    Remember. You are doing amazing. ❤ Just keep being you. I always love to see your videos. This topic made me think of a friend who experienced something with money and his girlfriend's family. He felt like he was buying her instead of being welcomed in the family. Sadly they didn't get married. And broke up their relationship. But this was years ago. And I took your advice. I'm trying to date. For the first time I used a dating app. Really scared. But I need to build more confidence. There's still that little voice in my head that is scared to feel heartbreak again. Sorry for the long text. Hope this thanks will help you with your channel. Seeing you get so emotional means that you love what you are doing. means your video has heart. ❤ Because it is awesome, just like you.

    Sawasdee khrap Palm 🙏 As native Thai do you think Thailand will keep most of its culture in the future? It’s the culture that attracts many people like me who do not like western culture, it’s the complete contrast and good Thai values that people really like.

      That’s a great question Jason, and I completely understand where you’re coming from. Thailand has such a rich culture, I believe many core aspects of Thai culture like respect, family values, and hospitality will stay strong. These are traditions that people here hold close to their hearts.

    There is a book called “ISLAND” by Aldous Huxley. It’s fiction, but it is a masterpiece, and it explores how the West and the East can come together and form a new culture. They keep some things and throw away other parts of their cultures. Very interesting book. 📚 if you can find a translation, I highly recommend it :)

    Regarding respect, I was immediately impressed by the tradition of wai (ไหว้), used when greeting another or to show appreciation. I readily began using it and find the custom unique and valuable. Coming from America, where lifestyles are a constant blur of activities and greetings of any nature are increasingly rare, the Thai wai felt like restoration of something important for healthy interactions. And the custom is a regular reminder that others are important and to be respected. It's one of the many reasons I prefer to be in Thailand.🙏🙏

    Another great video palm. Thai people have told me about this not cuttitng the hair on Wednesdays before i think its called put ham tdat. Its superstition but thanks for telling us the history behind this practice. I never knew the reason 😅Also for the elderly or whoever here in u.s we have a saying "for those who want respect have to give respect". So i kinda agree we cant just give respect blindly and have to endure insults or embarrassment. Thankyou for anothe interesting video. ❤

    I love the sound effects. They are always timely & funny. Also, your English keeps getting a better with each video. Very good work.
    As for respect, I go with 'quid pro quo.' Something for something. Respect is earned. If it is not given, it does not have to be returned. Life is short. Never kiss anybody's a**. If you can look in the mirror and know that you are a good person and you like yourself, it doesn't matter one little bit if anyone else does on that day. Good people find other good people over time. It is one thing to be nice & caring to everyone as a courtesy, but it is secondary to being nice, caring & forgiving of yourself. I take it too far and never give a rip about if another soul likes me. But still, I am nice to people (as long as they are nice to me) and let the chips fall where they may.
    The 'no haircuts on Wednesday' thing is a little weird. I still have to try to remember to take off my shoes when entering certain places. 😉

    Be careful with adopting western values. Thai values are more humane than western values. Respect elders, it’s the correct thing to do; if they don’t respect you, let it be their problem. You have done your part. Don’t ditch the dowry custom. Paying dowry is not a sale of the bride but it makes the man value his wife more and strengthens family bonds.

    What about "never buy shoes for your girlfriend"? Seems like another outdated superstition. Also, what is your opinion on eating beef? This one seems more serious but maybe Thai attitudes are changing.

    • @ThaiThoughts
      @ThaiThoughts  2 місяці тому +2

      "Never buy shoes for your girlfriend" is definitely one of those fun, outdated superstitions! 👟
      As for eating beef, it’s a bit more complex. For some, it’s tied to religion or family traditions. Many mixed Thai-Chinese families, for example, avoid eating beef out of respect for Guan Yin, the goddess of mercy.

      @@ThaiThoughts I like and respect how Thai society seems mostly flexible and tolerant of different ideas and beliefs, leaving personal choices up to each individual... relative to many (most) countries in the world.
      BTW I remembered another Thai superstition I have come across: choosing/avoiding colors (for like houses and cars?) based on the day (of the week) a person was born.
