Lee Enfield Mad Minute Challenge Attempt #2
Вставка
- Опубліковано 14 сер 2013
- My 2nd attempt try at the Lee Enfield Mad Minute Challenge put on by fellow UA-camr "The Cosmoline Crate". The challenge was to see how many rounds you can fire accurately (minimum of fifteen) at 100 yards, in one minute. This time I used some ball ammo rather than cast bullets.

That is a pristine Lee-Enfield.
Looks like one of the Irish ones. Does the legend at the end say it was made in 2013?
My father gave me a no.4 mk2 wrapped in cosmoline when I turned 16 it looks identical to this rifle.
Somebody probably had it refinished and made the value 30% less than in original condition.
@@swatterbirdwatts6680no, they were sold on the US market in the 90’s in cosmoline and wrapped around n a bandage along with more cosmo to keep it extra fresh for the future owners. It’s basically a 69 year old brand new rifle. The military opted in favor of the semiautomatic L1A1
Who needs a Garand when you've got the Mad Minute?
Don't have to come off the stock or the sights with the Garand.
Royal Marine Cmndo speciality and accurate
Me.
A Garland us both faster and easier to shoot lol
@@spraynpray Neither with the Lee Enfield you can chamber another round without removing your face from the weapon one of main advantages it had over it's bolt action rifles.
Beautiful rifle.
Thanks.
I love this because I know how he feels, 303 isn't cheap.
My Dads ww2 gun.
He used it for rabbiting on leave and almost shot the vicars wife :-)
Make your own
Where do u buy ur .303
Fired the Enfield when I was in Army Cadets at high school, Great rifle.
Rob Tro sounds like you went to an awesome school mate
Got the chance to fire the Lee Enfield in the cadets as well. I swear that the guy in front of me (he was just a wee lad) was moving backwards every time he fired the gun
@@ruger9617 we had a guy like when I was a Cadet too. Skill at Arms and every 5 round he had to get up and move forward again. Learned to shoot on a .22 Lee Enfield and shot the .303 too. Wonderful rifle it is a damn shame Cadets in Canada are using .177 Daisy Pellet rifles today.
Me too! my shoulder still hurts!
Tom Mabon Exactly what I remember. I’m sure the lad before me had to keep crawling back forward after each shot! That maybe memory poetic license but the kick I felt, was real.
As a cadet attached to the Queen's Westminsters T.A. where my two brothers were serving their five years post-National Service time, in 1956 I went with them to their shooting week-end at the ranges at Bisley in Surrey. There was a veteran KRRC sergeant who I saw fire some twenty aimed rounds in a timed minute. His head, shoulders and rifle did not move as he shot. He did not rest his right elbow on the ground. he didn't need to as he was perfectly balanced and he needed his right hand to load and fire.. That is what the 1914 BEF riflemen were taught to do, and Von Kluck's regiments were convinced that they were facing machine guns.
Two years later I achieved a marksman's rating on the SMLE but only a first class classification on the Bren. Great days, when we were allowed to be English.
When someone else pays for the ammo you can get pretty proficient. If someone wants to give me a big pile of free 303 I'm sure I would get better at this, but as I have to pay for my own ammo my live fire experience is limited. It would be interesting to see the group/pattern of those twenty rounds that sergeant fired in a minute.
Not bad for a colonial!
If some ammo company would like to sponsor me I'm sure I could improve a lot.
you need to find some .303 PPU for $5 :)
I need a Lee Enfield in 7.62x39, surplus is still at the $5 or less mark.
I see my comment here is drawing in plenty of 'engagement' - whoop! I made a new video too, check it out.
LOL there has 7.62x51 NATO
This gun is always my favorite because the bolt just smooth
They are fairly smooth in operation.
I love the British 303
I'm fond of it myself.
Yeah one of the only British guns I'd like to have considering the era. I personally as Brit believe US had better wepoans. But I like the look and would be feel and the Enfield.
Can you believe In WW1 that the first few years the standard Load was 5x10 Rounds totalling = 50 rounds. I heard during the last year or second last year they moved it up to 10x10 Rounds totalling = 100 Rounds.
That was minimums though so I can expect If you needed more you probably carried more.
But I see what you mean beautiful gun If It was a woman I'd shag It.
Lee Enfield is my favorite old gun .. its so beautiful
beautifull gun
Thanks.
Beautiful Enfield!
Thanks, it's a nice example for sure.
Great video, thanks for posting. I have a similar unissued No4 Mk2 in the safe, haven't worked up the courage to get it dirty yet!
Prob. The best looking lee enfield IV seen. way to go keeping it nice! I want one bad, I grew up on that gun. I could hit a tick with that thing.
The first full calibre rifle I ever fired as an army cadet in about 1967. Working class British children of that era normally weighed about 3/5s of Sweet Fanny Adams when soaking wet. After 3 rounds without hitting the target my platoon sergeant told me to aim at the targets feet. Didn't do too bad after that. A lovely weapon
Full power 303 is a bit much for most kids to be shooting.
My dad was given a Lee Enfield Jungle Carbine (Its like this rifle but with a shorter barrel) with his name engraved on it when he retired from the military. Fired almost 3 boxes of rounds on it. It sometimes suffer from losing its zero. It was an inherent problem with it. However an amazing rifle and an absolute pleasure to shoot it.
That's a nicer retirement gift than a watch.
Wow that is one clean Enfield my man! beautiful rifle!
Thanks. It was new in the wrap when I bought it in the early 1990's.
Certainly is a lot quieter than I thought it would be. Sounds more like a whisper than a gun shot.
ماشاءالله للحين محتفظ بهذه البندقيه عندي ورثتها عن جدي قام بشرائها عام 1940ميلادي
At mons Germans thought they were facing machine gun fire
Supposedly.
Can you pull the bolt full stroke without removing your check from the butt and maintaining sight picture? Pretty sure you can with the .303, but definitely can’t with the Mauser.
I find that when shooting the Lee Enfield in the prone position the end of the bolt comes perilously close to hitting me so I get my head out of the way. This is not the case for every one as we have different physical builds. I apparently have a longer neck than lots of people and so my head ends up further forward, people with shorter necks probably have no problem with this. Sitting/standing/kneeling changes the relationship of how the rifle sits and there is less problem of getting the bolt in the face.
As for Mauser rifles the bolt does indeed come back further and the end of the bolt will definitely hit me in the face when cycled prone.
Of course stock length also effects these things as does the amount and thickness of clothes one is wearing.
Wow what a fabulous rifle. I had one back in the U.K in the 1990's. Mine was in very nice condition, nothing like as nice as that one of yours. It looks brand new, very nice.
Thanks. The rifle was new in the "mummy wrap" and coated with cosmoline when I got it back in the early 1990's.
Got to shoot one at my local range. Ammo was pricey but boy is it fun to empty that thing as fast as possible.
Yeah, gets expensive quick shooting .303 fast....
No.4 Mk2 - chambered in 1 dollar coins!
Nice work and oh that Lee Enfield looks nice and has a smooth action. Have you tried using the third finger on the trigger trick? I wonder if it really improves the shooting.
I'm not a fan of the "middle finger" thing. Personally I think it is just a stunt.
@@314299 Thanks, it's something I wouldn't mind trying, but with the cost of 303 ammo...
Wish mine looked that immaculate. That looks like it was just unwrapped. Sweet! Mine looks a little battle worn.
Incredible technology.
1890's tech at it's best.
Great looking rifle; Loved seeing one being fired by someone else. I lucked into one like this (blonde wood, perfect finish on steel) and so far its been a safe queen. The guy who sold it to me said "Shoot it!" when I told him I was treating it with pet gloves. I think he was right. Its not gonna go into some museum one day or something ;-)
They're super fun. SHOOT IT!
Given the number made there are quite a number of museum quality pieces out there either in private collections of lee enfields (some guys collect them) as well as actual museums. So yeah use it!!
Hello, I have a rifle that looks exactly like this one. How do I know the age of the barrel
If the barrel is original there will be a date of production on the receiver, if the rifle was factory refurbished there will be a "FTR" date. However the barrel might have been replaced at some other time so there is really no 100% sure way (that I know of) to tell the date of your barrel.
That's a good grouping for rapid fire like that.
I shot Lee Enfields that had an awesome vernier sight on them but it wouldn't be used during a "mad minute".
I could certainly have done better but such practice would be prohibitively expensive. Thanks for the comment.
Beautiful rifle! I picked up an " Irish Contract" ( Serial No. says so) last Dec. at a gun show in Stony Plain, Ab. It is mint with bayonet and scabbard still packed in paper and grease. Haven't shot it yet. The poor guy selling it apparently was bombarded with " Refurbished, fake, restored, etc." He was having difficulty selling to an ignorant crowd. I know you probably paid low back when you purchased yours, but can you believe they"re asking $2000.00 on average at gun shows in Alberta, and one sold at Ward's Auction in Edmonton last year for $2500.00 plus fees. This guy in Stony Plain was happy to get $1100.00. It is basically like opening a time capsule, and bringing out a mint 1/55 No.4 Mk.2 rifle.I enjoyed watching your rapid fire mad minute attempt. looked like a ton of fun to me. Thanks 314299 Shooting Channel! P.S. I shall from now on refer to you as Gus.
Mine was purchased from International Firearms for $270, at the time it was a lot of money for a Lee Enfield, a decent issued No 4 was $90. Of course that was about 30 years ago.
$1100 for one of these in the grease is a real steal in the current market, congrats. If I came across that deal I would probably buy it.
As for being called"Gus", I've been called worse even though that'z not my name!
You pretty much payed triple the going rate of the average No.4 back then! Money well spent though, as I've mentioned above, the price they seem to go for these days allows you to make a nice profit, but I'm guessing you don't really want to part with yours. Thanks.
Have seen First World War black and white footage of similar in a trench. The soldier had the bayonet fixed. Load fire the bayonet kept the rifle muzzle as low as possible and also his head, but just above the dirt on the trench lip. Bayonet fixed ready if they got to the trench. Shot the 303 as a cadet full bore military ammo, loved it. Dusk and Dawn favourite time for attack so stand to on fire step.
Yes, might be handy to keep from shooting the dirt!
Man that thing is clean
It was new in the wrap when I bought it many years ago.
I live in a country that does not allow civilian ownership of things in that high of a caliber, and it is very pleasing to see that you take such good care of your gun and take so much joy in shooting it. The sound of the bolt being worked is music to my ears (benefit of being able to hear it on the video). One day I hope to visit the United States and try it for myself. Do you have recommendations for a firearms enthusiast to visit?
I'm glad you enjoyed the video, but I'm in Canada, not the USA. Perhaps some of the American viewers can make some recommendations for you.
Sorry! I realized after posting and looking at some of your other videos. Honestly, your accent should have tipped me off. I apologize. What do you think of American gun laws compared to Canadian laws?
There are a lot of gun laws in the USA, federal, state and municipal. Some places are freer than it is in Canada, some places are worse off. It's a complex thing to compare.
What country are you in?
I'm in Thailand. The laws allow 12 gauge, pistol calibers, and .22lr. I met a guy once and he showed me his AR. Imagine my disappointment when he racked the action and a little .22lr drops out. >.
Very nice video... Used to fire them as a young cadet & loved them then. Later went onto fire L42A1's & loved them too. (Head shot on a deer in Scotland from 400m was very enjoyable... as was breakfast). Then onto SLR's & loved those too although didn't feel quite as pure as a solid, dependable bolt-action legend as the Lee Enfield range of rifles.
Happy days & thanks for the MM demo :)
Thanks. I also have a 7.62mm Lee Enfield but mine is fitted with target sights and not a scope, an L42 would be cool to have but very uncommon and expensive if found for sale. When I was a reservist we used the FN-C1 rifle, pretty much the same as the SLR. While a decent rifle they were overly long and heavy.
Got to be my old gun.
This was purchased directly from Century International Arms Ltd in Montreal, so while it might look like one you may have owned I'm sure you never owed this particular one.
I don't know if I've posted on this video before but that is a beautiful rifle. It looks brand new out of the wrapping paper.
When I got it 20+ years ago the rifle was indeed "new", unissued and still in the long term "mummy wrap" and covered in grease.
314299 Shooting Channel Ive seen those on GunBroker. Still in the paper. Never been fired. Essentially a brand new Lee Enfield. Love it. Great videos.
One of the best bolt action ever made
Probably the best bolt action service rifle ever fielded by a major power.
GREAT looking rifle!
Thanks.
That rifle looked brand new. Who built it and when?
It's an "Irish Contract" Fazakerly arsenal manufactured rifle made in 1954. When I bought it back in the early 1990's it was new and in the grease and fabric wrapping.
@@314299 i hate you.
What a beautiful gun
I agree. It was purchased in the early 1990's and was in unissued condition still in the grease and waxed linen preservative wrapping.
Why not the middle finger technique? Just curious bc some ppl prefer different styles.
The middle finger is for making rude gestures, not pulling the trigger of a rifle.
Haha alright. Good one
Man ide probably be shot straight away trying to make sure that thing didn't get dirt on it... And another thing, can you imagine having a line of shooters like this guy aswell as some MGs in the mix. Bloody hell!
Lucky for me no one is shooting back!
I have a no4 and no 3. They both are awesome to shoot.
Do you reload for them?
Where did u buy it at? Looks brand new
It was bought about 20 years ago and the company is no longer in operation.
gun looked brand new.
It was new in the grease when I bought it.
Wow beautiful Enfield! I just bought my first one but is just a little more beat up then that one lol however it’s cool to thank about it being used in both world wars
the no4 was first issued in 1941, but the older SMLEs were used throughout both wars. I assume that you have one of those?
With that blonde furniture, this will be a No.4 MkII. They were built for foreign contracts in the 1950s but for various reasons never delivered. They sat racked in government storerooms in the U.K. in their factory "mummy" wrappings for decades before eventually being sold off.
Wow thats a beautiful Lee Enfield. I've never seen one in that condition. All of the ones I see are beat up and most of the finish is worn off.
It was new in the wrap when I bought it back in the 1990's.
His ears must have been ringing after that! Looks like he isn't wearing ear protection.
I have earplugs in. I don't shoot without hearing protection.
The color of the wood frame threw me off
It looked like a French Mas at first glance
Wyatt Guilliams the one I bought on 15 Oct 2019 looks the same. It is nicknamed "Blondie". Love it!
was this at connaught ranges?
No it was not.
SMLE runs through my family history. From the First World War to Korea and everything in between.
Certainly the Lee Enfield had a similar impact on may others as well.
That is deffanately minute of human. If fired at 100 meters?
100 yards.
Who redid that firearm cant be original.
It is original, not rebuilt. It was new in the grease and wrap when I bought it back in the early 1990's.
Cube210 Its probably a late-model N04 Enfield, made in Fazakerley for the Irish-contract. I believe that it has beechwood furniture?
Cube210 Of course they can be original. You can still buy brand new mummy-wrapped Lee-Enfields, if you have the money. They were produced up into the 1950’s and held by the British government until the early 1990’s when they were sold as surplus.
What kind of butt stock pad is that? I've been trying to find a similar one for my MKIV but haven't come across it yet.
I've had it a long time and there is no name on it. There are better pads than this one. The best for the money are the "Allen" brand slip on pads:
byallen.com/product/recoil-eraser-recoil-reducing-pad/
The medium size fits Lee Enfield rifles well.
Awesome! Thanks for the information!
Privi Partizan is really good as they designed it to replicate as closely as possible the original MK 7 cordite rounds velocity and trajectory. Plus it is a relatively good purchase price.
That Lee is beautiful, I want one!
It was brand new in the grease when I got it, which explains the condition.
Wrong finger for a mad minute, hand should never leave the bolt.
Let's see your video. Wait, you dont have content, what a surprise....
Stunning Rifle.I had one I sold it .
Ahh, the ones that get away. Most of us have one or two we should have kept.
The stripper clips will self discharge when the bolt is but in action
Yes indeed they will. However I was shooting a mint condition rifle and did not want to scratch the top and so pulled the chargers out manually. I probably should have used a more beat up Lee Enfield for this.
I'd fuckin sell my soul for this rifle.. unfortunately it is not available in my country.
Laszlo David why
ThTs how you do it
GOOD GROUPING ...❤😮
It's a pretty huge group but if some ammo company would sponsor me with free ammo I'm sure I could improve!
Awesome rifle. Wish they would have made some for us lefties
What kind of Lee Enfield is that?
It's a No. 4 Mk2.
0:36 bug left the chat
is he not using ear pro?
Ear plugs.
Why does it look like it just came off the factory floor?
That's because when I bought it over twenty five years ago new and unissued, still in the waxed cloth wrapping and covered in grease.
@@314299 ah that makes sense
Easy rifle and too much useful
i definitely could not do it that fast lol
No. 4?
Yes, A No. 4 MK2 to be specific.
Awesome condition
It was new condition when I bought it close to 20 years ago.
Why did you only load 5 rounds at a time?
I wasn't sure if I'd need anymore than that before the time ran out.
Imagine adding 2 clips then only having time to fire 3 you could have got 2 more off if you didnt jam 5 more down its throat haha
The mag holds 10 rounds. So to get 20 shots away you would need to add 2 more stripper clips of 5 rounds very quickly.
Crack on!
I want buy lee enfiend
Thats my accuracy in Battlefield 1
Is that good or bad/
@@314299 its good if the enemy falls into my line of fire
Good shooting
Thanks. There is plenty of room for improvement - I just need an ammo sponsor.
ear plugs bro your not in war
I have earplugs in. I dont shoot without hearing protection. But thanks for your concern.....
That's actually not a bad group for the speee
If some kind ammo company would just sponsor me I'm sure I could get better!

Need him to swear lots to keep Up with Keene after losing the head.
You are not the first person to say I look a bit similar to Roy Keane. My ancestors are all Irish, perhaps I'm related to him somehow.
i love my No1 mk3 ammo is a bitch though so is finding a replacement stock. I'll probably make one, but by far better than my mauser. yes i cringe when i say that.
Butt stocks are plentiful but fore ends are certainly hard to get and expensive for the No1 rifles.
314299 Shooting Channel ya the fore end is busted lol soon as i fix it though I'm sure I'll find them everywhere.
بسم الله عليها ما اروعها
Are you amazed at the speed or in my poor accuracy?
Lee Enfield is the best gun
They were pretty decent rifles for military purposes.

You prefer the Mosin Nagant over the Lee Enfield do you? I'm going to guess that you do not own either and have probably not fired both. I have many years experience with both and enjoy shooting them. Discussions about which obsolete rifle is "best" are rather pointless.

Yes it is one of the "Irish contract" rifles.
