Why is the teaching of the artist excellent? I'll tell you. He's an adult, he doesn't need nerve-racking music in the background. He reduces what he wants to say. His English is clear. And he clearly has an understanding of what art and painting are. - Thank you! Greetings from Finland, Europe.
It's so good to see you again! I like your descriptions "keep it simple" and i love your humor between the lines "even i can make mistakes" thanks a lot for all Ben!
Love your longer more advanced painting videos. In particular the one explaining the colours in different parts if the face, there are so many basic instruction videos out there already. Would love some more advanced tips. Thank you Ben, I'm a big fan of your work!
Koszonom szepen! Thank you very much Maestro! Your recommendations and guidance helps us all to SEE and INTERPRET the world we live in. Even if I wouldn't be an aspiring amateur painter, even than, your recommendations would help me see the world around me much better and in more real way. Wish you great health and energy (that you have!) so you can keep us on the right track. And yes, sometimes to leave the painting and walk the dog! Blessings!
Thanks for choose Turkish language for subtitle. I like your videos. Its truly inspirational. Shows us how we can accomplish painting if we realy work hard for it.
Love that I found you! As a self taught beginner, I appreciate the time you take to explain each step. May I ask what the tool is called to measure distance between nose and beard? I really need one! Thank you again. Warmest regards, Stacey
Ben I gave up on myself and my art when I finished college. I found myself so stressed I began to dread the one thing that ever gave me a sense of peace and purpose. Last night I was watching landscape artist of the year and next up you tube suggested your videos which I watched with delight. You have inspired me to try again. Your gentle encouragment and simplicity of instruction is invaluable Thank you.
So nice to hear Patricia. I want you to know that I also was very stressed in the beginning. What helped me a lot was allowing myself to fail. I tried to ruin a portrait and not aiming for the highest, only to find the fun of painting. Every artist must make at least a hundred bad paintings. And we all started as an amateur.
The value of these tips is actually some real wisdom. When you're a beginner it is so easy to get down on yourself and forget that painting is a constant push and pull, constant editing, being able to detect problems, which is a skill and it is not easy. I imagine I will spend the rest of my life refining those skills lol. "Every professional artist starts as an amateur" thank you Mr. Ben :)
Hola, realmente me agrada mucho ver que usted da los mismos consejos que yo les doy a mis alumnos,y eso me hace sentir muy bien, pues lo admiro ,un abrazo grande desde Argentina ❤️🇦🇷
I'm an italian (and not professional) artist, i'm trying to reproduce the oil effect with some of my paintings, but with digital softwares. This video is an absolute masterpiece for me, it's very helpful. It seems to me that you are a really genuine person, with the TRUE desire to help others. Thanks Ben, you really are a good man.
As usual, fabulous video! I noticed a few things, even in this brief video: it appears that you use in this video, both gridlines and site size! Is this your usual method? Thank you!
@@lustenhouwer I appreciate greatly that you present many methods that simplify the process of ”drawing” an accurate image, and concentrate more on the painting process than the drawing process. It seems that your philosophy is that there are many ways to get an accurate drawing onto the canvas - - tracing, grid, site size, etc. - - and I appreciate that very much.
Thank you for generously sharing your knowledge with everyone. You are a natural-born teacher! We really appreciate your excellent lectures and demonstrations.
Thank you so much for this ! Just finding you after a day of being terribly discouraged and wondering if I can paint portraits after being a professional artist in another medium - I will check out your others videos and know that my desire is to grow in this ! Thank you!!!
I love what you said about too many details in the end. I totally agree. I struggle to not be overly detailed. But when I study Sargent's portraits, I'm amazed at what glorious results he achieved without being overly detailed. For example - hands! The hands he painted were amazing and yet some, when you look closely, are seriously not detailed. Great tips!
Indeed. Alway I see the temptation to add more details. It is a mistake to think that a portrait with more details gets more realistic. I aim for authentic more than realistic
I'm unsure if you're in Spain or Portugal. But I wanted to know if I traveled to your location, could I purchase classes with you over a week or ten day period. Would appreciate knowing this possibility.
I’ve never painted and I feel so overwhelmed and discouraged not knowing where to start or what to do at all. The few videos of yours I have watched so far have made me feel so much better, you really break it down so easily and show how the process is difficult even for pros. Thank you for sharing and I will be watching as many of your videos as possible!
Ben, fantástica manera de explicar lo fundamental. Viendo tus vídeos me identifico plenamente con tus apreciaciones e indicaciones. Gracias maestro por mostrarnos tu saber de manera tan sabia 👏👏👏👏
over the years I keep coming back to this old hobbie of painting, I have managed to become fairly skilled and pull my own family portraits, and I can tell, I have been in every video on youtube, and the amount of value you will get with Ben Lustenhouwer is ridiculous, for starters I use his skin colors, you will get experience knowledge like with any other, his maestry is insane I love seeing your videos Ben, thank you so much for all you do!
Thank you, ho trovato la lista della tua palette completa in descrizione, grazie. Non mi ero accorto che c erano i sottotitoli in italiano e non capivo tutto. Ma adesso ho trovato.
Thank you for teaching this. I am a beginner portrait painter and it's difficult for me to organize my thoughts for all the things I need to focus on. What you are saying here is so important to remember.
Ben, thanks so much for this video. I’m fascinated with your portrait videos. You take the time to explain important points. Portraiture painting can be a challenge. There are so many videos about it but not as detailed as yours. I enjoy your longer videos about portrait painting, more specific about when you use green and blue and how you manage these areas. As usual, this has been a great video. Blessings and take care.
I used your green with red to get a very dark color, plus a green, anyway I finished the painting. I'm gonna send you a picture of the painting if I ever get around to taking the picture buuut I finished the portrait painting mostly from my head. Thanks for the philosophy.
I can vouch for taking a photo of your work. I think something is finished or close to being finished, photograph it, and only then after looking at the photo notice an error or something missing. Odd but useful!
Why is the teaching of the artist excellent? I'll tell you. He's an adult, he doesn't need nerve-racking music in the background. He reduces what he wants to say. His English is clear. And he clearly has an understanding of what art and painting are. - Thank you! Greetings from Finland, Europe.
Thank you for your kind words.
Yes! Good and clear instruction with no distractions.
Agreed. Quality doesn’t need distraction and sensation. It speaks for itself.
You are absolutely right! I do enjoy also his Video lessons!❤❤Best wishes from Russia✌️✌️🇷🇺
Perfectly right its wisdom fr. Us 'thank you sir Ben.GOD BLESS
The thing I learned .. don’t do more details because you are painting a painting.. not a photograph . Well said
Indeed
You're teaching art and also philosophy. Your tips can be applied to art practice beyond portrait and oil painting. Thank you, Ben :)
Thank you
It's so good to see you again! I like your descriptions "keep it simple" and i love your humor between the lines "even i can make mistakes" thanks a lot for all Ben!
Thank you.

Love that I found you! As a self taught beginner, I appreciate the time you take to explain each step. May I ask what the tool is called to measure distance between nose and beard? I really need one! Thank you again.
Warmest regards, Stacey
That tool is a beam compass. Try to find it in internet.
Subscribed. Thank you sir for sharing your knowledge, more power and more subs to come sir.
I will do my best.

Do you think painting with the left palette is incorrect? I paint with my right hand.
No problem at all. As long as you feel comfortable and the light on your palette is sufficient
As usual, fabulous video! I noticed a few things, even in this brief video: it appears that you use in this video, both gridlines and site size! Is this your usual method? Thank you!
Not always. It depends on the photographs. This week I will talk about that in a new video.
