Joan was fabulous in this scene. She is so underrated as an actress as this scene demonstrates a subtlety in Alexis' grief. This should have been an Emmy nominated scene.
My issue with Joan in this scene is that didn't give her enough dialogue or enough time to execute the scene. It looks like hey were trying to pull off something similar to the moment in Gone With the Wind when Scarlett has a meltdown in front of Aunt Pitty's in Atlanta and starts hitting Rhett before she falls into his arms crying. If they had written some better dialogue for Alexis and extended the scene maybe 20-30 more seconds it could've been phenomenal
If John F./Blake had held her from behind while she's turned to the window (not that slow walk over & "I really don't want to touch you" embrace) then it would've been less clunky and made sense; her accepting the consolation with vulnerability then remembering the wrongs and beating on his chest before collapsing into grief. They shared a kid whom always loved him more and her less so it makes sense for her character's emotional arc. My issue (3yrs hence from your post, lol) is that Joan is the equivalent of a tennis player here having to generate all the pace on her own in this scene.
