The illuminati actually have nothing to do with Christians none of their views are the same and the main thing with the Illuminati is that you will admit Lucifer Satan is your god not Christ or the god of Abraham. Their salot more stuff involved like the Cabala,Aeons emminations Monad. I try to be respectful of the religions SMT draws its lore from and the dude who made this video obviously does not. Christians seem like a easy target thats why I think they do it. The lore of SMT has grown 100x since the internet age,more tolerant more educated. The guys who originally wrote the lore we either Shinto or Buddhist and new very little of other faiths but that has since changed.

    Your presentations of SMT content are actually quite refreshing, I'm glad to see there's someone out there overthinking this stuff out of appreciation and bewilderment more than a desire for paltry financial gain, "clout," or early access to modern releases.
    I have to take issue with ii being "cooler" (was that the word you used?) than iv. The word implies that iv is awkward or unsure of itself in some way, but I think iv was nearly flawlessly executed as a narrative and a single player dungeon crawler/collector game. For me, the banality of the neutral ending and the arduous path to get it are the keystone that holds the game together as a great work of "video game" fiction. I think 4 and 4a are unfortunately the closest to a culmination of the vision that drove the series forward that we will get, whatever your region.
    But back to ii for some praise though. I can say I was DRIVEN to finish that game, despite it being "dated" mechanically and visually. It is a rocket blast forward from the gray wall of fog that is SMT 1. Not trying to belittle 1, I'm a die hard nocturne fan boy, and long ago I accepted that the situation was a "you had to be there" kind of thing, so I get that smt 1 is the same for a lot of people, and I'm a little jealous that I will never feel that way about it. I can't not love kyuuyaku though. Walking the hero around the map of megaten ii while listening to "Tokyo Adventurer" was more engaging than the whole of SMT 1 for me. The frankly pointless map in megaten 1 accessed by the L button was a nice aesthetic touch that made that game stand out to me for some reason I havent bothered to put into words. With kyuuyaku, I didnt feel like I was missing something that ultimately wasn't there, and to boot megaten ii somehow made me feel I was playing with GI Joes and mutant turtles in a hole i dug in the yard, not just seeking some revelation to justify/rectify the suffering of humanity.
    II is a trip though. The effort put into it paid off, for all the reasons you pointed out in this video and then some. That's the bottom line brother!
    Thanks for coming to my Megaten talk.

      To be clear, I like SMT4 also. It just feels like it waters down some of the aspects I like most about old MegaTen, but I'd say that's also just kind of the general trend of the series rn imo.

    • @BEHEMONAUT
      @BEHEMONAUT Рік тому

      @@KidCapes yeah, the direction it took is unfortunate. I think the old games were probably more "artistic" for reasons you were elaborating on in the 1.5 hour video I havent finished; they left a lot more to the imagination by necessity. I probably put iv on a pedestal just because most media is so bland to me these days, I left behind the traditional western inspired RPGs (square/soft) when the SNES retired. V had (has?) a lot of potential, in fact, the narrative of the tree could be a brilliant retcon, but it falls flat in execution so far. I guess there's still time, it's not like they can't make some riveting sequels that could further incorporate the old titles with what V established, but I doubt they will. Anyway, how I see it, V is like paying for a mansion that is really just the facade of a mansion with a door that leads to a studio apartment with no plumbing. I've had way more fun with games that didn't cost me 90 dollars for the complete package. I'd pay it again though for the chance of a more faithful to the series entry in the future. For better or worse, Sega is well aware of that.

    Wdym he does it for no reason? He gives an elaborate speech where he clearly states it’s because humanity is beyond saving (and also because it’s sinful).
    I assume I checked it with the Japanese script long ago so I don’t think it’s just another thing Gideon added. But please correct me if you think it is.
    This doesn’t discount all the analysis, it just seems weird to ignore it. Especially since it ties to the utilitarianism stuff as well as the neutral route quote.
    Also, in the case that Zayin let YHVH just be and do what he wants, in what way would the people be thralls/servants? I guess insofar as it’s an allegory for the US, it’d just meant Japan being a colony. But what about the in-game universe? Just exclusive worship?
    Anyway, good video. And I agree about Zayin being up there. I don’t think there’s many mainline characters one could analyze in this much depth.

    • @KidCapes
      @KidCapes  2 роки тому +5

      If you mean the explanation he gives on the Law route, that is in the original script (granted it's slightly different, i.e. Zayin says "humans made mistakes so the world is a wasteland" vs "humans sinned against God so the world is ruined"). There's no deep reason I didn't mention that line specifically though, I just figured I proved the point without it. Retroactively, I probably should've though tbh.
      To answer your second question: In-universe, honestly, I have no idea. They don't ever talk about it, and going by Gabriel's speech, it doesn't seem like YHVH liked the authoritarianism of the Millennium either. Maybe the logic is he thought that he specifically didn't like that they were serving this different idea of himself? It's not really clear in the narrative what exactly YHVH wanted after his plans were accomplished or how different this would be from the game's Law ending, just that he had some sort of vaguely negative intentions for mankind.
      Thanks for the kind words though, I always appreciate your comments.

      Another question I remember now: where does the game say that King frost is a ploy of the center? I always thought it was just another demon terrorizing Millennium (hence why the bishop sends you to beat it).

    • @KidCapes
      @KidCapes  2 роки тому +5

      King Frost working for the Center is said in the 44th Visionary Item "Ice Crown", Kazuma Kaneko Works 2, and the SMT2 Devil Encyclopedia. The SMT2 Devil Encyclopedia actually describes it as being sort of like a demonoid.
      I don't really *know* why the Center would do this, I think it's kinda stupid honestly. If it's a religious center wouldn’t the people who did actually live there be followers of the Order of Messiah? The people who didn't want to worship... just wouldn't be there. That's why it's basically deserted. It's weird.

  • @jacopoarmini7889
    @jacopoarmini7889 2 роки тому +4

    What I've always found bothering is that SMT's YHVH is seen as this force of blind obedience, while in the Bible he is far more nuanced. Sure, God is about establishing authority and hierarchy, but he also hates tyranny, as seen in Exodus. God wants the just to prosper and the wicked to perish. I see the YHVH of SMT as a sort of false God created by humanity, and not the biblical God, Zayin removed this spiritual cancer for the will of the true God.

    • @KidCapes
      @KidCapes  2 роки тому +8

      ATLUS is definitely intending YHVH to represent the biblical God. The very idea that "God wants the just to prosper and the wicked to perish." is what they're challenging because those terms, like good and evil, are subjective. In a way, in-universe YHVH is sort of a "false God" in the sense that he tries to present himself as objective, when that doesn't really exist. Granted, it's worth noting that ATLUS's PoV is probably not going to be charitable considering the country's history with the religion and the staff's own political views.
      That said, if you just meant that's how you interpret the story outside of the creative intent, then that's fine. Just wanted to clear this up because I know a good amount of people are confused about YHVH's depiction in the series.

    • @jacopoarmini7889
      @jacopoarmini7889 2 роки тому +1

      @@KidCapes the issue is that God's existence is a manifestation of the objectivity of good, since God is the embodiment of said goodness. Then again, Shin Megami Tensei's message is more akin to eastern religions' idea of goodness (and reasonably so), and I like to think that God is so extreme due to him trying to embody all of humanity's idea of a perfect being and going insane in the process.

    • @KidCapes
      @KidCapes  2 роки тому +5

      YHVH is not the manifestation of the objectivity of good, if anything it's the manifestation of *an idea* of the objectivity of good. That doesn't mean that he, himself, is actually objectively good, because that doesn't exist. Like granted, he probably sees himself as good, I wouldn't say he's trying to trick people. However, one of the biggest themes of the series is that "good" and "evil" are inherently narrow terms. In the context of SMT, YHVH is a foreign god that presents a very specific lens of "good," projects this onto others, then persecutes them if they don't fit in line with those ideas.

    • @jacopoarmini7889
      @jacopoarmini7889 2 роки тому +5

      @@KidCapes I'm sorry, I meant the "irl" YHVH, SMT's is of course a demon like all the others and thus limited by human observation. Hence trying to be "the perfect being" makes him the ultimate insane tyrant, it is hurtful as a Christian to see him portrayed in such an unapologetic light, but that's how interpretations go, and in my opinion it makes sense.

    • @KidCapes
      @KidCapes  2 роки тому +6

      I'm saying that the ideas that the Order of Messiah (and by extension Satan) are in part meant to reflect a specific conspiratorial idea of socialism via the New World Order, not an actual ideology people in real life hold. Satan representing capitalism in this lens is not contradictory because the entire idea of the conspiracy is that there is a secret group of elites (capitalists) attempting to bring about said """socialism.""" The use of these terms "capitalism" and "socialism" here is colloquial. They're not actually referring to dictionary definitions of economic systems. In the context of the quote itself, they were basically just saying that "capitalism" is, in essence, utilitarian, and is therefore Satan's domain.

    • @lunanuna8144

      That said, yes, I do think what they meant by capitalism is effectively the same as "conspiratorial socialism." Especially since, by virtue of equating capitalism to this idea of utilitarianism, that means it's also being related to all of these same ideas in the New World Order (i.e. machines, loss of identity, etc.) That's why I think they should be lumped together. I wouldn't just think of them as "capitalism" and "socialism," but rather a shorthand for some sort of totalitarianism that treats humans like numbers, not people.
