but true reality. I really don’t see Black Series getting a HsaLab at all. There are too many unrealistic talking points in the community. The biggest one being the general community’s reluctance to buy anything over that $25 price point. Such a shame
Good conversation.😊 A lot good of issues were pointed out as far a scale of the model and the price it would cost to do so.
The only way that they would make the LAAT Gunship would be if they could scale it down a little bit, much like the Falcons in the past have usually been. To be affordable and of a manageable size, the troop bay would only be big enough for 3-6 troopers, and with that, the turrents would be way out of scale with the rest of the ship in order to hold a 6 inch figure. Just my thoughts...
Diorama vehicle cut aways are the way... Cockpit of the Falcon, bridge section of a star destroyer.. etc etc
THANK YOU for pointing out how good a deal the Rancor was at $350!!! Plus shipping was included! Just to ship that beast today would be close to $100. All time fumble by this community it’s so sad.
I would take an A wing, no problem! I think these smaller ships would be great. Just include a flight stand so we can pose the ship flying (similar to the Vintage Collection N1 Starfighter). A skiff with skiff guards would be awesome too. Either way, a very thought provoking video!
They should make a 1/1 Death Star instead.
This is why TVC Is the way
Black series for the most iconic characters, TVC for everything else
Love my TVC world building! -Nate
Price is always the largest issue for me. There's SO many black series figures and vehicles I skipped on purley because the world has just become too expensive to live in for me to justify dropping more than $25 on a toy purchase more than a few times a year.
Every time I hear most of the TBS Haslab suggestions I just facepalm. Most of those people don’t understand the scale and are so far in space they don’t realize they don’t even have the space to display what they’re asking for. That’s not even getting into the price, most people price themselves out by their own suggestions. Let’s not forget the “I can’t believe a multibillion dollar company needs crowdfunding for toys” crowd.
What if we got more diorama type Haslab? like half of the jedi council chambers? or an imperial meeting room. I think that would be really cool! especially for people who like the idea of having book nook type displays
The Black Series Snowspeeder is one of my favorite Star Wars collectibles!!
I would like a true 1/12 scale Millennium Falcon cockpit for Black Series. It would have to come with an exclusive Chewbacca that can sit down.
I feel like the absolute biggest and most reasonable size for 1/12th Star Wars vehicles and still be semi-accurate with scaling would be a TIE Fighter or X-Wing (which they designed and it was still too big).
Idk… I’d take Anakin and Obi-Wan’s interceptors even if that was the biggest scale vehicle we ever got.
Also, I feel like we could leave Haslab behind, I’d rather do the made to order offering.
Spittin’ facts guys👍🏻 I couldn’t agree more. Black Series scale is not really feasible for a Haslab. When an OT Rancor doesn’t fund there isn’t much hope for another project imo. Also, I don’t think a Haslab dio could compete against all of the 3D printing options that are available. Great topic, enjoyed the vid!
The Jedi starfighter would actually have to be bigger than it actually is in the movie to fight a figure in there, they could do one with Anakin and one with obi, you could get either one with both of their droids, and a buzzdroid. No teirs if you need teirs. Add an exclusive battle droid for obi wan, and an exclusive oil covered super battle droid. Or a clone pilot
I personally think Habro could do "made to order" short run SLS or other durable/high-quality 3D printing that doesn't require the expense of traditional molds for larger run injection molded ABS. Less risk to them and still release and satisfy the market. "Win/Win". :P
If not now, I think this may be a good option for Haslab as well as specialty, limited run toys in general.
I personally would love an A wing, maybe I’m in the minority on that though, as it is my personal favorite ship design.
To this day we still don’t have the pilot. Pretty cool design, I feel like the obvious inclusion would be the pilots from ROTJ, Arvel Crynyd, or Sila Kott, who side note: is a girl but for some reason is dubbed by a man in most versions of the film. I believe only one specific physical dvd/Blu-ray has her actual voice.
Anyway, an A wing pilot figure could lead into even some EU stuff with Corran Horn. Or even go rebels with a pilot Hera perhaps. It’s hard to say if it would sell. I think the pack ins would have to be like excellent to really get that drive to buy it.
I just don’t like that is TBS collectors get left out of the haslab fun.
I would personally love to get an A-wing as well. But I'm looking at this topic through the lens of the higher community as a whole. I can almost guarantee the community wouldn't show up for an A-wing Haslab. -Justin
Sadly, I kinda have to agree.
I think as a regular shelf item or made to order vehicle set and AT-RT with a clone would make a great set. They could do a plain grey one with a white clone first and then start re-packs with various clone battalions of your choice. It's an easy Black Series W for hasbro. Same with the BARC speeders. For OT I think the speeders that surround the sail barge could work as a Black Series item. There are still some untapped larger things we might see someday, Blurgs maybe?
As for Haslab, you guys are right people just don't understand scale. The Millenium Falcon would be about eleven feet long and nine feet wide. I STIILL see people say "How about a haslab Falcon?"...dude.... take your meds hahahaha
See, I could see Black Series doing the Made to Order model thats working with Marvel Legends, because there are people like you that backed the Rancor regardless of the tiers...
But i also could see that the "sticker shock" crowd being much bigger in Black Series collecting vs Marvel Legends collecting. I think a lot of ML collectors are more used to spending more for more things because of the BAF model. There are people who are totally comfortable buying a whole wave of ML figures just for a few of the main wave and the BAF at 150, so a 250 Haslab or a 150 MtO figure is just "oh, i can skip a retro card wave or BAF Wave to get 1 dream piece".
Whereas, Black Series really never incentivized collecting full waves. I think the majority of Black Series collectors pick up a few characters at a time, and dont go all in on full waves all at once, so when Hasbro says "hey, heres this piece that costs as much as 2 whole waves in one purchase", collectors arent used to that kind of sticker shock.
I think its just different mentalities for different lines
I’ve actually had the BMF Legacy Falcon hanging on my wall with fishing line since 2008. Maybe time I played with it
I think rather than going with ships, they should do more world building. Give us a boba fett throne or vadwer throne room or a holo table.
As long as you anchor to a rafter you can hang a X Wing. I have ceiling fans that are 5 times as heavy that havnt fallen in years while spinning like crazy. 50lbs fishing line will hold. That stuff doesn't break easy. Bring on the xwing...lol
After reading the comments, it seems most are reasonable and agree with your points. There are a few that didn't seem to get the fees hasbro pays for Star Wars and expect these larger ships to go in the $200-$300 range! They would be larger than the Ghost that went for $500.... some people have no clue. And even if the X-wing was under scaled at around 3', do people actually think at least 8000-10000 would be backed knowing it would probably be at least $500-600?
Great video guys and great points. I'd love to see MTO figure packs.
I would legitimately prefer an underscale LAAT similar to the 2003 cw playset but the imperial tanks are the only things on scale that could work, but it's not appealing to enough people to sell 😭
I agree completely. At most, we could get away with creatures, but even then. What would come with them as extras? Of course, the arena beasts could be done or a sarlacc with a small skiff, but they could release the creatures in mainline at a more expensive price but seen how the bloodfin sold. It might not be as successful for hasbro
For the record patches and stickers were actually mentioned severely by many fans.
As a collector of G I joe classifieds, I've got every haslab g I joe the problem I see is, is it worth the price? $300+ and the justification for it is electronics were added. Well you are getting into decent remote control territory. How you have 1/12 r/c for less a lot doesn't compute.. Some 3rd party companies produce a better more optioned vehicle for less the cost... $99 G I Joe Classifieds Vamp with 0 electronics vs $83 Air Eagle with electronics. If that had hasbro slapped on it it would be $200 cost or theyd add a pilot to the Air Eagle and price it out at $250. As the #1 toy company for the last 100 years they don't have a competitive better cost as 3d party?
I extreme wanted creatures in the black series ever since I knew about the rancor haslab (even though it failed). Everyone online will just tell me go collect the 3.75in figures then which I have been for years because they have the bantha, acklay, dewback, Masiff etc. I am super excited for the Blurg that just came out and the wolf creature from Ahsoka/Rebels BUT not that hyped because they aren't in 6" scale :( I think it would be easy for Hasbro to make the Masiff dog since we already have the tusken from a new hope, tusken chief from book of boba.
Enough small space ships they can make... And for the bigger ships, they can make em a smaller scale as long as the figure can be placed in the cockpit. I have a 3d printed ATST - they fit perfectly. Jedi starfighters ow yeah. The rancor should have backed, maybe try again and give better tiers. Instead of a millenium Falcon, make a interior diorama of the Falcon. Lots of opportunity if only they didn't lack the imagination.
