Fun fact: Aidan Hutchinson, after two NFL seasons, is almost halfway to Lawrence Taylor's career INTs. Hutch already has 4, Taylor had 9 in his career. WILD

This video is a good example of why he needs to be double-teamed... Almost any time he's not, he's going to spell trouble for the offense. He's either double or triple teamed about 4 out of every 5 plays, yet still manages 11.5 sacks, and good run defense. Along with being second in the NFL in pressures, all the forced fumbles, fumble recoveries, and interceptions, it's hard to not call him elite.
He vanishes for weeks on end. I’d say teams are containing him just fine. Most of his sacks come in just a few games.

No, he doesn't disappear. Some teams strategize against Detroit to double or even triple team him every play, in which case of course his numbers are gonna be modest. Others only double him sometimes, and he'll consistently get loose then. How often do you see any defender make a play while getting doubled? Just about never, that's what I thought.
@@thomaswatkins3686 He was injured after that interception in the Carolina game, but played through it. The games after that he wasn't the same presence he normally is because of that hit he took on his leg, but got better towards the end of the season.

that hit he took against Carolina set him back a few games imo. Took him a while to get that elite explosiveness and leg strength back and get home. 4.5 sacks through the first 4 games, 2 sacks over the subsequent 10 games.

Lions fan here too. Agree 100%. He's close. If he has that monster year, or if one the elite players has a dropoff, I think we makes elite tier.

Yes obviously, a thigh shot hobbled him for awhile but he is clutch hutch. Always making something happen when we absolutely need it with almost no help. Sky is the limit
Agree with your take. As a Lions fan, I'm not quite ready to put Hutch in the truly elite tier yet. He got better at holding contain but can still over pursue and went through a long stretch last year where he wasn't making those impact plays with any consistency. With an improved secondary behind him, an improved DT position, and hopefully a better opposite edge position (though what we get out of Davenport/Houston/Betts is still a huge question mark) we might just see Hutch take a big step this year. If so, that significantly helps our chances to repeat in the division and maybe take the NFC as a whole. If Hutch repeats his performance from last year, I wouldn't call him a bust by any stretch, but that would tell me that he's probably not going to reach that final top tier.
Just like a Qb being good. It takes a good O Line. With Hutch he needs some help on the D line. I really believe with the addition of DJR and the secondary should be WAYYYY better. It will give Hutch more time to get more sacks.

Yeah I'm a Lions fan but even I wouldn't put him in that elite class with the names you mentioned. He certainly has the potential to get there but I'd like to see him actually finish the play and get more sacks.

I'm very surprised you didn't bring up the fact Hutchison misses so many sacks. He should have way more sacks to end 2023,but QBs somehow slipped perfectly under his arms almost every time and it's so annoying to watch
yeah a lot of that was the lack of push from the interior. Hutch looked so much better when he at least had Mac getting some interior pressure. But when a QB has so much space to step up it gives to easy of an escape route to slip away from edge rushers. Part of the reason that spin move needed to be utilized. So he could get more shallow with he pressure and actually get to the QB. The pressure from the middle will allow Hutch to diversify his moves even more because he's not as limited to attacking that inside shoulder of the tackle. He can attack the outside and pick up those 0.5 sacks where he just leads the QB right into Reader and Mac.
It's because he has those short arms remember?
