Hey fellow N64 controller enthusiasts I have made an updated guide for the new version of Steam. Check it out here: ua-cam.com/video/XjbGFqBKgqM/v-deo.html
I saw in one of your comments that you were looking into doing a video specifically on Project64.. If you can do that, you'd be my hero. This is hurting my brain trying to get every button to work.
@@DrMat It sucks that Nintendo didn't make these easy, but I guess they have zero motivation to do so. So far, using Steam I have been able to get the joystick working but not the C buttons. And using Betterjoy instead, I have been able to get the c buttons working but not the joystick. Its absolutely maddening.
Thank you. Im playing Diddy Kong Racing on my Steam Deck n using my cases kickstand. N using this controller.. i needed help config the buttons though!
I hope you find this useful. Any questions ask me here. If you want to see me play more games with the N64 controller put your suggestions here too! Oh and maybe subscribe it would be very appreciated!
Unfortunately it does not work plugged in by default. You need to find 3rd party programmes which make the controller be read as an Xbox. But these aren't great I'd recommend connecting with Bluetooth
You just need hold the little round sync button on top of the N64 controller until the lights move. Then go to Bluetooth settings and add a new device it should be in the list as N64 controller. It should show these steps early in this video. Good luck!
So I’m trying to play fps games with this controller (don’t ask me why lol) and I want to make the dpad act as left stick and the joystick as right stick, but I can’t get it figured out, any help would be great
That's weird I'm not sure why it would look different. If you can get it to work like mine then it would be really easy to assign the d-pad as left stick and stick as right following similar steps shown. Swap the right stick button inputs I used and assign them to the left stick directions.
I currently don't have access to my PC to double check but maybe you need to update your steam client? I'm on windows if you are on Mac/Linux might be different?
@@DrMat Im on windows and my steam is up to date, i was able to figure it out sort of on a different game(making the dpad left and the joy right) than the one i was initially trying to set up, but i wasnt able to map all of the buttons, specifically the ones on the top of the controller and one of the c buttons
How odd. I will try and have a play tonight and if I get it to work will send the link to the config. What game(s) are you trying to do the configs for?
My controller rarely shows up in bluetooth, and when it does it immediately disconnects while the controller starts infinitely showing the syncing lights forever
I've had this before. Try removing the saved Bluetooth connection from the computer and trying again from the beginning. I have to do this most times I connect it. Hope it helps
That's strange it should show up on your PC's Bluetooth devices screen if you hold down the sync button on top. Not sure why it wouldn't unless it's connecting to your switch if it's been left on?

Ordered mine today. Looking forward to using it.😊

Yes it is on my to-do list will hopefully get it working before the end of the year. Sorry about the wait!

I am having difficulty getting this to work plugged in to my asus rog ally when using project 64 emulator.
It wont allow me to map buttons.??

Ok thanks . How to connect via bluetooth?@@DrMat

Anyone found a way to not have to remove and resync the controller every single time?
Does it works the same using ares emulator as a non-steam program?
Hi! I know this video is a bit old by now but is threre any way I can use this to connect to pj64?
I've not tried it but I have read you can boot pj64 through steam which might work?
Can i use this playing the mario 64 emulator?
I got a 3rd party one and on the deck the A button doesn't register as any buttons
Hello, Can you show me how to connect this to Project 64 emulator with all buttons mapped.?
Yes I still need to try that out. If I'm successful I'll make a vid on it.
Thanks.Just for clarification i am using a rog asus ally handheld pc.@@DrMat
I mean doesn't he show what to use to Map each button? Just config the controller to the same buttons in the emulator settings

Also my big picture mode is totally different and I don’t have the same interface for configuration

Does this still happen to you? I ha e never had problems with the Bluetooth
Did you get vibration to work? I can’t. 😢
I need to double check but I'm pretty sure it did work for me.
can you make a new video this one is outdated
Yes I plan to make one in the next month as I know the steam OS has changed. Stay tuned!
My controller is being detected as a ps3 controller now? It was working yesterday.
I've not had that problem sorry. No idea why it would think it was a PS3 controller. Maybe try disabling playstation controller support on steam?
my controller doesn't wanna connect its weird?
