Just some additional info, Game in Ebisen is famous in Japan for Serious Retro Gamers. The main purpose of for for people for submitting World Records in score attacks for Shmups. Which is why a lot of extra care is put in the condition of cabinets and the environment of the game center. Thank you for making the video!
Thanks! I'm pretty excited to hunt down more of these gems for sure, we're finding them a lot on the live streams too so it's worth making a series out of it
God damn dude, these videos just keep getting better and better. Jim and I went there last week. The guy working there was really chill. Makes me wanna buy an arcade cabinet.
It looks, from his smile, like you made that arcade owner’s day featuring his arcade. That’s really awesome! I’d definitely welcome more arcade videos alongside the usual content. Maybe a field trip to arcade Betty sometime, near the Noto peninsula? I found out about that one through an anime (insomniacs after school) and saw heartbreaking photos of their setup after the earthquake.
Great video Pim, not many of these places near us anymore. Great idea aswell. Thanks for all your hard work behind the scenes putting all the extras in.
Oh I remember this it was on yutas livestream where you almost lost your wallet and yuta lost his sunglasses 😞 but that was fun man love the duo of yuta and pim it's like a father and son moments that's good to see 😊
Gunbird wasn't for the Neo Geo it was actually just a psikyo board, but fun fact people buy the Psikyo board and hack them to have like 4 psikyo games on them
I visit Tokyo every year for Tokyo Game Show (I'm a game dev) and in my off time I hunt around for great old arcades. Definitely adding this to my list for this year's trip! Thanks for sharing!!
Dude this video was great! Loved how chill this little arcade was and you can tell the Owner/staff really care about it. The idea of most of the cabinets using headphone jacks is actually brilliant. Liking this arcade series stuff you're doing. Also always love the IRL streams. Keep it up man!
What a great video. Never know that recording the arcades was a thing! Sadly i missed the livestream. Arcades center would be the only exclusion to go out 🤣
Haven't heard of this one ! I *love* SHMUPS, so I will definitely check this out soon. I'm usually i'm just parked in Akihabara's HEY! at all times, as they have a metric-ton of SHMUP's from old to new. The game cabinets there aren't set to silent, but they all do have headphone jacks and they provide several racks of headphones you can grab and use! So you don't have to bring your own. Though i do, pro-tip: Buy a 3.5mm to BT adapter so you can just use your noise cancelling wireless BT headsets for maximum concentration on the cabinet you're playing on. What I also like about HEY! is that they've retrofitted all their cabinets with IC card readers so you can just pay with SUICA, and not have to bother with small-change :)
Love Hey! But wanted to make videos about the lesser known little game centers around Tokyo, there's a bunch of ones like this and imo they're all unique in their own way. Def making a video on Hey at some point tho it's a legendary place. The Suica system always makes me spend so much tho it's super dangerous haha
cool to see this arcade again! had no idea it was actually super quiet but I suppose that helps concentration for getting those high scores! looking forward to seeing more stuff like this in the future.
Thanks for filming these. Good to see retro arcades are still alive. I have an Astro City of my own. But if I lived in Japan, I wouldn't need to own one.
Very cool. This was the first time coming across your channel and I instantly subscribed. I live in Gunma Prefecture, and there aren't any dedicated retro arcades here that I know of. I do not believe I've ever seen Gunbarich in the wild. Nice find!
Didn't know it was yours, thank you for making it! (I'm familiar with your work and will be visiting your exhibition later this month haha) It popped up when searching for Astro City flyers for the b-roll, I added your stuff in the description.
Very quaint retro arcade. I can find myself spending weekends here getting maximum bang out of my buck. The cafes and restaurants nearby are definitely a plus.
For getting newer parts for the games they might know small independent manufacturers who can make the parts. Great video. I wish we had something like this in my area.
How did I not sub to you sooner? Great Japan content dude! Definitely following. I'm a huge fan of shmups myself. I especially love the ones on Mega Drive and PC Engine :)
Best advice someone told me when i was in japan before you leave arcade most have a sign advertising an app. this app shows You most locations of arcades, retro, etc plus shows you which ones work or need maintenance etc, very handy. I found so many arcade places when i was there from the 80s which seemed very limited to find.
So the string thing: If I'm guessing, it's probably a competitive challenge thing where you can only move up and down. Since the arcade can record your runs, I imagine it's some sort of nuzlocke scenario
Guess the live stream is over it was good a new hard Off but the stream and chat kept going in and out much love Pim enjoy the day you were finding and buying everything
Yeah we've got some of those coming! The thing is that tournaments are usually strict with no filming rules plus we like to go early in the day as to not disturb the players. There's some fighting game acades that we're gonna hit up soon tho so keep an eye out.
Such a cool little gem, would love to visit on my next trip to Japan :) Don't know for certain, but string may have been for screen testing/alignment and was left on by mistake? Can't think of a game that would need it as a guide during play The SNK MVS Arcade machines (as well as the home AES) had a headphone jack on the front so you could play with headphones. Clearly a competitive edge to be had in some cases, but love the immersion you can achieve that way and will be hooking up my AES to headphones most of the time :)
You should check out Retro Pia 22, or formerly known as Pier 21. It's a great local arcade in Kodaira, known for holding a tournament called The Masters for Tetris The Grand Master players
gunbarich?? dont tell me where it is!! i have a sickness with Arkanoid.. PTSD at intro song and love the game at same time. did play it a fair bit along with other games at local arcade. they seem to have stored/sold it for time being..
I was told by boss man to come here and talk shit. I don't like coffee, there I said it! NO but seriously love the vids. Are there any game center bars?
hi, i currently live in japan, would you happen to know if this arcade has deathsmiles? it's my favorite schmup and it would be nice if i don't have to go to hey in akiba all the time to get my deathsmiles on arcade hardware fix
Would have loved to hear the background noise alone without you video-bgm throughout the video. But nice video and a great tip for an arcade I must visit in around a month…
Who is making crt these days. I worked on tvs in the crt days and not many crts last into the 30s. If I could buy a new crt monitor from Sony or RCA from the 90s with a new crt I would. I miss glass tvs
From what I see at these game centers is they have their own local supply of them. Never new but there are still places that deal in parts for these machines. Usually it's Sega/Gigo or Taito themselves as they own the Game Centers. Like I said in the video tho, no idea where a locally owned place like this gets the parts but I'm sure they'd have some insider knowledge. Good question to ask next time tho.

This arcade series is a fantastic idea Pim. You're out and about each week anyway. The first place you found was jaw dropping.
yeah, i know, cha'lie, this place is great
Agree with this so much
Thanks! I'm pretty excited to hunt down more of these gems for sure, we're finding them a lot on the live streams too so it's worth making a series out of it
@@4amLaundry we're in japan i mean what is the name of the adress in japan
I found your channel via your arcade videos. I'd love to see more tours of Japanese arcades!
Shmup Junkie would have a hear attack in this place.
Air conditioned, quiet, and nearby to food places... Perfection

@@nunavalorant5384Probably fall when it's not as hot and we can stay out longer.
who is father who is son?
Gunbird wasn't for the Neo Geo it was actually just a psikyo board, but fun fact people buy the Psikyo board and hack them to have like 4 psikyo games on them
You're right lol idk why I said that, it feels like such a NeoGeo type shooter tho

What a great video. Never know that recording the arcades was a thing! Sadly i missed the livestream. Arcades center would be the only exclusion to go out 🤣

I love Tetris as well, there's just something zen to see the mistakes you made, get confronted by them and trying to make 'm disappear.
It's especially fun on that giant screen with arcade controls, super chill experience. Same as Columns btw
Very quaint retro arcade. I can find myself spending weekends here getting maximum bang out of my buck. The cafes and restaurants nearby are definitely a plus.
That place seems like the kind of place I would love to spend an afternoon in summer.
Amazing video! This arcade and the coffee shop near it both seem very nice.
Love videos that shed the light pon Tokyo’s more off the beaten path spots

I like the idea of silent arcade being and oldman i enjoy quite places i can rest my cane and play some good old-fashioned arcade games 🕹
If you like to know in Takadanobaba there is 2 big retro arcades, Mikado and Natsuge.
i love seeing cozy arcades
I miss the old Sega arcades in Japan back in the 90s
An idea: could you do a series focusing on arcades that are synonymous with particular fighting games. Maybe interviews with the top players
Yeah we've got some of those coming! The thing is that tournaments are usually strict with no filming rules plus we like to go early in the day as to not disturb the players.

That's a good point, maybe it was for calibrating the geometry? I just never saw it before so it caught me off guard lol
Hey man, thats fantastic!
Ekoda! I used to go there to play my favorite video games. There existed three or four game centers but It’s almost twenty years ago.
This is my favorite gaming channel these days. Anyone who appreciates good information will visit on my next visit to Japan. I always support you.
great video!!
love the arcades

Pim back in action to show us how’s it done in Japan
Awesome series.

I would love to be able to play games in this arcade, it’s perfect
Hopefully it'll be around for a long time :)

It's on the list! They have some old old candy cabs over there haha
Japan looks like it’s the best for introverts 🙂↕️ sign me up
Gotta get some dedicated gaming headphones dude!
Imagine those days
Place like this look like an Oasis, im pretty sure some hardcore gamers train in those kind of place before a shmup or a fighting game event.
Love the necro 3rd strike soundtrack, did they have 3rd strike?
No but they did have SFII: The World Warrior
Something different than the very expensive arcades in Netherlands.
Is there a list somewhere of retro game arcades in Tokyo that includes places such as this one?
gunbarich?? dont tell me where it is!! i have a sickness with Arkanoid.. PTSD at intro song and love the game at same time. did play it a fair bit along with other games at local arcade. they seem to have stored/sold it for time being..

I didn't see it unfortunately, the maps link in the description has their info so I'd call and ask but chances are small.
@@4amLaundry thanks for the quick response!

Asking myself how - so far - 2 dislikes could happen for that. Its simply Amazing!
Some people only want a specific certain type of video I guess? It's not stopping me from branching out from time to time haha
There I commented
visit Mikado bro
In the editing process as we speak ;) Mikado is big, legendary and with a lot of history so I want to make the video right.
Next video, visiting the loudest one in Japan!
Hahaha that'd just be any other pachinko parlor
Would have loved to hear the background noise alone without you video-bgm throughout the video.
But nice video and a great tip for an arcade I must visit in around a month…
You can hear it at 8:41
Do you live in Japan
That's sad, it destroys the atmosphere and vibe of arcades.
I can see that perspective, some people just prefer a quiet place I guess. Plenty of loud arcades around of you prefer otherwise
I'd get kicked out because I yell at games
aight avgn chill 💀
