  • You asked, so we made it happen. We'll be making up a few small batches of these SAA cowboy leather gun belt and holster rigs that will be available for purchase. But again, they'll be very small batches. We're talking 5- 7 at a time. So if you want one make sure you sign up.
    *We're not currently taking custom orders*
    For now, we're only offering holsters that will fit 1873 single action army guns and similar models. And for the gun belts, we're offering ammo loops in .22lr, .38spl/.357 mag and .45 colt. Down the road we'll add more models, barrel lengths, calibers and styles. Thanks for your patience and understanding.

    To keep the belt on your waist, the rough or "nappy" texture provides friction helping to keep the belt from sliding up when you draw your pistols.

    Great stuff! I actually got into leatherwork and made my first project, a gun belt, by watching a combination of your videos and Sam Andrews, and it turned out great. Glad you guys take the time to do videos like this, because it's led me onto several other projects and a hobby/trade I truly love.

    Something I pick up from Sam Andrews is putting some scrap carpet down when using the sawing action that way you can keep the leather flat on the table.. It works great especially when cutting thicker leather

    Great gun fighter rig.
    That said I would have added a 4oz liner to the holster so you have smooth leather inside an out. Traditional rigs were made from a single piece of leather. but our modern reproductions are all lined. Beautiful work none the less.

    I have made several leather holsters in my lifetime. I would never make one where the trigger is so exposed as is shown in your photos. A branch or stick could easily engage the trigger. Maybe it would be an advantage in a fast draw competition but I want my triggers covered. A tip for shooters who use commercial holsters. The snaps will wear on the bluing inside. Save worn out leather wallets and cut and glue on a piece of the thin leather to cover the snap. I used to save my mother's leather pocketbooks to make my holsters. I don't think ladies carry them as much anymore but they were like gold. I even used the locks and straps.

    • @SWAMPHUNTER644
      @SWAMPHUNTER644 4 місяці тому

      @@stephengagliano3831 True but sometimes the hammer itself can be pulled back and cocked and not noticed. With age, hearing often fades and sounds go unnoticed. I prefer not to have anything exposed. Also, some of my guns are double action on first pull of the trigger and single action after. No safety.

    The only success I've had with the fuzzy bits, is to sand it with rough, then fine grit. The rough gets rid of the big bits, the fine almost burnishes it. Holster and belt came out great!

    • @whitandpark
      @whitandpark  4 роки тому +1

      Thanks Rob! You'll notice, that's what I did. I used 80 on the wheel and then finished it with 320. Usually that works, but the leather was too loose, all the sanding in the world would only make it worse.

    So normally when I burnish I do as you do and use just water (less is more). When I run into "the fuzzies", I'll use something else that will bind them down like gum trag or tokonole, although I'm typically not that fancy and grab the gum trag. It tacks it just ever so slightly enough to make them stay down. I learned that when I wanted to slick down the flesh side for whatever reason because water just doesn't do the job long term. The only issue I have is you have to be very careful to only get it on the edges. It can reek havoc on staining and oiling if you get it on the surface.
